Cadmus was stunned by Blair's sudden not-confession.
It's like he'd been slammed into a cold hard wall before falling into a bed of cotton. If he's still as foolish as he was when he was younger, he might've arrogantly believed he could make any girl fall for him. But as the years went by, he'd figured that only she was untouchable, too witty yet too pure for romance, and also too smart to fall for him, a bumbling idiot.
"I guess you've picked that up at the very end," Blair managed to laugh while Cadmus remained frozen still. "I didn't want it to bother you. But now, I suppose it doesn't matter."
"Why won't it matter?!" The words tore out from his throat before he could stop them, alarm evident in his tone.
He'd never wanted to see Blair this miserable. It's not like Blair to be so pessimistic.
He inhaled sharply. "Why're you acting like this? You're not gonna vanish again, are you?"
