MASKS TO UNVEIL! CHAPTER 21: Worried
Naxzi glanced back when he saw that they had arrived at the place where the 'centipedes' led them into. The men in the other wagon jumped out and hurriedly unsheathed their swords. The sounds of the swords hit Sencha's ears and she frowned. They pointed their swords at the carriage of Naxzi, although careful as Sanc was blocking their way.
Sencha initially thought that Naxzi was merely hated by his own parents and of course others who wanted to covet the emperor's position. But she didn't know that it was this serious. She cast a glimpse to Naxzi, who expressionlessly turned his head sideward and looked at the men through the narrow gap of the curtains.
Sanc bowed at him and said,
"Your Highness, we're surrounded."
That's right. The 'centipedes' led them into the forest where it was known where people died at the nearby cliff. The men who surrounded them are planning to push them off the cliff, making it a real accident that they had died in a tragic way. Naxzi smirked and ordered,
"Help me out."
"Husband?"
Sencha worriedly asked him when she heard that. He turned to her and asked, "What is it?"
"Why are you going out?"
"... Hm? Because I have to talk to them."
"Talk? Husband, they carry swords, thus you shouldn't get out and let Sanc deal with them."
Naxzi closed the window as the black men started to slowly approach them. Outside, Naxzi's people also prepared themselves and took out their swords quickly.
Naxzi looked at her and answered, "I can't just kill them without gaining information."
"I am certain that you know who sent those people though. What's the purpose of asking them when their intention is to kill us?"
She innocently asked that he giggled. Sanc, who was a bit bothered, notified the two.
"We're going to attack now, Your Highnesses!"
Without prompting a response from Naxzi, Sanc struck an attack and dodged his enemy. He looked up and defended himself. After a while, he opened his palm and said, "Just die!"
Sanc isn't an ordinary shadow guard. He was supposed to be a shadow guard. That was his original work, but his Master, the 'useless' Naxzi, told him that he should be an ordinary guard. Sanc's identity was only a skilled fighter but he was actually a mage from the Magic Tower. He was the former owner of that tower but retired due to unfair treatment. As a mage, he has immense power.
The men in black stepped back when they saw that Sanc has the black power that no one has. They looked at each other and attacked altogether.
"Are we going to let them die just like that?" Naxzi curiously asked Sencha.
"Hm, I overheard my father once while he was in his office. The best way to investigate something is when the enemy least expected it."
"What do you mean, wife?"
Sencha smiled then winked at him which made him a bit stunned,
"Will you allow me to go out?"
"Go out? You? Wife, what are you trying to do?" He was concerned that she might get hurt, especially when she still has problems controlling her strong powers.
"Wife, I know that you're brave and everything but don't go out just for my sake. You restricted me from going out and now you're going to go out?"
Sencha nodded and said, "Yes, please?"
"But… wife, I can't." He shook his head firmly. "You must not step out."
"I will."
".. Wife, why must you be stubborn?" he sighed helplessly and looked at her as if begging her not to go out.
The sounds of swords clashing and men falling down, the trees shaking and the powers that break everything penetrated her ears. Without Sanc's knowing, a group of men had surrounded the wagon where the two were talking.
Sencha heard the swords that were near them and before she could move anything, Naxzi covered her mouth with his and pulled her onto the wall. He motioned that she stay quiet which she agreed to. He took a dagger from his sleeve and readied himself.
The sword pointed at the window and stabbed it. Naxzi then hit the sword with his dagger and the sword went out. Sencha looked at how skilled he was and was stunned. Wasn't he only useless? Why is he strong like that and even calm in a situation like this?
Naxzi continuously blocked the enemy's attack and when they momentarily stopped, Naxzi took that opporrunity to strangle them to death with black power. His power is the same as Sanc's so no one will suspect anything, besides Sencha couldn't see it. He was safe. The man surrounding them fell at one scoop and Sencha stared at him with her widened eyes.
Sanc, who had been fighting with other three shadow guards, had killed all the men and bowed at Naxzi.
"Forgive me, Your Highness. It was my lack of competence that I didn't guard you well."
Naxzi calmly dusted his sleeve off and nonchalantly replied, "My wife and I are fine. Did you finish them all?"
"Yes, Your Highness. This is the crest we saw hanging to one of the men's waist."
Naxzi took the crest that Sanc handed to him then turned to Sencha, who was still surprised.
"Wife, did you regret loving your husband that fast?" He worriedly and carefully asked as he touched the crest.
She regained senses afterwards and asked him. ".. H-husband, what kind of strength did you possess? You're so strong!!"
Unlike what he was expecting, she would be terrified and scared at him, she was even more impressed and crawled towards him with anticipation. He unwillingly leaned back until he was pinned under her and he roughly gulped.
"W-wife, what are you trying to do?"
She leaned closer then mischievously smiled at him. He was surprised and blinked. It seemed as if he did something wrong that she was smiling suspiciously at him.
"W-wife, if I did something wrong, please tell me."
Suddenly, her hand grabbed one of his legs and he gasped, looking at her in disbelief. Just what is she trying to do near him?! It's making him unable to say anything!
She leaned closer and inched the gap of their faces. When he saw that her lips were near his, he closed his eyes tightly as if a bunny was trapped under a lioness.
However,
"You're not paralyzed husband, right?"
