Chereads / EndTime Apocalypse System / Chapter 7 - Time out!

Chapter 7 - Time out!

His body spasmed with energy soon as the metal door slid open. Revealing to them the chaos that had befallen the modern world.

Humans, milled about, their skins losing the vibrancy they once had. Several cancerous black like growths underneath their skin while the skin itself now had chaffed outlooks.

Like wood that had turned to charcoal and then dried out. If one was not careful, the way the skins of these people looked like, their skin could just easily peel off.

However, this was not the time for observation.

Before his eyes, Abbey only gasp out as the screen in front of him changed its outlook.

No more were the words asking for permission on what to do. The screen now displayed a present stats of his capabilities.

Not like there was much.

But since he lost control of his own body, he could not help but watch it.

[Objective: Go to the grocery stall:]

_________

He sighed out as he realized how very tactful and empty this was.

It did not contain much information. Yet it had his real time data on it. Like how it was able to identify that Ben was his best friend. And now, how it was able to identify that they had an objective.

That was good, he reasoned. He would not have to be fighting aimlessly now. He had faith that even though he was out of control off his body, the system in auto pilot mode could very well align with his desired direction. After all, the system was able to identify he was going to the grocery department.

Abbey blinked. Right before his eyes, the zombies charged.

His body shivered with fear, his legs decidedly rooting into the ground. However, instead of freezing up, seeing so many zombies charge at him, his body received an instant boost of energy.

He sprang forward, one foot stomping on the ground while his iron rod was gripped tightly with the right hand. His bag in his back as he sailed into the air, gracefully.

"Ahhh… where are you going?" The girl roared out.

His jump had taken him out of the danger spot. He was sufficiently behind the little crowd of zombies now. However that meant that the new target for the zombies was the girl.

"Aaahhhhhhh!" Rose screamed out instantly, gripping her hands over her mouth almost immediately. As if she just realize she as not to make noise. Unfortunately, it was too late, as the jaw napping beings turned their rabid attention towards her, completely.

Abbey could not help but facepalm at this. Was she not supposed to shut her mouth?

After all, was she not the one who had spoken o him about how zombies were attracted to sound?

In a way,as an observer in his own body, being free of her was relieveing to him. But then, that did not last long enough.

She was his slave. One who had pledged her safety to his hand. He had to make sure that she was safe or else, what was the good of a master without a slave to attend to him?

More so, the zombies were already gathering. The ones who had gathered in front of the shop were not much. And his landing had attracted the few lingering ones.

As if reacting to his state of mind, Abbey's body swerved around. The iron rod swung around, mercilessly slamming into flesh and batting them away.

Because it was simply an iron rod, one would not expect it to have that explosive power. That is, compared to an actual bat. But this one did.

It was a result of his autopilot date. Everything about him was heightened.

Even his fear.

"Gah!" Abbey found himself groaning.

He ducked, his limbs exploding in propelling force as he slammed his head and shoulders into the zombies ahead of him.

As if hit by canon ball, they fell to the ground. However this presented them to an opportunity to grab at his feet.

"Watch out!" The girl shouted, pointing down as one head reached to bite around his ankle.

In his heightened state, he leapt up, scaling the remaining distance until he was back in front of the shop. And this time, the girl was behind him.

"Y-you came back for me." The girl muttered breathlessly.

At this, he did not reply. In fact, he could not reply. No matter how he tried, his mouth would just not move. His present state of being was on survival so things which were not necessary like talking had been eliminated.

He scruntinzed the entire area, searching for a way out. More zombies had gatherd. And the ones who were on the ground were slowly recovering.

Luckily for him, they moved slowly. Which was a good thing.

But before he could sigh in relief, his luck ran out.

"Rawgggh!"

Several hurried feet exploded on the ground, racing towards them at the sight of this. These ones were fast.

"They are running fast." Rose shouted out.

'You do not have to tell me!' Abbey rolled his eyes.

Luckily, that was among the few things in his body he could still control.

He gasped out, dodging as a zombie lurched for him. Promptly, his body moved, gripping her by the hand. Before she could react, he had pulled her after him, the entire horde in the floor now raging to them.

zombies charged from adjacent shops, glass door shattering as they chased after the sound of the commotion. The ones in the free way left their mulling and began to chase after him.

It was strange to note that after the arrival of the first runners, the rest of the other zombies were even faster than before. Even if they were simply swaying slowly around, as soon as the running crowd passed by them, these ones would charge out in similar style.

"Almost there…" the girl cited as she was dragged to the escalator.

It still worked. However the zombies coming from it began to charge, resulting in most of them falling and rolling over. The ones who tried to follow him as well from the tech floor also found themselves falling and rolling over.

Abbey's feet leapt off the ground, as it landed on the side bars of the escalator. Startled by his sudden jump, the girl gasped out.

Just then, he returned to pull her with the other hand, his free hand now batting away the zombies that tried to charge at him.

As for the ones on the escalator, she had to fight her own way through as several of them reached for her feet.

She kicked, stomping, panicking but fighting until they got to the ground floor.

Mentally, Abbey began to panick now.

The screen status in front of him as telling him some other information.

[Time remaining: 0:56 seconds until body shuts down]

The grocery shop was still roughly 200 meters far from them.

His heart sank.
