Chapter 12 - Adventurers Guild

Waking up, Kai got ready and headed for the lobby. Arriving at the lobby, he noticed the attendant was there. He was looking down, rereading something.

'Maybe that's just how he is,' Kai reasoned.

"Breakfast is down the hall." The attendant pointed to the hall across from Kai.

Nodding his head, Kai made his way there. Walking through the wooden hall, Kai was greeted by a big open room. Nothing inside the room stood out besides the tables lined at the back wall.

Looking at the tables full of food, Kai was pleased he had chosen this place.

Among the many options, the sun berries were there, and even a black goo dish. Despite being curious, Kai didn't think it would taste any good.

Kai grabbed a plate from the first table with food and picked many weird berries and plants. Unfortunately, they didn't have any Green King Caterpillar on the menu.

"Ahh."

After finishing his full, he headed out, but not before putting his cloak on.

Walking through the venues, Kai found a plain white shirt. It cost him 2 copper coins, which seemed a little much to Kai, considering a place to sleep and meal was 5 copper coins.

Though he was still new to buying things and didn't know the price of anything. 'That old lady knew I was new to the city, so she put up her prices, ' Kai thought.

Finding nothing useful, he headed back to the inn. He quickly put on his leather armor and a new shirt before leaving for the adventurer guild.

Kai didn't want to wear his cloak in case someone was able to recognize it. It would only bring his trouble; also, with how he looks now, Kai can pass as a starter adventurer.

Kai would be in the clear as long as no one there bothers to check his level. Even if they knew he was a tier 1, it shouldn't cause any problems. At least the adventurer guild would gain a tier 1. Who would say no to that?

'I bet there are tons of people around my age who are tier 1 too, so I don't think I'll be the odd one there.' Kai thought.

The adventurers guild was close to where Kai was staying, so he didn't have to go far.

Turning on the last corner, there it was, the adventurers guild!

The guild itself was massive, made of many different kinds of wood, with a stone floor. The foundation was dark wood, while the walls and ceiling were a lighter shade.

Above the entrance was an emblem; the emblem was golden, with two people with their backs to each other. The one on the left held a bow loaded with an arrow. While the one on the right held a sword.

The Adventurers Emblem!

'Seems a little nice for a city like this.' Kai thought, looking at the golden emblem.

Walking up the steps into the guild, Kai saw many different kinds of people spread across the great open room. Some had heavy steel armor, carrying long swords, while others had nice formal clothes, talking to a receptionist.

All kinds of ages were gathered in one spot; either they were looking for work, an adventure, or help.

'The world outside truly is so much more than I imagined.'

Kai got into a line, waiting his turn. There were four people in front of him. While waiting, Kai watched his surroundings, gathering as much information as possible.

'Oh, there's even a second floor.'

The second floor had far fewer people; everyone on that floor gave Kai a weird feeling.

There was a single door that Kai could see. The door read, 'Guild Master.'

'If they're talking to the guild master, then they are either some big shot or a rich merchant. Whatever it is, it's not something the receptionist down here could help with.' Kai was only observing, though he was pretty sure no one ordinary could go up there.

"Next"

Kai was brought out of his thoughts by the receptionist. He was too busy observing; Kai didn't notice the people in front of him go.

The receptionist had short black hair, green eyes, and a pale complexation. What caught Kai's attention the most was his long pointy ears. The elf looked to be in his early twenties.

"I'd like to sign up as an adventurer and heard about a beginner course." Kai said to the receptionist.

The receptionist nodded, "To sign up, you need to pay a fee of 10 copper. Once signed up, you will start as a beginner adventurer, E class. The beginner course is free for anyone who has signed up. It will take place tonight at 6:00."

Kai took out 10 copper and handed it to the elf, "Ah, how will I know when it's 6?"

Kai knew about clocks, yet the inn he was staying in didn't have one, or at least he didn't see any.

The receptionist only raised an eyebrow at Kai's question, "Don't you have the system accessory?"

"The what?"

Sighing, the receptionist instantly understood, "The system accessory is an item that many talented production classes worked on together. Although not many know how it works, the system accessory connects you with other people that have the upgrade. With it, you can talk to people across long distances, and you can buy or sell goods with the auction feature. Or even see the time of day."

Hearing the description, the system accessory sounded too good to be true. But the young elf wasn't done, "Even the system itself acknowledges it and works with it, so there's no way anyone could tamper with it, making it 100% safe."

Even the system itself is ok with it; what is there to wait for? It could only help. This would also help him find better armor and weapons when the time comes.

"How can I get this system accessory?" Kai asked.

The receptionist smiled, "We sell it of course. However, its price might be high for some. It will cost you 5 silver coins."

Hearing the price was high, Kai didn't think he could afford it, yet it was only 5 silver. Kai had more than enough for it. 'It seems like silver is worth far more than I thought.'

Handing over the 5 silver, the receptionist was slightly shocked; he didn't think a young teen like Kai would be able to afford it. After all, Kai didn't have any fancy or expensive armor. He only had the most basic, cheap armor on the market.

The receptionist grabbed a hand size clear crystal ball, from behind the desk.

"Alright, put your hand on this crystal ball for me."

Nodding, Kai put his hand on the crystal ball and asked, "What's this for"

"The crystal ball takes a fingerprint, and a sample of your mana, this way the adventurer card is only yours and proves your identity." The receptionist replied.

Puzzled, Kai asked again, "I don't have mana. Will it still work?"

Hearing the young teens' question, the receptionist came to a conclusion. 'He must have been on his own for a long time. He wasn't taught anything, sigh. At least the beginning course will help him.'

"Every being has mana; the system only says it's 'Locked' because you don't have access to it. Some talented people can unlock their mana without the system's help. Alright, and what is your name?"

"Kai."

Nodding, the receptions used a big gray machine that was connected to the crystal ball. After only a few seconds, he was done.

"And here you go. I look forward to seeing you tonight."

Handing over two items for Kai. The first was a small green badge; the badge had a big letter E, along with the adventurer emblem. The other item was a small white chip with black lines, with the words 'System Accessory' printed in the middle.

Looking at the receptionist, the confusion in his eyes must have been evident because the receptionist explained, "This is your guild card. It proves you are a member of the adventurer guild; you will need it in order to be allowed to go into dungeons in other cities. While this is the system accessory, all you have to do is open your 'Status,' and an option to apply the accessory will appear."

Nodding, Kai thanked the receptionist before heading back to the inn. He didn't stop for anything, nor did he use the system accessory. He wanted to wait till he got back first.

Closing the door, Kai sat on his bed.

Smiling, he opened his system and applied the system accessory.

~Swoosh~

A white miss covered the accessory before dispersing, taking the accessory with it.

"{Status}!"

"Haha." Kai couldn't contain how happy he was, so he laughed.

With his new class bonus, his strength and resistance increased more than any other stat. Even if Kai didn't have a class, the amount of attribute points he gets per level would easily make up for it. However, they wouldn't give Kai new skills.

Clicking on {Shop}, a list of different items Kai had never heard of popped up. The list went alphabetical, but if you didn't feel like searching for a specific item, you could use the search bar and type it in.

Kai wanted to test something; searching up 'Spider Queen Cloak,' many items popped up, yet none of them were the same that Kai obtained. Although they were similar, the cloaks that popped up were called 'Spider King Cloak' or just 'Spider Cloak.' There wasn't a single 'Spider Queen Cloak' that Kai could find.

However, he did find something interesting; some items had requirements to be met before being able to use them.

For example, the 'Spider King Cloak' had a level requirement of 'Tier 2: Level 1.'

"This must be there to prevent people from using something too strong and dying. Or maybe the system doesn't want people to cheat with items that far exceed what level they are." Kai reasoned.

Time passed fast, and with the new feature, Kai could see it was 4:15 PM; he still had a while to go till the beginner's course.

Getting out of bed, Kai headed to the washroom, "I guess I'll take a quick bath before then."
