Chereads / The Immortal Duan Cai / Chapter 59 - Chapter 58

Chapter 59 - Chapter 58

A long time ago...

"Duan Cai!" Letya shouted with joy while waving her hand in the air for Duan Cai's attention as she ran across the open field towards him. Her long violet hair blowing in the wind as she ran, her bright green eyes gazing at him, it was all a beautiful sight that could capture the heart of any man who saw her. Duan Cai was, however, unmoved in the slightest. His cold emotionless eyes glanced at the source of his named being shouted for only a moment before returning playing his violin in the tall grass. His golden horns and draconic eyes held a powerful yet beautiful picture all on his own as his music flooded the open field with grace and beauty.

It had not taken long in the eyes of Duan Cai and Saigai for her to reach the age of an adult for a mortal. For them it was nothing but a blink of an eye since their lives were not shortened like a mortal. She had went from a child full of life to an adult that somehow managed to keep that same state of life to her that most people would forget about themselves as they grew. It was something that intrigued Duan Cai about her. He was not usually one to take an interest in mortals but he had to admit that Saigai's mortal he raised did have her ways to surprise him.

Letya smiled brightly as she rushed over and stopped in her tracks once she was a few feet from Duan Cai as he played. She was clearly the type of girl who displayed her emotions all over her face. He could see the clear image of wonder on her face as she stared him down as he played causing his brow to twitch slightly.

"Do you need something, Letya?" Duan Cai spoke out to her while halting his music in its tracks.

"Nope!" She giggled.

"Are you not with Saigai today?" He asked her.

"He's working right now and said he'd find me in a few minutes." Letya's smile never left her face as though it was something permanent to her. In fact in the years she had grew up under their care he had never once seen this girl cry as though she did not know what it meant to be sad.

"Are you certain you're mortal? Do you not ever miss that village?" Duan Cai asked to sate his own curiosity about this girl.

"Of course! That's such a silly question!" She giggled to herself finding his question rather cute.

"You do not act like a mortal and express that." He stated out bluntly.

"Just because I miss where I was born does not mean I want to be there. You two are my home and my family.." She paused for a moment. "My only wish is that Saigai can find true happiness one day.. Oh! And! Of course and that one day you'll be able to experience what it is to feel happy as well."

Duan Cai paused for a moment at her words before simply stating out, "Two."

"Huh?" Letya was confused at what he meant.

"That's two things, Letya." He responded. At that time the only thing that ran about his mind was the fact that the girl had miscounted her wishes.

"Nope! Not if I wish for it in the same wish! It's all in how you ask the genie!" She winked at him playfully. Her green eyes sparkled with fascination at her own idea on how she could have a single wish used for both of the most important people in her life to become happy.

"It's all in how you ask the genie?" Duan Cai pondered those words in his mind as he repeated them. He was not sure what she meant by them but he found them interesting.

"Letya!" A loud voice rang out from behind them causing them both to turn. Not far from them in the treeline stood Saigai who had come to fetch the girl.

"Saigai!" She shouted with pure joy in both her voice and displayed on her face.

She threw herself to her feet and ran across the field into his arms. Saigai's face lit up the moment she landed into his embrace. His hold on her was firm, warm, and made her feel completely at home. It was like she was being secured in the safest place the world had to offer her. She was not entirely wrong either because in Saigai's heart if she was ever at risk he'd give his own life to secure her life before his own. Letya could hear his heart beating fast in his chest as he held her.

"You were with him again today?" Saigai asked. She got could see his face but his eyes were pinned on Duan Cai's figure in the field playing the violin. After a moment Duan Cai's gaze slowly lifted and landed on Saigai causing Saigai's glare to become slightly colder. He did not feel in the least comfortable with Letya being alone with him. She wasn't just family to Saigai; she was his entire world.

"Of course! You're both important to me. As long as I have you, Saigai, I don't need anything else in this world. I just wanna be happy with you for the rest of my life." She smiled brightly up at Saigai causing him to look down into her bright green eyes. Those eyes were like emeralds and to a dragon it only made him desire her more. She already had his heart and yet those eyes wanted to pull him in deeper.

"Yea, and you," He leaned his head down and pulled her in tighter. His voice became warm against the side of her neck as his whisper entered her ear. "ARE my heart, Letya."

Her face flushed red slightly as she wrapped her arms around his neck to return the embrace. The two of them stood there for a while in each others arms. Saigai's head slightly raising higher so that he could let himself get lost in the comforting gaze of those emerald eyes of hers. It only lasted a moment where he could get lost in them because her head slightly turned, a soft and gentle kiss landing against his lips. Saigai did not lose pace from the shock, instead his body moved on it's own and returned her kiss.

"I love you." Saigai huffed out the words the moment he pulled away to gaze at her beautiful blushing face before losing himself to his own feelings and kissing her more deeply. In his eyes she could see the heavy tenderness and love that he held for her in his heart when he had said those three words that warmed her chest to the brim. He could feel her arms tighten around his neck as his own hand slid up into her hair not wanting the moment to end too soon. The both of them had fallen into the trap of their own hearts that skipped beats among their chests in desire to belong to each other.
