Chereads / The Immortal Duan Cai / Chapter 29 - Chapter 28

Chapter 29 - Chapter 28

Duan Cai slowly opened his eyes to the light shining through his bedroom window. His body felt heavy from the night he had to endure for the sake of the bond he formed the night before. Without even turning his head he could hear the slight sound of Leon taking in his cigarette across the room by the door. It was a familiar sound that he had gotten use to over the months of them being at the Inferno Nexus mansion together.

"Should I ask what the hell happened last night? No.. wait.. I doubt I should cause you wouldn't explain it if I tried now would you, Duan Cai?" Leon grit his teeth as he tried to bite back the rage that was burning inside of him for being left out of something again.

"Good morning, mother Leon~" Duan Cai smiled brightly at Leon to shake off his questions.

"Duan Cai!" Leon punched the wall so hard that he put a hole in it.

Leon felt fed up with the fact that Duan Cai always left him out when something important was going to happen. Both Leon and Lester had been worried beyond their limitation last night when they found Duan Cai in pain that was so heavy to bear that he had fallen unconscious. If Leon had been aware of the fact that Vail was waiting for he perfect time to strike it would have surely caused him to explode even worse then it was at the moment. Leon had taken shifts all night with Lester in order to watch over his boss to ensure that nothing happened to him. If they had left him for a second they feared many possibilities to what could have happened during Duan Cai's weakened state.

"You need to learn to take things more seriously.. This time we were lucky to find you, but if the wrong person was around to take advantage of such an opportunity you could have died last night. It's like you refuse to accept the fact that shit could seriously happen to you."

"Stop! Just stop it." Duan Cai raised his hand up to stop Leon from talking.

Duan Cai knew that Leon was trying to be serious with him, but he could not find a part of himself that felt worried about falling unconscious last night. As a god he had been through making soul connections in his past and knew what was going to happen. That was the whole reason he had locked himself in his room and tried to keep others from being aware of the fact that he was going to spend the night in pain and weakened to such an extent. Aside from the ninja, Vail, he could not think of anyone in his territory that was a risk to his own life and he didn't worry about Vail that much in his mind. It was true that if the others knew they would panic at the thought, but something about the ninja caused him to pay zero attention to it unless he decided to show himself at random.

Slowly he paced himself towards Leon until he was standing face to face. His hand slammed against the wall beside Leon as he leaned in slightly. Rage was obvious on Leon's face as Duan Cai whispered to Leon. It was clear to even Duan Cai how enraged with him Leon was just by the glimpse of his balled up fist shaking at Leon's side.

"La Mia Stella, if you're that worried about me don't be. It's unnecessary, I can take care of myself just fine." He whispered in Leon's ear.

Leaning back away from Leon he slowly turned to glance around his room. The door to his room had been broken during last night when Lester and Leon broke into the room in a rush to get to him so the door was no longer attached to the frame. The only thing in Duan Cai's mind at the moment was over how much damage was done to his room. A headache was starting to find its way to him as he thought of the damages and wondered how long it would take to have someone fix the things for him. It was not like he understood how to fix any of it himself. Even the mortal body he had taken over was limited to no memories past high school days for mortals and if he combined it with the memories he gained last night from Bullet there was still nothing useful to him towards fixing such things as a broken door or holes in walls.

My mortal knowledge still feels very limited.. at this point maybe I should look into other ways to quickly gain more information about this world.. Duan Cai thought to himself as he tried to decipher ways and places he could learn more. There was much he could learn from his studies in the many books he had around the mansion, but there was still a difference between reading to comprehend something and actually experiencing things in the outside more on his own.

"Well, I guess I'll be heading out for today." Duan Cai thought out loud as he slowly walked out of his room with Leon following behind him.

"Should I bother to ask what you're planning, boss?" Leon asked him while returning to how he normally referred to him. Duan Cai wondered if the man had calmed down now or was simply trying to pretend to be calm. Whether he was calm or not at this point was nothing important to Duan Cai so he wasn't going to ask him to know the answer. The only thing that mattered to him was that Leon was no longer in a hurry to yell at him over his actions.

"Simple.. I'm heading out to The Sunny Wolf~" Duan Cai whistled while walking through his mansion.

The Sunny Wolf was one of the properties that Duan Cai had taken ownership over in the city. It was very popular bar among the rich folk due to its calm nature and expensive drinks. Many businesses often used The Sunny Wolf for company meetings because they even offered private rooms to drink without outsiders disturbing as long as you were able to pay for the room. Private rooms were not cheap, however, so those who were able to gain use of them were often seen as elites among society. Nobody ever discussed who owned the bar, but many would often wonder what man stood behind it. It was a secret that very few were aware of, but the ownership had once been a high standing member of the Tian Sect.

To this day even Leon, Duan Cai's right hand man, had no clue how Duan Cai managed to obtain ownership of The Sunny Wolf, but things always felt like they just fell into the boss's lap so he learnt to stop questioning things unless he felt they were important enough to ask. The man who currently ran The Sunny Wolf for Duan Cai was known as Felix. Anyone who came to the bar would see him as a very kind hearted man who would smile and happily serve the customers. He had an aura of someone who could brighten up the bar easily. Few people were aware of the fact that behind that kind smile of Felix's at the bar, however, he was a high ranking Cultivator who simply suppresses his aura til he's ready to strike. Felix was the sort to not get involved in fights unless he had to, but once he did it was like provoking a sleeping cobra.
