Mark was still laughing, his mind full of dirty thoughts, while Hye-jin was intently watching the Kim family's huge skyscraper when she saw something really alarming. "Mark... The handsome one is coming this way."
As if by magic, Mark stopped laughing, and silence settled between them.
It was a little bizarre that the person they had just been talking about suddenly appeared. Hye-jin briefly surveyed her surroundings to see if there was any sign of eavesdropping... It didn't hurt to check.
Mark was eager for something new. "Ask for his number!"
Hye-jin laughed at the comment. Did he want the number for himself or for her? "Can't you get that even if I don't ask?"
Mark had a knack for the impossible. If there was an internet signal, there was nothing he couldn't find. Really efficient.
She met him during a small meeting to take down an online game. It wasn't too exciting; she was targeting an MMORPG junkie, and Mark was the hacker god of legendary weapons.
The execution was very simple. She arranged a meeting with her target to sell a weapon with greater rarity in the game. As a gift, she gave him a bullet in the middle of the forehead. It was an easy job and very well-paid.
Since then, Hye-jin and Mark had kept in touch, and he became a key part of her business.
"It's not polite to call others without permission!"
"As if you care about that..."
Hye-jin briefly glanced at her reflection in the small mirror next to the ice cream freezer and adjusted her wig. In a matter of seconds, Jun-seo was staring at her menu.
"Hello, pretty boy, would you like some ice cream?"
The secretary smiled kindly. "I want a large lemon and a small chocolate."
"Of course, just wait a second."
She could hear Mark sighing in her ear. How could she put up with this all day? "His voice is really beautiful."
Hye-jin just rolled her eyes and returned to her gentle ice cream saleswoman smile. She picked up the two jars and handed them to Jun-seo. "Here's your ice cream: large lemon and small chocolate. It's 5 dollars."
He handed over the black credit card his boss had entrusted to him, and Hye-jin couldn't help but notice the name engraved on it. She was very close to her target. She sighed contentedly.
Eun-ji wasn't her first target and wouldn't be her last. Every job was different, but it was always full of adrenaline and euphoria.
Jun-seo ran his fingers over the name engraving on the card, quickly ran it through the machine, and handed it back. "Here it is."
Jun-seo took a spoonful of his ice cream, finding it really delicious. He took two steps back toward the building but then remembered something. "My boss asked me to ask if you come here often…"
Hye-jin was surprised. How could she tell him that she shouldn't even come back with this truck again? "Well... I... I got this truck a little while ago, and I'm still planning a route, but I think I should come here often. Why? Does she like our ice creams?"
Jun-seo shook his head, seeming to understand what she meant, and then smiled. "Yes, the lemon one seems to be her favorite."
Hye-jin smiled, feeling awkward. She was discussing the flavor of ice cream that the woman she was going to kill liked. "I understand. I'm glad she likes it; it's made with love."
The secretary briefly glanced at his watch, surprised at how quickly time was passing that day. "Well, I'll go."
"Sure, go ahead…"
Jun-seo quickened his steps, and in a few seconds, he had completely disappeared from her field of vision. Hye-jin could feel her heart racing and the adrenaline slowly draining away.
Mark, who had remained silent for a long time, also seemed to feel more relieved now that the other man had walked away. But thinking about the conversation, he ended up smiling, making Hye-jin curious. "Great, now we know you can kill her with an overdose of lemon."
Hye-jin laughed along with Mark. It wasn't a bad option to kill by poisoning, but she had already ordered ammunition to be made with Eun-ji's name. "That sounds boring."
Mark laughed. He knew well that she liked to use her special ammunition. It was her little whim that she wouldn't change for anything.
Hye-jin let out a loud sigh as she stretched her arms and legs.
It had been a good day at work.
She began to calmly close the windows and unplug the appliances . "Get the secretary's details, like address and phone number . If you can get the latest calls, even better..."
Mark quickly started typing on her computer, and within seconds, he had what she wanted. Impressive. "Easy... Well, he lives in neighborhood XX ."
"Okay, what about the numbers ?"
Mark read the data carefully, and he could recognize some of the numbers in the incoming and outgoing call list… Jun-seo looked like a wolf pretending to be a sheep .
"He seems to receive few calls, and they are all from debt collectors . He has some numbers for loan sharks ."
It wasn't too surprising to see someone involved with loan sharks, but it was surprising for Mark to discover they were loan shark numbers. "How do you know?"
He laughed.
Mark was supposed to work for two more people besides Hye-jin, but she was his main source of income and consumed most of his time. However, it wasn't impossible to do small errands for loan sharks. "Well, I don't just work for you…"
Once in contact with any information, he always kept it somewhere, and he had countless HDs and SSDs with varied information about different people.
Information was money, literally.
Mark kept scrolling through Jun-seo's information and saw something really surprising. "This Jun-seo is in contact with Donghae."
Hye-jin, who by then had completely closed the little ice cream truck and was ready to take it to the garage, stopped her movements abruptly. "Is he Eun-ji's secretary and in contact with the opposition ?"
" It seems so ."
Hye-jin let out a loud laugh and finally got behind the wheel of the truck and put it into gear. "This girl really is in a den of snakes ."
Mark let out a yawn. For him, the day was already dawning, while for Hye-jin, dusk was approaching.
He could hear the loud sound of the engine along with Hye-jin's soft voice humming a tune.
She was already tired of the wig and had an appointment; she wouldn't play the spy anymore for today. "Send all the data we collected today to my cell phone. Today's work is over, go to sleep."
He smiled satisfied , already preparing his noodles in the microwave for later. "Help at the restaurant?"
Jeon smiled when he heard the low tone of the microwave. For him, there really was no bad time to eat; he appreciated a bottomless bowl . "Yes, tomorrow get a better disguise."
" Got it . No blonde wigs this time."
Hye-jin drove exceptionally well ; she would make a great getaway driver. She stopped calmly at a red light and watched people rush across the crosswalk.
Watching the various people in ties and business clothes, she considered what the next big step in the plan would be… Maybe she should buy some new clothes.
While the light was out, she could hear Mark watching some random anime while eating his usual breakfast. "Mark, get the security camera footage too. There must be at least 6 cameras pointing at the building. I want the footage from every day since she took over; it shouldn't be much. It wasn't that long ago. "
He made a sound of agreement. "OK. I will send it to your cell phone."
" Perfect. We'll talk tomorrow, Mark."
"See you tomorrow."
The call was finally ended; Hye-jin took out her earphones and placed them in the charging case.
The drive home was relatively smooth, but an ice cream truck drew a lot of attention, so she had to leave the truck in a private garage.
She watched the gate slowly go up and, without much ado, she parked in one of its spaces; finally, she could take off that hideous wig.
She changed back into her normal clothes .
She was ready to go home.
Her motorcycle was parked in the same spot, and she just grabbed her helmet and accelerated away .
The hunt for Eun-ji would begin soon.
