.
Jeon Hye-jin calmly watched the Seoul landscape through the bus window. She had one of her favorite songs playing on her headphones, her coffee was still hot, and an egg salad was about to be devoured. It was a nice day.
She could watch the cityscape becoming more and more congested as she approached her destination. Today was her first day watching Kim Eun-ji and she would do it calmly.
Soon she heard the stop request signal ring and watched a few people in business clothes descend; they followed in slow steps. There was no reason to mix with them so soon.
In front of the huge Kim family building, there was a large park filled with children and old ladies. The wide vegetation was its main attraction.
She noticed a small empty bench and it looked perfect for a first look at her target.
She took another sip of her hot coffee, which was still halfway through, and opened the small container where her salad was. She'd eat well.
Her sunglasses allowed her to look more brazenly at the building's details. It wasn't complicated to see that it had great security, and to get in, you'd need an employee badge. It was probably the worst place to attack. She didn't need to guess much when she deduced that the top floor was where the presidency was, and in case of escape, it would be problematic to escape unharmed by going through almost 50 floors.
But still, it was necessary to know what was going on inside that place; she would need to infiltrate and blend in.
The Kim family had officially consolidated itself in the real estate market.
Kim Eun-ji is part of the third generation. Her grandfather founded the business and her father helped make the city hostage to their services.
Hye-jin had an informant at her disposal in any imaginable place. But the main one was Mark; maybe that's not his real name and she doesn't really care to know. He does the job according to what she says and that's enough. But she knows he lives in some European country and probably makes a living from hacking organizations. He works as her eyes when she's out on the street.
Hye-jin didn't take long to hear that someone was calling her. Well, at the appointed time, she smiled with satisfaction. "Hey darling."
"I have information on Kim Eun-ji."
Mark spoke Korean fluently, but he had a very thick accent and it was really funny to hear him say some words.
"That's good, talk more about it."
"The second generation includes just Mr. Kim Do-yun and his wife. The third generation, in theory, has five heirs, but the four eldest children are adopted and they are all between 25 and 30 years old. Your target is the youngest daughter; she is the only biological child."
She listened intently as she ate her salad. She liked slow, slow bites; there's no need to rush when it comes to food.
"Which one is the client?"
"Kim Dong-hae is the second oldest child. According to the records, the oldest son is a doctor and has never been interested in the family business... The second daughter was involved in drug scandals and was asked to leave the country and currently lives in Dubai."
Dubai is a great retreat to live humbly, Hye-jin thought. "This family is overflowing with money."
"Yes, Eun-ji had a rich childhood and studied at the best private school in the country. She speaks three languages fluently and entered a finance college."
"Did she graduate earlier than the others?"
"Yes, she graduated six months before her class. She was in a lower management position at a branch in London. After the brother's incident, the family promoted her to president and she moved permanently to Seoul."
Eun-ji would be a tough target. Young, smart, and the sole heir to an empire. Internally, Jeon felt that she should have charged a higher price for the service.
"Good. Anything interesting about her?"
"She is living in a hotel room, but there is an apartment in her name and from the information, it is undergoing renovation. Both the hotel and the apartment are perhaps the worst places after the Kim building; it has a very strong security system. But it's not impossible to get in."
Attacking the target's house is not very smart; there are always ways to link the murder to you. It ends up being boring and laborious to cover up the evidence and possible witnesses.
She figured the best ways were still accidents and places off the target's conventional route, but as she used her marked bullets, it became impossible to use accidents as a viable possibility as a master plan.
"Okay. The rest I should find out by watching her. Try to get into the Kim building's system and find the president's schedule; there should be a digital copy on the secretary's computer... Also, find in the security system the entry and exit of third-party companies, such as cleaning services, maintenance, and find out the next visit date."
"Sure."
As she was talking to Mark, it was possible to see children running and old ladies talking and laughing. She even saw some domestic animals running wild across the lawn.
Despite pretending not to notice, she had noticed the approach of a woman.
"My girl, help me."
"Of course, ma'am, what do you need?"
The woman pointed to a huge tree facing the front of the Kim family building. It would be a great observation point and the opportunity to go up there without attracting too many eyes appeared as a divine blessing. "My cat climbed that tree, can you bring it down?"
"Cat? I'll check it out."
As she climbed some branches, she soon saw a disdainful cat staring at her. Hye-jin ignored him and took the opportunity to go up a little further... From her position, she could see what was on some floors; she could see that some looked like big warehouses and others even seemed to be empty.
Downstairs, there was little movement from the security guards. They seemed attentive to all the movements in the park, and now they were getting ready to act. That building was secured with iron and fire; it was clear.
"Miss, it is not allowed to climb the trees in the park. Please come down immediately."
"..."
"Please, I won't say it a third time."
Hye-jin heard the restless man and soon understood the situation. It would be a fun hunt for Eun-ji's neck.
The lazy cat was caught off guard and gave a yowl of dissatisfaction as he was dragged under the tree. "I'm going... Ready."
The feline seemed content to hug someone he knew after Hye-jin's little sneak attack.
She smiled, satisfied with the cat and the confused face of the security guard who had called her.
"A cat?"
The young lady bowed in thanks and quickly left. "Thank you, young lady."
"Sorry to cause trouble." Hye-jin didn't really care about attracting attention, but that unusual situation gave her a lot of ideas on how to approach her target. She should buy cat food to thank the lazy little feline.
"Everything is fine."
Watching the bouncer walk away, she went back to the bench and picked up her salad again, which was now cold.
"Hear that?"
"Yeah, want me to look around the park too?"
"Yes. Find something we can take advantage of."
"Right..."
The Kim family looked promising.
