Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: The creeping cold

"Z-...-am...-ake up Zam" A female voice called out, but was muffled because our dear protagonist was asleep.

The teen, Zam, shifted in his sleep not being bothered by anything around him. His long locks of dark chocolate hair covered his shut eyes. He snored lightly, his chest rising then falling with his calm breaths. The teen wore a large red hoodie with a bat drawn on the front with bold golden letters that read "Mess with the man and you get bashed".

"Let me try, ZAM! WAKE. THE. FUCK. UP! *BEEEP!*" Yelled the sudden deep male voice along with a loud car horn.

Zam jolted from his seat as he woke up, jumping forward ever so slightly, and since the car he was in was parked on a road that went down a slope, gravity did its work and made him fall forward and faceplant against the back of the driver's seat.

"I'm awake..." Groaned out a groggy Zam, muffled by the seat his face was planted on.

"Good, now get out of the car, we're here" The older man named Liam, Zam's father, said as he stepped out of the car with a chuckle.

"Uh-huh..." He responded, pushing himself off the seat and stepping out of the car with a yawn and an arm stretch, which was then followed by a satisfying neck crack "Aah..." Zam sighed in satisfaction, walking to the sidewalk where the rest of his family was.

"Finally awake now?" Asked the motherly yet stern voice of Angela, Zam's mother, he nodded as he saw that she was next to his older sister, who spoke next.

"How did you even fall asleep? It was a five-minute drive from the hotel!" Asked the oldest of the siblings, Julia.

"Dumbass, everyone knows the shorter the drive is, the more likely you are to fall asleep... Honestly, no common sense in this family..." Zam joked in a laid-back and bored tone, placing his hands inside of his hoodie's pockets.

"Well, Jackass, I'M not the one who decided it was a good idea to stay up watching random crap on YouTube..." Julia retorted whilst rolling her eyes at her brother, as he simply shrugged the comment off.

"Language" Angela chimed in.

"English, mother. Do you speak it?" Zam said while he and his family began walking down the sidewalk and into a crowded area "So, can anyone remind me again why we're shopping?"

Zam's family collectively groaned in exasperation, this boy was quite forgetful, wasn't he?

"For god's sake Zam, we just told you back at the hotel!" Liam rubbed his eyes, annoyed at his son's forgetfulness.

"Sorry... 'snot my fault we did a full two-hour walk through a mud-riddled, rough terrain having path. Just to see, to what I will admit is a gorgeous lake"

"Never mind... we're here to buy vacation gifts for both of your grandma's" The older male explained as he and the rest of the family reached the corner of a block, one that connected to a crossroad of multiple shops and restaurants that continued down the road.

"Ah... That's right... the ever-popular obliga- tradition of buying your family a gift when you're on vacation..." Zam said as he looked to the corner in front of the one he stood on, seeing it was a small gift shop.

"Just bear with it sweetie, okay? It's not that bad" Angela reassured her son with a pat on the back.

"It is when you and dad take an eternity to decide if you should buy a small decoration or some clothing piece" Zam told his parents as they simply looked to the side sheepishly.

Zam sighed once more as they crossed the street, shaking his head and then gaining a small smile.

"Well I shouldn't complain too much, we are on vacation. And I also have to admit that Ushuaia has been looking pretty nice so far... save for the awful road design..." He told, reaching the entrance of the small shop and looking down at his older sister.

"Speaking of nice stuff... We still have those vouchers for a free hot chocolate. You want one?" Zam asked Julia, holding up four brown-colored pieces of paper. Each one reading 'Good for 1 Free Hot chocolate'

"You had me at 'Free'" Julia responded, giving her brother a sly smile, then looking at Liam and Angela "That's okay right? We'll get them down the street and then come back here?" She asked as she stood next to Zam, who still held the vouchers in his hand.

Liam simply looked at his wife with half-lidded eyes, she simply shrugged as a response. Liam sighed once more.

Liam: "Sure why not..." Liam sighed at his kids "But make sure to bring one for us" He added pointing to himself and Angela, as he then walked into the gift shop with Angela right behind.

"You got it dad" Zam waved at his father, as he began to walk down the sidewalk and to the small chocolate shop "Let's go, little sis..." He teasingly said to his sister.

"Little!?" She angrily responded to her brother's comment "I'm older than you, dickhead!" She yelled, fuming from what he said.

"Yeah, but..." Zam laughed a bit. When he then looked down at his sister and poked her forehead.

"Yer' still shorter than me"

Julia= 165 Cm / Zam= 183 Cm

"That doesn't make me your little sister!" Julia huffed, smacking Zam's hand away in anger.

Zam chuckled at his sister's exaggerated reaction. A little trolling did the mind good in his eyes. Especially to his sister. I mean, what younger sibling doesn't find entertainment in annoying the hell out of their older sibling.

He turned around and pointed to the door to the chocolate shop with a small grin on his face.

"Whatever you say, shortie..." Zam managed to say before he let out a soft laugh. Julia groaned as she walked passed him in a hurry.

"Oh put a sock in it, you ass" She insulted, walking into the store as the bell on the door rang then closing it behind her, leaving a laughing Zam outside.

Zam continued to laugh for a few short moments, then recomposing himself while wiping away small tears that formed under his eyes. He sighed in relief, deciding it better to leave to jokes for later. Walking to the door as he passed a small and thin alleyway that was right next to the building, Zam heard a sudden voice call out to him from the darkness of the alleyway, or at least from his perspective it seemed that way... The voice called out to him and spoke in a gargled and messy tone.
