Zam inhaled sharply as he felt a wave of anxiety rush through him. He sat down on the floor and breathed heavily.
"What is going on...?" He murmured softly. Zam stared blankly at the screens in front of him, trying to piece everything together in his mind.
"So," He said quietly. "I am a Player then? A User? A Performer?" He questioned weakly, rubbing his forehead in frustration. This new information was certainly...unsettling. So many things had just happened at once.
One of the screens dinged with another notification, followed by the first screen reading.
<===>
Are you finding this hard to process, "User Solis"?
<===>
The calm female voice questioned as the screen floated closer to Zam's face.
"Oh, noooo" Zam rolled his eyes "I'm totally okay and not panicking about my whole situation right now." Zam scoffed as he tried his best to remain calm despite the overwhelming amount of information he was dealing with.
"What do you think you freaky goddamned System?!

If you wish, I can analyze your thoughts to get a better gra-
<===>
"Wha!? NO! Stay outta my thoughts, you weirdo!!" Zam interrupted the voice as he grew angrier and angrier at the situation he was in.
"And get this bright screen outta my face!" He snapped, waving his arms at it as if he was swatting a fly away. But, before he could push away the screen, it suddenly disappeared.
"Huh? Where'd it go?" Zam muttered, looking up at where he had seen it only moments earlier. He looked around for a few seconds but found nothing. Then he heard a voice within his head.
{Does this suit you better "User Solis"?} The voice, now in his head, questioned softly. Zam jolted up from the ground in shock. Now it was in his head!? What else was there to come!?
"I'd like to ask... How?" Zam muttered under his breath before letting out a loud groan as he ran both his hands over his head, trying to figure out what the fuck just happened to him. Why did the strange voice show up out of nowhere!? And how did it invade his head!?
{Quite simple, "User Solis". As your connection to the System, I am, by proxy, acting as the connection for your use. In terms better understood by you and to put it simply, we share a sort of connection. A mind-link if you will.} The System's voice explained.
{We are connected through our respective "servers", so I am able to access all "files" and programs within your "server". I.E. your mind, memories, thoughts, etc.}
"...wait, wait." Zam raised a hand as he tried to wrap his head around the system's words. "So you're gonna be stuck in my head!? For how long?!" Zam shouted.
{No time limit.} The System voice reassured him calmly. {This link is permanent. As such, we cannot remove each other from each other without the risk of affecting your neural capacities negatively.}
"This isn't reassuring! We're literally stuck together forever! Isn't there anything that can stop it!?" Zam cried angrily as he paced back and forth furiously as he tried to figure out the System's intentions while ignoring everything else around him.
{You needn't worry, "User Solis", you have all you need to keep yourself safe. As a fully converted User, you should now have access to the <

[Misc. Information]
[User Stats] [UNABLE TO OBSERVE UNTIL USER HAS FULLY BEGUN THEIR TUTORIAL]
<===>
The information was fully displayed for Zam to see and look over as well as to read. Zam took a deep breath and let it out slowly as he thought about the info he had read and reread. After what felt like an eternity, he decided to question the AI instead.
"Alright," Zam spoke after calming himself down somewhat. His ears had perked up at the first statement the System made. He stared wide-eyed at the glowing screen and quickly walked towards it.
"Safe...?" He muttered with doubt laced in his voice "Safe from what...?" He asked curiously. He was still slightly worried about his safety, but his curiosity got the best of him.
{Ah... It seems I have not told you yet...} The system thought as its tone lowered slightly. {As you have observed prior, you have begun your tutorial}
"My tutorial?" Zam's eyes widened even further. "You mentioned that before already... What does that mean...?"
{To simplify the explanation into simpler terms, you currently are in the midst of a tutorial. Each user tutorial has three sections. First is when you choose your starter items. Secondly, you must view your stats, and thirdly you must finish off all obstacles to fully complete your tutorial. Actions afterward shall be only be explained after the tutorial is finished}
The System explained as it manifested a floating holographic display of a large box with a question mark placed on each of its sides.
{This item is a "Random starter weapon crate", which by its name you can assume that it contains a variety of basic weapons}
Zam raised a brow at the sight of the box that appeared on the holographic display, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
"Random starter...? Weapons?" He muttered, narrowing his eyes as the hologram vanished with a low *ZIP*. Now that Zam stood alone once again he continued to question the System further.
"So how do I use the item?" Zam asked, not believing he was accepting this situation so easily. The system hummed lightly as it formed a mental image in front of its user's eyes.
{Simple, "User Solis". Simply open your inventory by saying
Zam blinked a couple of times before looking back at the screen with a puzzled expression.
Well... That seemed easy enough. All he needed to do was open his inventory and pick something, right?
"Hmm," He paused for a moment as he thought about it "Inventory..." He muttered to himself as a transparent blue screen popped into existence in front of him.
In front of him floated a medium-sized rectangular screen with a blue border that divided his inventory into smaller boxes. He glanced down at a couple of items that he saw.
Amongst those were some small items; one "Random starter weapon crate"; one "Random starter equip crate". Alongside those two items, two other boxes within his inventory caught his attention.
One of them being the large hot chocolate he had next to him and the other being the other three smaller ones. He furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at them.
Zam then looked to the bottom of the screen with curiosity as he saw a small box that displayed his "Credits" which he promptly assumed to be the currency the System would use in this game-like setting.
[Credits: 1.000]
'So I'm guessing that's just a bunch of coins?' Zam guessed mentally as he tapped on it experimentally and watched the numbers appear behind it.
When he finished checking out his total, the screen finally went black as the last item appeared.
{You would be correct "User Solis"} The System voice informed. Zam jumped up as his eye twitched at the sudden introduction of the voice into his head again.
"I thought I told you to stay outta my thoughts," He said as he started to glare at the empty space in front of him.
{I apologize for invading your consciousness.} The voice sounded apologetic yet somehow still emotionless {Please resume your tutorial} The System promptly replied.
"Fine." Zam huffed, turning back to the screens to find himself once more facing them. Zam continued to gaze at his inventory screen as he tried to gather his thoughts.
This whole scenario was starting to become very confusing, and he really wanted to understand what was happening to him. His eyes wandered to the other corner of the screen where two buttons sat.
[Sell] [Buy]
He quickly picked the "buy" option since he really didn't have any intentions to sell anything. The screen changed to a longer one, with various items displayed with their names, prices, and what he could only assume to be their ranks. He looked down at the screen with mild interest, and saw the catalog labeled "Weaponry".
Zam moved his finger up to press the tab as the screen once again shifted to only show weapons of varying levels.
[Swords] [Spears] [Bows] [Tridents] [Staffs] [Wands] [Guns] [Handguns] [Cannons] [Blasters] [...]
The tags trailed off as Zam's eyes scanned the various types of swords and spears. He clicked on the sword and spear section and instantly saw the list of different types.
"Jeez... How many weapons are there!?" Zam exclaimed in slight exasperation as he scrolled down the list that seemed endless. The options were endless!
There were so many variations on different kinds of swords and spears that there was practically no way to decide between them.
{An infinite amount, "User Solis"} The System supplied. {The System is constructed by an endlessly generated highly complex algorithm. As such, there are never simply 'the same' options for purchasing items in the built-in shop}
"Okay... That makes sense..." Zam mumbled as he gave up on reading any more of the numerous options.
{Though, if I may add. If you are considering purchasing a weapon and equipment for the tutorial, you will need to make a choice between a Common sword and a Common staff. These restrictions are placed by the System for balancing porpuses. Please choose wisely} The System informed before going silent again.
"Okay... that seems reasonable, I guess..." Zam said with mild confusion. He scrolled back to the top and pressed the item listed as [Common Sword] on the upper left-hand side of the menu. The weapon description appeared in a small pop-up.
[Item Class: Common]
[Name: Common Sword of begginings]
[Item Attributes: N/A]
[Description: In your hand, the blade may look plain and dull, but the true power of this blade lies within the skill you are able to acquire through the continuous use of this weapon. Good luck newbie]
[Stat increase: +5 STR]
Zam blinked as he read the text on the screen before raising a single eyebrow at the weapon description. He then moved to look at the price listed for the weapon.
His eyes nearly bulged out of his skull as his face turned red.
"A.. A Common SWORD?!?" Zam exclaimed in disbelief while waving his arms around wildly. "What bullshit is this!!!" Zam yelled as he continued to gesticulate wildly in front of the screen.
{Hmmm? This is quite odd...} The System hummed confusedly in surprise, {Is "User Solis" upset...?} It added before continuing,
[Price: 1.000.000.000 Credits]
{Yes… this is truly strange...}
Zam glared at the screen angrily before his lips curled into a sneer and he snarled.
"F*ck you, you useless System!!" He screamed as he slammed his fist onto the screen with rage clear in his voice.
*CRACK!*
His knuckles immediately grew red, but nothing happened to the shop screen. Zam pursed his lips tightly as he retracted his fist slowly before lifting it above his head and screaming out in pain as he clenched his fist tightly.
He gritted his teeth together tightly as he tried to ignore his throbbing hand.
{That wasn't necessary.} The System stated rather calmly as if it completely ignored all of Zam's previous outbursts and actions.
"SHIT!" He cursed loudly, balling his fingers into a tight fist even tighter than before. "What kind of stupid fucking-" Zam began swearing profusely.
{How truly odd for such a basic item to cost such a high price} The System said with a hint of disappointment in its tone.
{Also, I highly advise against hitting the System screens as they are made from materials that have been specifically designed to withstand any attacks within the <
"OH! NOW YOU DECIDE TO TELL ME!?!" Zam snapped as he glared daggers into the screen and stared at it angrily.
Zam gazed at the screen intensely for a few moments, waiting for the System to speak again. But the System remained silent, letting him stew in his anger until it decided to reply. Zam huffed in frustration as his fists trembled slightly.
{You seem to be injured...} The System mentioned quietly to him after several minutes passed by, causing the teen to glance at the screen in mild irritation.
"You're telling me!" Zam yelled as he groaned with pain, still gripping his throbbing hand tightly, "I hadn't noticed you shitty System!" He continued to groan with pain throbbing in his hand.
"How can I possibly afford this crap? EVER!?" He growled furiously as his free hand pointed accusingly at his inventory screen.
{It seems there has been an error within the calculations for the prices you've been given. However, the error should be fixed soon... Hopefully} The System replied nonchalantly.
Zam pursed his lips once more, taking in a deep breath through his nose before releasing a heavy exhale.
He continued to breathe and exhale shakily as he rubbed a hand across his forehead.
"Great... Great... Just great…" He muttered before shaking his head slightly, trying to get rid of the headache the whole situation had given him.
As Zam did his best to calm his breathing, he closed his eyes for a moment before opening his eyes again, letting out another sigh as he looked away from his system screen and at the empty ground underneath him. After letting out yet another sigh he opened his mouth to speak.
"Alright... since... "Buying" is impossible at the moment and I have nothing better to do, why don't I just open my random weapon crate?" He said as his expression turned neutral once again.
He sighed deeply and glanced at his inventory screen once more, seeing as there were still the two random loot boxes remaining.
{Are you done looking at your inventory?} The System inquired with curiosity.
"Yeah..." Zam replied as he pressed and held his fingers over the two items. Taking them out of his inventory as they popped into his free hands with a quick blue flash.
The boxes were palm-sized and quite heavy. The weapons crate was a transparent light grey color with a sword engraved on all of its sides. While the equipment crate was transparent as well, its design was an intense black color instead of light grey. Engraved on its sides was a drawing of a shield.
Zam stared down at his hands at the two items as they almost seemed to pulse with strange energy in his hands. They hummed like electrical currents in his palms and the air around him felt suddenly hot in contrast to the cold winter environment which was currently surrounding him.
"So..." He trailed off as he brought his focus towards the glowing item in his hands again as his fingers gripped the item firmly, "What am I supposed to do with these?"
{Simple, "User Solis"...} The System answered with a simple, emotionless tone {Crush them in your hands to use it}
"Uhh... okay then?" Zam raised a single brow before lowering his gaze back to the object in his hands. He let out a slight scoff and tightened his grip on both of the items.
His grip on the item tightened, causing the edges of the strange material to begin to crack under the pressure.
"Uh..." Zam murmured hesitantly. His grip tightened further as cracks spread throughout the surface of the dice-like boxes and began growing larger as he struggled to keep his grip.
He could feel the edges of the box beginning to give in due to the force he was using. Zam grit his teeth harder and squeezed the entire frame of the two items more tightly as his mind raced with a million possibilities for what it could give him.
The boxes began to emit a faint shimmer of white energy along their edges before gradually being engulfed within bright silver sparks, which then quickly turned into pure white light particles, and finally disappeared altogether, leaving only traces of glowing dust scattered across his hands. The box that seemed like it had broken easily shattered into hundreds of sparkling pieces of pure light as it fell from his hand.
"That... Didn't do anything..." Zam spoke aloud after a few seconds of stunned silence.
"Yo, System..." Zam called out but received no response. The boy frowned slightly, "System?" Still nothing.
{Pay attention... "User Solis"} The System suddenly interrupted him as Zam jumped slightly in shock before glancing back down at his hands.
He stared down at his hands for a good minute before the shattered remains suddenly began to glow brightly in his palms and he felt an incredible amount of pressure crushing down upon him. Zam grunted as he shut his eyes due to the intense light coming from his hands. The pressure slowly began to vanish however once the light began to dim.
Zam slowly opened his eyes to see the shards that once filled the space between his fingers now gone.
And what had replaced it...
{Congratulations on your first crate opening, "User Solis"} The System congratulated him merrily.
Zam's eyes twitched with annoyance before he glanced down at the weapon and equipment in his hands curiously.
{Your inventory has now expanded into the following items:}
[Item class: Common]
[Name: Common Wooden Baseball bat]
[Description: An ordinary wooden baseball bat with a small steel grip. Doesn't seem to do much damage]
Zam's face scrunched up in disgust as he stared at the weapon and its properties. 'W-what... the... hell?' He thought before looking up at his system screen with a confused stare. Zam then looked to the screen displaying the description of the equipment.
[Item class Commom]
[Name Common Chain Necklace]
[Description: A necklace made of various metals and minerals that have been fused together to form a nearly indestructible chain. Has two Dog Tags attached to it. Other than the ability to save a singular skill not in use, this equipment is purely for vanity purposes. It can only store one Skill.]
Zam closed his eyes for a brief moment, taking in a slow, calming breath before opening them.
Though the calming breath didn't seem to help lessen the anger he was feeling as the sight of the items left a sour taste in his mouth. Zam narrowed his eyes with displeasure as he looked at each of the items in his hands.
'Damn... this sucks. What kind of bullshit System designed this shit?' He thought silently while clenching his teeth tightly together. He didn't know whether to laugh or scream in frustration. As the System had stated that these items were the only ones he'd obtain from random crates.
The fact that none of the loot boxes had given him something of actual value wasn't helping either.
'Better keep moving forward anyway. I'm tired of wasting time with useless junk. I've already wasted enough time on this....' Zam grumbled darkly to himself as he placed the necklace onto his neck and gripped the wooden bat tightly in his hands.
He then glanced at the items in his inventory screen before saying aloud "Uh... close inventory?"
He paused for a moment before repeating the sentence, this time with more clarity "Close inventory, please"
He watched as the screen flickered for a few moments before fully disappearing from his view, leaving him once again in the darkness of the empty store.
{Good...} The System spoke after a few minutes as it paused for a moment and flashed another message to Zam, which caused the male to look towards his right side.

Zam stared blankly at the words on his menu screen, completely baffled by what was displayed in front of him. What was with the strange numbers? He furrowed his brows as he continuously examined the text displayed in front of him.
{As you can currently see, "User Solis", you have truly begun your tutorial now} The System chirped cheerfully in a cheerful yet dead voice. {All that is left is to teleport you directly into the tutorial dungeon. Stand by...}
"Wait hold up-!" Zam cut off his own sentence immediately when a sudden loud buzzing sound echoed through the air followed by a blinding flash of white light, which made the boy squeeze his eyes shut tight against the sudden brightness. He slowly reopened his eyes after a few seconds and squinted them in order to get used to the luster.
{3...} The System spoke as it counted down in a calm tone of voice.
"Slow down for a seco-!" Zam yelped in surprise as he stumbled backwards, tripping over himself as his feet suddenly lifted off of the ground.
Zam blinked owlishly for a second before his eyes widened and he frantically reached his arms forward to try and stop his floating.
{2...} The System continued to speak without showing any sign of stopping.
The boy's eyes shot wide open in panic as he struggled even harder in midair to try and steady his flight. The sound of the buzzing sound grew louder and louder as his body began to glow brightly from the inside.
The ringing in his ears grew deafeningly loud as the singular second left in this plane of existence turned into several million agonizing seconds. He could still hear the faint humming noise of the teleportation taking place and could feel how he began to be pulled upward. His heart pounded relentlessly in his chest as he tried desperately to fight off whatever was dragging him upwards.
{1...} The System declared with finality. Zam closed his eyes tightly, waiting for it all to be over.

Silence...
No sound.
No movement whatsoever. There was absolute silence. It almost seemed like the air around Zam had disappeared, leaving nothing but a vacuum.
The light around Zam remained as he opened his eyes once more and saw something he hadn't expected. He hadn't changed locations at all...
He still floated midair in the same empty store...
"Wha...what just happened?" Zam stammered quietly in confusion, blinking in complete shock. Before he could even properly register anything happening...

A plethora of System screens had flashed past in rapid succession with blinding red light and a series of high-pitched whistles. The bright flashing lights and the sudden burst of energy that accompanied those events sent a wave of dizziness over Zam. The world spun around as he felt a familiar sensation of vertigo wash over him.
"What the- HELL!" Zam suddenly exclaimed as he was dropped onto the floor, falling flat on his ass.
"Oww..." A small groan escaped Zam's mouth as he attempted to rub some feeling back into his body. After a couple seconds of struggling to push himself back onto his feet, he finally managed to get to his knees.
Looking up at the flashing screens above him, Zam frowned as he noticed how one of the screens in the middle had been reduced to a mangled mess of text and data. As if trying to compensate for that loss, the rest of the screen glowed an intense red color before being replaced by a different, larger screen.
Is all the bigger screen read in blocky letters.
{This is... unusual...} The system commented worriedly as it seemingly ran some diagnostics on the damaged operation. {Normally, the User would have been teleported to the tutorial dungeon}
[Warning system error]

Zam tilted his head to the side curiously before speaking "What is it...?" There was a long pause before the system replied.
{It is registering that you are currently located in the tutorial dungeon...}
"Pardon...?" The boy furrowed his brows confusedly at the System's response. By this point, the multiple error screens had vanished along with their intense red lights.
The System kept quiet after his reply. A silence that was soon broken by the sudden sound of glass shattering against the floor.
Zam glanced back towards the source of the noise. It seemed to have come from a few aisles further down. Zam gulped, his heart beginning to race in nervousness as he slowly turned his head to see what exactly caused the shattering noise. He took a hesitant step forward as he walked toward the aisle.
A low gargled growl sounded from one of the rows of shelves on the other side of the aisle. Zam's heart started beating faster at that realization as he took another careful step forward until he was standing only inches away from the shelf filled with glass decorations.
There, on the floor, the shattered remains of several pieces of glass lay scattered across the tiled floor. The boy shakily moved his head to look up... and promptly gaped.
A looming shadowy figure had jumped forward to him, its jaw hanging loosely open as tried to devour him whole. In a state of pure panic, Zam had managed to bring the bat in his hands up to block the incoming bite, holding it horizontally.
The figure, missing its target, chomped down on the bat instead, making Zam cry out in shock as the creature's teeth bit down on the wooden weapon, somehow not breaking it. The figure growled like a feral animal, throwing some aggressive yells in the mix from time to time.
"W-what the hell?!" Zam shouted loudly as his grip weakened from the force behind the attack. Doing his best to resist the beast's relentless assault, Zam pushed the creature backwards with all his might.
In a stroke of luck, he managed to shove it backwards with enough force to push it into one of the lights remaining in the ceiling, finally showing the face of the creature that it had been hidden under the darkness.
Zam's eyes widened in horror upon seeing the face of that thing... a face which seemed to be completely devoid of natural skin colors. Its lips were pulled back exposing razor-sharp fangs with crimson liquid dripping down onto them from between them. Its eyes appeared to be a glowing red color. It looked almost demonic, almost as if it wasn't really human anymore; and it wasn't.
One of the beast's eyes was sunken in its sockets. Its nose was nearly nonexistent with the top half of its skull still intact while the lower portion was now hollow. Its tongue hung limply off its lips, leaving it looking slightly lopsided. What made the situation worse however was how rotten its skin looked. It was almost sickening in its ghastliness. It looked like it was slowly being peeled off its bones like old paper...
Undead...
No... No, no, NO. That couldn't be. Zam, although extremely panicked, refused to believe that he would find such a grotesque monster in a place like this.
"I... I..." Zam stuttered, trying desperately to think of something, anything, to save his life. The monster kept biting down into the bat. Shaking its head uncontrollably in an attempt to shake away the weapon.
'I have to run!' Zam thought frantically to himself, before quickly pulling the bat away from the monster. He backed away slowly, keeping the bat in front of him as a shield.
When the monster lunged again to take a chunk off the bat, Zam swung it towards it as hard as he could, hoping to knock the damn thing off balance and give him more time to escape.
He hit his mark. Hitting it straight on the face, causing the monster to stumble into one of the nearby shelves, smashing into it and causing it to splinter into a million shards of wood. With the creature distracted and momentarily incapacitated, Zam wasted no time in running away from the creature.
Making a straight B-line to the store exit, he didn't bother to turn around as the creature let out another angry roar. Once he reached the entrance, he hastily pushed the door open and dashed out into the dark gloomy streets.
'No...' That thought echoed in his mind repeatedly. His mind refused to comprehend the sight he was presented with outside.
Everything... Everything was just wrong here...
The streets... riddled with the same-looking creatures, some were large and towering menacingly while others were smaller. All of them, every single one, were staring at him with red glowing eyes and hungry fleshless grins as they continued stalking closer and closer. They all seemed too eager to eat him.
'No... No, no, no!' Zam shook his head rapidly as he stared wide-eyed ahead, refusing to believe what was happening.
