Chapter 12 - Going Back. Complusion. Secrets. Zach Lorenzo Mikaelson.

She asked again.

"Okay...I guess." Klaus replied.

"Thank you, Klaus." She smiled, showing a thumbs up to Stefan and Damon. "He'll be staying for a while."

"We have a lot of room here, Caroline!" Klaus didn't care who she brought as long as she was there. "He can stay as long as he can."

"Thank you, Klaus!" She jumped up and down. "He needs protection, Klaus…."

"Okay…" Klaus was still confused. "But…."

"I'll explain everything!" She told him, "I promise."

"See you tomorrow, love!"

They heard a click and the phone was off.

"It's done." Caroline fell down on the couch. She looked at Damon.

"Are you ready?" She asked,

Damon Salvatore nodded, he had to do this for his nephew.

"Damon Salvatore…" His eyes changed, "Zach Salvatore is dead."

"Zach Salvatore is dead." He repeated like a robot. "He died two days ago."

Caroline let him eaze.

"Now, vervain…." Caroline told Stefan. "Give it to him."

He nodded,

"I'll compel Elena and the others on my way." She said, "When I come back, keep Zach ready. Don't tell anyone."

Stefan nodded again. Caroline was gone.

She went home hurriedly, she packed haphazardly quickly. She knocked on Elena's door, she came outside.

"Caroline…?" She looked at Caroline surprised, "What are you doing?"

Caroline didn't have time to explain.

"Do you have vervain on you?" She asked.

"No...Why?"

Caroline's blue eyes pierced into her brown ones.

"Zach Salvatore is dead." She told Elena, "There will be a funeral tomorrow. Be there, cry. Be sensitive."

She looked at her.

"An accident killed Zach Salvatore, he died two days ago!"

Elena repeated everything Caroline said.

"Now, Forget I came here." She told Elena, "If someone asks, I have been in New Orleans for a week now."

She stopped for a second.

"I cannot attend the funeral because I am in New Orleans attending business on the behalf of Stefan Salvatore."

"You are attending business in New Orleans on Stefan's behalf."

Elena repeated everything.

"Now, go…" Caroline shut the door.

She went back to the Salvatore House.

"I'm back!" She shouted.

Damon Salvatore was gone, Only Stefan and Katherine stood with Zach.

"Hold a funeral tomorrow." Caroline told Stefan.

He nodded.

"And if anyone asks."

She hated to compel her friends. But this was for them. For her best friend, Stefan Salvatore. For her nephew, Zach. For the last of the Salvatore Line.

"Why am I not at the funeral?" She told him, "I am out of town, taking care of some business for you."

Stefan and Katherine repeated everything.

"And…...You don't know where I am." A tear dropped from her eye, "Just I'll be gone for a while."

The tear fell from her chin,

"And even though you are holding a funeral for your son." She wiped the tear away fiercely. "You know in the deepest of your heart that he is alive and he will come back one day."

They nodded softly,

"And, it is a secret you can never share with anyone."

"It is a secret I can't share with anyone."

She looked at them.

"Okay….Say goodbye to Zach."

Stefan kissed his son on the forehead.

"Goodbye...Zach...Caroline is going to take good care of you." He turned away. "I love you,"

Katherine took him from Stefan.

"Hey.." Caroline turned Stefan towards himself, "Look at me…"

She took his hands.

"It'll be okay, Stefan." She told him, "I promise. There is no way I'll let Zach get hurt…..And as soon as we fix that." She told him, "I'll bring him straight home."

"I know you will."

He had tears in his eyes,

"I love him, Stefan." She told him, "And I love you…."

She hugged him. Caroline held on tight.

"I should go now." She told him.

Caroline picked up Zach's suitcase, his car seat, and smiled.

"I have to go, Katherine." She told her. "If I go at night...It's better."

Katherine nodded, she just couldn't lose another baby. She followed Caroline to the car. She watched Caroline adjust the car seat in the back.

"Okay…." Caroline took Zach from Katherine and put him in the seat.

"Take care, Caroline." Stefan stood by the car.

"I will, you too!" She shut the car door, "Goodbye, Katherine."

Caroline told her, and started up the car. It was going to be a long night for Caroline.

Stefan Salvatore waved, till the car disappeared down the road.

It would be even longer for the sad parents.

Caroline Forbes's journey had begun. She was off to New Orleans, at last. Something she had wanted for some time, and Klaus Mikaelson had wanted it for a long long time.

She had come over a few times before, but had to return back very quickly.

After several hours of driving, she stopped in front of a house. A Mikaelson Compound, The Mikaelson compound. She smiled. She was happy to be back here. This time she didn't need to ask people for directions. No one was outside. She took out her phone,

"I'm here." She texted Klaus.

After a few minutes, Klaus Mikaelson opened the gates of the Mikaelson Compound.

"Hello, Caroline."

She drove her car inside.

"Why are the gates chained up?" She asked.

It was something that wasn't the same the last time.

She was taking out Zach Salvatore from the back seat.

"For Hope." He told her. "Safety purposes."

Caroline smiled,

"I think the Mikaelson name is enough security."

Klaus held the car door for her. She was undoing the seat belts.

"Klaus, This is Zach Lorenzo Salvatore." Caroline held him in her arms.

"Okay...Tell me again." Klaus smiled, "How is he a Salvatore, aren't Damon and Stefan vampires?"

He asked.

"Not anymore." Caroline told him.

"What?" He was shocked.

"When Katherine took the cure…"

"Katherina Petrova?" Klaus took a step back.

"Yes.." Caroline told him.

"You brought Katherine's son to my house?"

"Klaus….!" Caroline looked at him, "Think of him as Stefan's. You used to like Stefan."

Klaus waited for a second.

"And you can't hate a kid, can you?"

Klaus Mikaelson thought of his own daughter, his beautiful baby, Hope.

He smiled. She was right. He couldn't hate a child. He had no grudges against this little infant.
