Her life under cycled around the underwater library. Yes, she lived history and stories about humans but the urge to know them more was triggered by her parent's death. If she wanted to destroy the person responsible for the murder then she would have to study humans, to effectively carry out the revenge. And for this to happen, historical books and documentary books had become her favorite, burying her in them every day, researching something new, something which would be of use to her and it helped.
Nobody bothered her in the library, nobody cared about it anyway cause some found it hard to understand the books, given that they didn't know the language of the humans. In the whole sea, nobody knew the dry lands like her, maybe if her father had been alive then he would be the one to surpass her. Studying there made her know just like a person who is on dry land. For instance,
Just like the underwater dwellers, humans have both males and females but their body structure is different, they have hair just like the mermaids but not as long as the ones of the mermaids. Humans speak different languages but the most popular and the most used one is English, just the one she knows. Humans have clothes that cover their bodies, unlike mermaids, who have the tail of a fish and the upper part of the body resembles that of humans, they don't need to hide the fish-like part of the body, it's already covered in scales, for the female, their hairs cover up to the breasts, not revealing them, as for the men, their bare chests ain't an issue, everyone is used to it already. Mermaids have different types of bracelets, some made of pearls others of gemstones, and other beautiful minerals found in the sea. Humans have bracelets too but they call them jewelry, which varies in price. Humans' mode of dress also varies with age and money too. Mermaids have different talks, blue, pink, green and so on and the same is applied to their hair.
Humans are much more intelligent than mermaids. Able to build ships that roam the sea now and then, planes which you see their reflection on the water passing through the sky. Gadgets like phones and computers, rockets, and a lot of other valuable and new things fall off the sea. Compared to them, they only know how to make beautiful ornaments from the pearls and gemstones found in the sea.
Humans study and work hard to get money, money means everything in their world, to buy food buy clothes, and take care of their families, the underwater dwellers live freely in the sea, food is plenty, and there's no need to work for it, sea veggies, algae like kelp, sea grapes and Irish moss were just in abundance. Only worried about the pollution from humans that make the food die.
They also don't go to school like humans but you'll find them in groups basking in the sun and playing in the water, competing in swimming or maybe swimming among the dolphins and whales. Humans have different kinds of sports too and a more engaged in them than the mermaids.
Mermaids are different, some are shape shifters but very few of them, and among the few, some of them can stay outside the water for just a minute, if they stay for long then they will start suffocating and die. The other few can stay both in water and on dry land but none of them has ever been interested in leaving the sea, especially ever since the humans started hunting them.
She had learned that she would need a human name because her name would sound weird, on top of that she had to plan on how to leave the sea and come to the beach without being noticed, and about being naked, she has a dress in her mermaid's chest which she collected in the sea, she'd wear it to resemble them. She was a real mermaid shapeshifter, but even though she could stay in the dryland for as long as she would like, she would have to always wear the blue amulet. With that, she wouldn't have to worry about turning into a mermaid again when the waters touch her, it was a present that her father had gifted her. She had kept it in her chest because she didn't know when she'd use it but now it has a use.
About mixing and blending with the humans, she didn't care that much about the part, she knew that once she was on the dry land she would figure it out. The problem she was dealing with now was how to find her parent's killers. There are seven continents, right? How would she be able to find the killers among so many people? Where would she even start? How would she even know it's them? She was hiding her face and didn't see the faces of the killers well, how would she know them among such many people? The questions kept on ringing in her head and she felt it ache. She has spent almost all her years waiting for this, but it still felt like she needed more than what she already had.
