Chapter 2 - Love at first Sight

Sarfaraz Tailor's daughter Nargis has also grown up now. As Nargis grew up, her beauty kept getting brighter. Seeing the light that was on his face, one would be blown away. Big luscious eyes, lips like rose petals, body as shiny as silver, waist-long blonde hair, and immense innocence on her were enough to make anyone fall in love with her. But Nargis loved simplicity. She was not proud of her beauty. He was not fond of dressing up at all. This was what made him different from other girls.

Nargis's tenth class exit had arrived. Nargis got the highest marks in her class. Nargis happily came home and narrated this news to Sarfaraz. On hearing this news, Sarfaraz was not blown away. He jumped with joy and distributed sweets in the whole village. Sarfaraz lived in a village called Pahalgam. But there was a school for girls only till the tenth class. He wanted to teach Nargis further, this thing is not liked by some people of the village. Many people advised him to get Nargis married, it is not right to teach girls more. But people's words did not have any effect on Sarfaraz. So he went to live in Dabban village. There was a college for girls about three kilometers from Dabban village. Sarfaraz got Nargis admitted in that college and Sarfaraz went to live in Dabban village with all his belongings. Because Sarfaraz was a tailor, he started sewing clothes there. Sarfaraz used to run his house with whatever money he got by buying clothes and also used to bear the expenses of Nargis's education. But Sarfaraz was known throughout the village for his tailoring. Sarfaraz was no match in the clothes chest. He had to do the same magic in this village as well.

Nargis was very happy. Today was his first day of college. Nargis agreed to go to college early in the morning. Filling all her books in one office, she left for college. The first day of college became a memorable day in Nargis's life. Because that day he found a friend who would stand by him in every bad time. His name was Bhumi. Bhumi was the daughter of the village inspector. He had a brother who used to do agriculture. Nargis and Bhumi's friendship had become as if they were centuries old friends in the very first meeting. Nargis narrates the experience of her first day to her father Sarfaraz. Sarfaraz is happy because his dream was being fulfilled today. The promise he had made to his wife seemed to be slowly being fulfilled.

As soon as Nargis and Sarfaraz came to live in Dabban village, the whole village started discussing the beauty of Nargis. However, Nargis was seen only by the women of the neighborhood. Because Nargis used to wear hijab whenever she went out. But people started guessing her beauty from what her eyes could see from the hijab.

Like every day, Nargis still leaves for college. On the way, he meets Kuldeep and his friends. Kuldeep blocks her way and tries to tease her. Nargis gets shocked. As soon as Kuldeep looks into her eyes, he gets a strange feeling. He leaves the way for Nargis to go. The desire to have Nargis awakens in his mind. He thinks of achieving it in his heart. Nargis comes to the college gasping fast. Seeing her condition, Bhumi gives her water and asks her what happened to her and why she looks so nervous. Nargis narrates the whole story to him. On this Bhumi tells him that she will go with him from today. Nargis is relieved to hear this and in the evening both of them return home. Next day Bhumi comes to pick up Nargis at her house and both of them leave together.

Nargis was fond of writing poetry. She often kept a diary with her, in which she used to write her mind in a poetic style. Nargis wanted this diary of hers more than her life. However, very few people knew about this hobby of Nargis. Nargis did not like that anyone touch her diary.

There used to be a boys' college just opposite the college where Nargis studied. Darya Singh's younger son Amardeep used to study in this college. Both the colleges used to leave at the same time. One day as Nargis walks out of her college, she bumps into Amardeep. As soon as Amar looks into Nargis's eyes, he gets lost in her for a while. He just keeps looking at Nargis. A strange smile appears on his face. This has never happened with Amar before. His heart was beating fast and breathing stopped for a while. She thinks that she may have fallen in love at first sight, but Amardeep controls his emotions. Nargis holds some books in her hand which falls on the ground. Amardeep apologizes to Nargis and helps her to lift the books. Both books are available. And by mistake Nargis's diary comes with Amar's books.

At night, when Amar sits down to study, he finds a diary among his books. As soon as he opens the diary, he sees Nargis's name written on the very first page of it, he remembers that perhaps this diary is of the same girl he had bumped into in the morning. His heart beats fast. He thinks for a long time before turning the next page. He feels that it is not right to read someone's book without such permission. He tries hard to explain his heart. But because he falls in love with Nargis, his heart does not agree and he turns the front page. As soon as he sees the lion written in it, he understands the meaning of life. Nargis's thinking deeply affects her heart and she is very much interested to study further. He reads Nargis's diary till late at night. After studying for a long time, he is not able to get up in the morning on college time and he misses college. When the river comes to wake Amar in the morning, he sees a book in Amar's hand, which Amar fell asleep while reading. Because Daria Singh was illiterate, he keeps this book aside as a common book. And awakens Amar from his sleep. Amar remembers that he had to return Nargis's diary. But now it is too late. Amar reads the diary all day. As he goes through the diary, he becomes more interested in knowing about Nargis. He falls in love with Nargis. By evening, Amar reads the entire diary. Here Nargis finds her diary. She asks all her friends about the diary. But no one knows anything about the diary. Nargis is in bad shape here. Nargis gets very upset at the thought of where the diary she loves more than her life can suddenly go to. She asks Sarfaraz about the diary. He finds disappointment there too. Nargis scatters all her belongings. Everywhere she tries to find the diary. But he cannot find his diary anywhere. When Amar goes to sleep at night, the same thought keeps swirling in his mind. The lions written by Nargis keep roaming in her mind again and again. Every single word written in it keeps swirling in his mind. He is very much infatuated with Nargis's thoughts. Whenever he thinks of Nargis, a strange smile comes on his face and a strange comfort comes. He realizes his love for Nargis. Perhaps Amar has also fallen in love at first sight.
