Matilda's POV:
I was worried that the two would start fighting because the atmosphere between them was very tense. But the good news was that the potential fight was over when someone approached. He nodded politely at us and quickly stepped back out of our sight.
He seemed to wake up suddenly, looked at me deeply, and then turned away.
Who is he?
He looked at me as if he were looking at a prey.
He wants to possess me, I know.
I let out a long sigh of relief, but there was also a hint of disappointment. 'Moon Goddess! Matilda, what are you thinking about all day long!'
"Are you alright, babe?" Gray's voice brought me back to reality very quickly.
I hugged him. "I'm fine. I'm just a little scared. I wonder who that person was just now?"
"Who else could it be? It must be those high and mighty Valet Pack egomaniacs. They're all so rude and impolite. This time, many wolves without a mate will come. It's disgusting." Gray's childish words made me laugh. It had been a long time since he had complained like this.
"Alright, it's fine. It's just a short trip. Nothing will happen." Just a moment ago, Gray was comforting me. Now, that had suddenly reversed.
Gray hugged me dejectedly like a child who had done something wrong. "I know, Matilda. I know. I feel very uneasy."
As I was about to console him, I realized it was almost noon. The Valet Pack had arrived. I should go look for my father. It would make me feel terrible if I didn't do what I had promised.
"Oh no! What time is it now? I'm going to find my father. Don't worry! Everything will be fine!" I kissed Gray as if to comfort him and, in a way, comfort myself.
I soon forgot how Gray was waving at me. I ran with all my strength, and only the sound of the wind whipped at my ears.
Maybe everything would be fine. Maybe.
When I arrived, it was not as crowded as I had imagined. Everything was quiet. I knocked on the door and opened it a crack without waiting for an answer. The strong, mind-numbing smell rushed out, and I held my head as my mind was completely overwhelmed by the alluring scent. How could there be such a pleasant smell in the world? I couldn't wait to enter. I wanted to feel the extreme pleasure and pain brought by this intense fragrance.
"You may leave now. Wait for me in the dining room." My father's voice was cold and dignified. This was his voice when he was an Alpha.
I shrugged and was about to leave. In front of outsiders, I would follow all of my father's orders.
"Forget it, come in." My father changed his mind again.
This change would never happen. He never changed his decision.
This made me increasingly curious about the person inside. That person made my father overturn his decision.
I walked in. The moment I entered the room, I was enveloped by the rich fragrance inside. In front of my father stood a man. His bright blue eyes were staring at me. It was the stranger I had just met! I couldn't move. I froze at the door. He revealed a faint smile. His already charming face became even more vivid.
It took me a lot of effort to focus on what my father was saying.
"Matilda, this is Alpha Baron of the Valet Pack."
Baron! Was this the legendary Alpha who received the Moon Goddess' blessing?! This man with blood on his hands, who was about to devour our pack? I should be furious and disgusted by him, but my body was urging me to hug him, kiss his statue-like cheek, and melt in his arms.
Oh! If I had known I would meet him today, maybe I would have at least changed into a ladylike dress. At least I wouldn't be wearing the all-black training uniform I hated the most. Moreover, my hair was a mess. Today was truly an annoying day!
I placed my hand on my father's table. The strong scent made my legs go weak. He still didn't look at me.
I forced myself to shift my attention to my father's face. Although he tried his best to put on an expressionless face, the combination of pain, sadness, and hesitation still caused his face to be slightly pinched. He paused. "This is my daughter."
My father circled me, his eyes showing a struggle. "At the same time, she is also my Beta. She is a brave warrior."
I secretly gazed at Alpha Barron. I did not expect to meet his gaze.
He was also looking at me! My brain was overwhelmed by the joy that kept surging up.
"Hello, Matilda." His voice was low and filled with an authority that could not be brushed off.
I was stunned before I hurriedly shook his slender hand. His palm was extremely hot, like a ball of flame that almost set me on fire.
"Hello, Alpha Barron. Welcome to the Stan Pack. I hope you'll have a good time here," I'm conflicted. I should hate Valet Pack's alpha, but right now I'm craving him!
