Yang Ran left the cemetery and hopped into the taxi again.
After giving her address, she took out a handheld mirror and started to work on her makeup.
The taxi driver watched her action through the rear mirror with great interest.
This should be a scene that he often watched. The women would always look in the mirror to touch up their make-up.
But what he was seeing right now was not something that he often saw. The woman who was wearing light makeup earlier had changed into someone he could not recognize.
If it was not because he had watched her hop into his car and kept his eyes on her, the taxi driver would really think that the person in his car was two different people.
Yang Ran looked at her reflection in the mirror again for one last time. Seeing that they almost reached their destination, Yang Ran finally put down the mirror in her hand. Her now blue eyes met with the taxi driver in the mirror.
Seeing that the middle-aged man was looking at her, Yang Ran flashed him a smile.
The taxi finally pulled over at her destination.
Taking out her phone, Yang Ran scanned the code to complete her payment.
The taxi driver glanced at the quiet road and hesitated. "Young Miss, should I be waiting for you until you're done?"
Yang Ran was about to alight from the car when she heard the man's words. She paused to think about it and shook her head. "There's no need. My friend will send me back." She stepped out of the car and looked at the building in front of her. She walked across the street and into an alley.
The taxi driver was still worried. After all, she was dropping a pretty girl in a quiet and shady place like this. However, once he could no longer see her silhouette, he finally drive away.
Yang Ran continued to look for the place that Alice had sent to her earlier.
After walking around for a bit, Yang Ran finally found the building she was looking for.
She stared at the depilated warehouse in front of her and tapped her fingers on her thigh. Her eyes were scanning her surroundings quietly and her ears perked up to listen.
Once she was sure that everything around her was safe, Yang Ran finally entered the building. A few faces she was familiar with appeared in front of her the moment she stepped in.
The two men stood up immediately and greeted her. "Rachel." One was a middle-aged man with a buzz-cut, and another was a thin man with slightly curled hair.
"Bruce, Aiden. You guys are here." Her gaze finally stopped at the middle-aged man with the buzz-cut hair.
The man did not wait for a long time to explain. "I checked the surrounding," Bruce said. "Don't worry. This place is safe. No one would come over to this warehouse."
"You didn't run into any problem when you bring him here?"
"He didn't want to cooperate, of course," Bruce said with a shrug. "He kept shouting that he was innocent. So we knocked him out and bring him here."
She looked around the place and finally noticed that there were still a few people that she did not see. "Where are the others?"
"Alice and Melvin are upstairs to check on that person."
Yang Ran nodded. She could already guess what the two others are up to. "Then, let's go over and meet everyone."
The two men followed her lead and headed upstairs. As they reached closer, they could hear the loud muffled scream as well as the rattling chains.
As for what was that person screaming about, no one seemed to understand his words as his mouth seemed to be blocked by something.
Yang Ran finally stopped in front of the door. After contemplating for a second, she finally pushed the door open. As she walked into the room, the noise stopped immediately.
A few pairs of eyes turned to the door. Yang Ran scanned the surroundings and finally, her gaze stopped at the man disheveled man in front of her. He was half-naked and his body was full of dirt. His mouth was blocked with a ball of clothes and his hands were shackled to a chain in the wall.
Her lips gradually turned into a wide smile. Even with the man's current appearance, Yang Ran could recognize him well.
"Mmmph!" The man's words were muffled, but Yang Ran could hear him calling her name. His eyes wandered around the room to look at everyone present in the room. It was then that he realized that the people in front of him were the higher-ups in the organization.
"Ed. I'm so glad that you did not forget about me." Yang Ran chuckled.
Seeing her smiling made him shiver. The man wanted to retreat, but he with his hands chained to the walls, he could not go anywhere.
"Ed," Yang Ran walked closer to him. "Don't tell me that you did not expect to see me here?"
The man called Ed made a few noises through his mouth and nose.
Yang Ran squatted in front of him and cupped both hands on her cheek. She was watching that man as if she was a child, looking at some sort of entertainment with great interest.
The man finally stopped making noises. He seemed to understand that no matter what he do, the woman would not be listening to him.
"You should have seen this coming when you betray us, Ed." Yang Ran laughed, sensing that the man had given up on his life. "You know very well that I don't tolerate betrayers." She stretched her hand to touch the wounds on his skin and put on a bit of force, causing the man to flinch. "Do you know how many had died because of you?"
Yang Ran raised her head to look at him. The glint in her eyes changed. The murderous air around her made others shiver.
At this time, Aiden walked over with a knife in his hand.
Yang Ran took the knife and started to press the blade on Ed's skin.
Beads of sweats were on the man's forehead. Since he could not speak clearly, the man continued to shake his head as if he wanted to tell her that he had not done any crime.
His action and denial only made Yang Ran grow angrier. After a while, she finally threw the bloodied knife on the ground. Then, she stood up and turned around. Yang Ran turned to Bruce and waved her hand, signaling the man to do something.
Ed started to shiver. He closed his eyes, waiting for the man to kill him. However, to his surprise, Bruce only stepped forward to pull the clothes into his mouth. He looked at Yang Ran for a long time, wondering what she planned to do.
Noticing that the woman did not move for a long time, Ed finally figured out what she was doing.
"It wasn't me!" Ed spoke quickly. "Rachel, I swear to God, it wasn't me. I did not betray you or my brothers."
He saw that Yang Ran did not speak for a long time and knew that he was given the chance to explain himself.
"Bullshit." This time, it was Melvin who had spoken. "We have evidence that it was you who leaked the mission to others. Someone saw you talking to Mr. Carlos, Ed."
"I did speak to him, but it was not to leak the mission," Ed spoke quickly. He quickly recalled the day he had spoken to that old man. "On that day, Mr. Carlos was asking me some trivial stuff. You have to believe me." A glint appeared in his eyes as he seemed to think of something. "Rachel! I was set up."
Melvin grew angrier as he listened to Ed's words. "If you are not guilty, then why didn't you return to the base and explain yourself?"
Ed stared at the man and choked.
After their mission had failed, he wanted to return. However, when he heard that he was blamed for the failed mission, Ed decided to stay out. He heard that they were after his life. He did not want to die and decided not to return.
It was a mistake. He made a mistake. Ed knew now that he shouldn't be afraid and return to explain himself.
"Rachel, we have already seen evidence," Alice finally spoke after a long time. "I don't think that we need to listen to his excuses anymore."
Ed started to panic and spouted more words to defend himself.
Noticing that the others were looking at her, Yang Ran finally let out a sigh. Since everyone had decided, then they should act fast and return to their base.
She turned to Aiden and waved her hand.
His eyes widened. The warehouse turned quiet again when Ed finally realized that Aiden was pointing his gun at him.
"Goodbye, Ed," Aiden whispered. His finger on the trigger moved and soon, everything around them turned silent.
