The office stood in an isolated hall. Silence there was overwhelming. June liked silence, but she preferred working with people. For just a second she thought that Mr. Firestorm was going to walk behind the door.
'Please, marry my son', said the old man when they first met. Back then she thought he was crazy now she just missed him. Mr. Firestorm rescued her from her misery. In a short time she loved him as a father.
June froze at the door. She raised a hand ready to knock, but couldn't move. She was the coward, not Aiden. She placed an ear close to the door and listened closely. No sound. She sighed. The office was empty.
Exhausted, she let herself fall on the floor and leaned against the wall. She needed to rest. Her head was spinning, she hadn't seen her mom for almost four years, she could not travel due to her illness, and June was busy working.
She needed to see her mom, but she was stock in England. 'What if her mother died?' The treatment for her mother was expensive, and she had to pay for a 24/h babysitter.
Her mother was her only family, June didn't have any other relatives, such as an uncle, or a cousin. She never met her father, and her grandparents died in a car accident when her mother finished school.
June took out her phone and searched for a book. It's been a long time since she read. She tried to focus on the reading, but she couldn't stop thinking. She missed Mr. Firestorm. She cried without even knowing and hugged her legs like a baby.
She felt weak. June had a hunch about Mr. Firestorm's death. It was suspicious the way he died.
"Your crying is annoying...." mumble a voice in her ear.
A chill ran down her body.
"…... Ah!"
Her phone slipped from her hands and hit the ground. She placed a hand close to heart. It was too soon to be haunted by Mr. White ghost. However, when she turned her head she saw a handsome boy; he had dark hair and eyes just as dark as his hair. His facial features were unusual, he looked like young Mr. Firestorm with a mixture of asian features. The young man leaned next to her and looked at her with anger.
It was the new CEO.
"...I apologized" , said June while trying to catch her breath, "I thought... no one was here."
Aiden Firestorm stood up. "Don't you knock?"
"...."
"What are you waiting for?" Aiden holded the door for her to enter.
June jumped from her seat. She picked up her phone and looked for scratches; the screen was clean. After that, she entered the office. Just as she expected Aiden and his older brother were too alike. The place hadn't changed a bit, the white walls and black furniture show balance.
She saw three objects at the desk: a pedulum, a pen, and a picture. She knew Aiden had just arrived, however the word ' I'm organized, ' was written all over the place. Mr. Firestorm was also very organized, but he used to place a strange object at his office, like a clown teddy bear, for example. He had a strange sense of humor.
Elian Firestorm had no sense of humor, his brother seemed to be the same. June felt miserable. Aiden was not her type. At least none of them had the power to fire her.
"Listen", Aiden said looking at his computer as if work was more important, "I don't need an assistant. I'm afraid that you should leave. Unless you can do more than serve coffee….."
June dropped her mouth. Aiden Firestorm couldn't reason with people. If he ever fired someone, bad rumors about him and the company would spread out. Mr. Firestorm hated rumors about his children, yet they were not capable of making people like them.
'The key to success is hidden among human connections', said Mr. Firestorm once. She agreed.
June sat in front of the desk. She looked at a gold badge: Aiden Firestorm, she read. Her eyes danced until she reached a silver pendulum, she lifted the first ball and let it go.
"Clack... clack... clack..."
Aiden looked at her, irritated.
She smiled. "You can't fire me...."
"What...?"
"By the way, you shouldn't fire people like that." She crossed one leg.
"Do you know who I am....?"
'You're a pain in the ass', she thought. "Mr. Firestorm son!" she said instead.
"That 's right. To be honest, I don't like you...." 'That makes two of us.' "Please, take your things and leave."
She raised her eyebrows. Elian and Aiden weren't too alike after all.
"Being honest is important", said she, still playing with the silver pendulum. "But you could choose different words."
"I don't like you", he repeated.
"Well, I don't like you either", June mutured, "You can't fire me. Mr. Firestorm specified it in his will. Only Mr. Blake can fire me.
Aiden holded his head with one hand and frowned, then he focused on the computer.
"We'll discuss this matter with him tomorrow morning. You can go home, come back tomorrow early in the morning."
June nod. She left the office after saying goodbye.
