Chereads / Desired By My Billionaire CEO / Chapter 20 - Twenty

Chapter 20 - Twenty

Carl has never step a foot inside my trailer park and it was not even because of any reason that may actually be reasonable to me or anybody else, he usually walked me to the gate of the trailer park and he would just turn away and go back home, whenever I invited him over he would usually say that he was out of time or for one stupid reason or the other but he couldn't fool me with his weak lies; the main reason why he never crosses the gate of the trailer park was because the place was too dirty for his standards. Carl couldn't hide his irritation and he even made an insensitive comment about the way the place is dilapidated, I acted as if I didn't hear him but I never forgot the words that he said, I figured that it was best not to invite him in the first place.

"Carl!! What are you doing here?" it was already late so I was not expecting any other person to show up other than the neighbors

"Why are you so surprised to see me?" Carl had changed from what I saw him wearing at the mall, this time he had taken some time to comb his hair and he was not wearing his glasses so he looked different and hot in a kind of way.

"Oh, it's just so late you know… I didn't know that you go out this late and without your glasses too?" I had to clear my curiosity and to my relief he laughed at my response.

"Of course I come out at night, earlier at the mall you told me that there was a celebration but you didn't even bother to invite me, I was anxious so I decided to come and see things for myself… as for my glasses, I only need them during the day time, at night I'm just a regular guy" he spoke with so much confidence not like the usual timid way that he talks.

"I thought that you wouldn't want to come to my trailer park, you know that you usually reject my previous invitations so I was not expecting you to come" I gave the most direct answer that I could think of and watched his reaction closely.

"For those other times, I was actually busy and I didn't have time on my hands but I was free today so here I am" the excuse that he gave was too poor and I did not fall for it one bit.

"I see, or is it because there was a celebration that made you to create time for me?" the question made him obviously nervous, his eyes roamed everywhere and I saw a momentary look of disgust come over his face when he saw one of the children use a piece of pie to smudge each other's faces.

"Stop been paranoid, what is the celebration about anyways?" Carl asked with eyes full of interest, I decided to change the topic because even if I found out the true reason behind his presence, it still wouldn't change the fact that he was here.

"Nothing really special, we do such small parties to kickstart the weekends" I gave him an answer without much information, I did not want to tell him that the party was in my honor.

"I see, such a jovial life you guys got here" that remark was filled with sarcasm and he dodged one of the running children, I suddenly felt irritated by their barbaric show of how uncivil they were.

"I know that you don't mean that, we try to make the best out of every small opportunity we have to give thanks for the small gifts that we have and the blessings we have received from our heavenly father".

"You guys are superstitious as well, good to know" I couldn't believe my ears or my eyes as I watched Carl talk to me in such sarcastic manner, I showed him to a table and I sat next to him while we got served by Lucia who was having the time of her life by playing the waitress, she had always admired my waitress job and she used to tell my mother that she would own her own restaurant one day.

"Thank you my dear Lucia, you seem happy today" Carl said to her and my sister gave him a grin but went all business on him.

"I would love to chat but table 3 and table 5 are in dire need of beer and my father sits on of those tables, so I gotta go" she did a small bow before she dashed off, Carl was dumbfounded by her seriousness with her work.

"What's with her?" he asked with a lop-sided smile, I took my time to sink in his without-glasses look because it was something to behold, I couldn't believe that he was actually my boyfriend.

"She is hyped up, that's all" I wanted him to focus on me and maybe even compliment me on how I looked but it was as if he was the only one there because he kept talking about himself which was not bad by the way but it was about his boring job.

"Oh yeah, another thing that happened to me at work today-" Carl was about to continue his raving about his job but I have had enough.

"Enough about your work, can't we talk about something else?" I was sick and tired of hearing about his slow day at the tech store.

"What? What do you mean by that?" Carl asked with a kind of voice that made me feel bad instantly but I had to make my point.

"I mean, why don't we talk about other things? For example you did not even ask me about my day at work and you know that I have a new job so-" I was about to give Carl a piece of my mind but I was interrupted by my father's drunk voice.

"LET'S WELCOME THE PERSON THAT MADE US ABLE TO PUT ALL OF THIS TOGETHER, THE WOMAN OF THE HOURRRR…. MY SWEET DAUGHTER DIANA RODRIGUEZ!!".

Everything froze as everybody broke out in a loud applause in the honor of me, I couldn't move or even breathe… I just stood there… motionless, stagnant, frozen like a statue…
