*UNKNOWN POV*
After his personal assistant left him, Julian looked out the window of his large office in a reflective mood, he was previously lost in his thoughts before he was interrupted by Diana. Few days ago Julian had received a mail from The Syndicate and they are calling out to all the rackets of both the underground and the major families spread out across America, the letter was written in red and the splurges of ink told Julian that it was hand written by the boss of The Syndicate; Mr. Zatochi Wong himself.
--------
"THIS IS TO CALL OUT ALL THE HEADS OF THE FAMILIES {BOTH MAJOR AND MINOR} TO ATTEND THE MEETING OF THE SYNDICATE THAT IS EXACTLY 14 DAYS FROM NOW… WE WOULD ALSO WELCOME THE NEW MEMBER OF OUR SYNDICATE WHO IS 'MATEO JULIAN RAMIREZ' PLEASE DO WELL TO ATTEND OTHERWISE THE CONSEQUENCES WOULD BE VERY CRITICAL".
Julian had read the mail over and over again with a thumping heart but he was not scared but just anxious about the unknown, he was never raised to fear anything not even death because his father showed him the ropes at an early age so that he would have a good insight on how to run a business and survive in the environment of billionaires, after his father's death Julian had dedicated his time into preparing for entering the underground racketeering life that he would soon be introduced to because it all came with the responsibility of taking over the family business that his father left for him to handle. In retaliation to what he saw in the mail some days ago; Julian had sent his personal assistant to send a mail to his uncle in London, Mr. Dorchester.
Mr. Dorchester was not Julian's biological relative but he was the closest person to Julian's father and he promised that if the young lad needed anything, he should just ask and the Don K family would do it for Julian without any extra charge or necessary favor in return, the mail was to inform Dorchester about the meeting that was fast approaching, Julian needed some protection and because of the anonymity of his father's assassin it was hard to ask the nearby families or even trust anybody at this point. Julian wanted some space to think and that was the major reason why he gave Diana the weekend off, he couldn't have her taking his calls at such a crucial moment in his life. Felix knocked on the door and Julian answered before the grinning best friend entered the office.
"I was hoping that I would run into your sexy P.A when I got here but she is nowhere to be found" Felix said as he entered the office, he shook hands with Julian and they sat opposite each other to discuss.
"I sent her home early, I needed some time alone to clear my head about some things that have been bugging me lately" Julian unbuttoned his shirt a little way down and he heaved a tired sigh.
"Shame that I didn't get to see her before she left, what is the thing that has been bugging the mind of the newest CEO in town?" Felix asked him casually, he was getting used to the fact that his friend was a company owner that deserved every respect handed to him.
"The Syndicate has called for a meeting and I have to attend…" Julian was about to say the reason why he had to attend but Felix had already stated his query.
"Why do you have to attend? Send a delegate over to just…" Felix was about to suggest to Julian ways that he could skip the meeting but there was no way that it was going to happen.
"The meeting is also my induction into The Syndicate, I can't miss my own induction" Julian said adamantly, the boss of the syndicate was not going to ever take him serious if he doesn't show up.
"That's true but what if the assassin comes to the induction? How are you going to defend yourself?" Felix was concerned about the life of his friend, he was aware of the fact that his friend was involved in the underground racket.
"I sent a mail to the head of the Don K family, Mr. Dorchester would be more than pleased to provide protection for me and I am also moving around with my gun just in case" Julian was not afraid but he was very precautious, he was thinking ahead of the situation in front of him.
"I am scared for you, this underground business is usually involved with killers and gangbangers, some of them are even unpaid thugs that are looking for handouts or anybody that they can rob or blackmail" Felix did not know much about the kind of world that was going on underground but he was aware of the dangers.
"It is an induction and I am not sure that the assassin would want to attempt anything in such a crowded place, I am even more wary about the boss of the syndicate himself… he pointed it out that he wanted to see me personally but I don't have any high hopes about the meeting" Julian said deep in thoughts, he had seen another note attached to the mail and that one was a message from Zatochi himself and it had said that Julian had a talk with Zatochi Wong, the note had made him jittery and that was the reason why he was restless ever since.
"I am glad that you are going to have protection when you go to that meeting, but don't you think that we should at least go to the police station to check if they have found something relating to your father's murder? I mean, it's weird if you don't go and see the detective after all these while".
"What good would the police do? They will just beat around the bush and come up with 'suspects'… I am not looking for suspects, I want to see the murderer and kill him with my bare hands or he shall die by my gun" Julian said with so much passion in his voice, he was still enraged but he had managed to keep his feelings in check ever since but he was slowly getting to the end of his patience and sanity. Even though he had lost faith in the work of the police department; Julian still followed Felix to the police station to talk to the detective that was working on the murder case.
