Chereads / Desired By My Billionaire CEO / Chapter 12 - Twelve

Chapter 12 - Twelve

*DIANA*

I was filled with anxiety because I had not directly angered Julian before, I saw the way he had spoken to his mother and it was not a memorable sight to see, Raymond drove at a very calm speed and I started to wish that I had teleportation abilities so that I could just disappear and see myself at the office in a jiffy but wishes didn't grow on the trees. I contemplated starting a conversation with Raymond but I already knew how that was going to end, Raymond only speaks whenever he was spoken to and if I tried to become over-friendly- he would go mute as if he was a robot incapable of speaking.

As the car approached the big building where I worked, I suddenly thought about Olivia my best-friend whom I worked with at the restaurant before I got this job, I had not told her about my new job and it was weird that Carl had found out before she did, Olivia has been through it all with me right from high-school and she was the only one that I had to comfort me when I had lost my mother in the accident, it was quite unfair of me to keep such information from her and she might probably get mad at me but I was determined to go and see her after I closed from work.

"Here we are, ma'am." Raymond said with a smile, he was enjoying my jittery actions as I fumbled for my bag and any other thing that I may need even though I was sure that everything was inside my bag.

"Thank you so much, I don't know what I would have done-" I was about to enter into a long speech about my thanks but he just burst out into laughter, which surprised me because I thought that he could not do that.

"You are the only person that I have seen give gratitude to a driver for just doing his job." he said in laughter, I was glad to have made him laugh like that and I felt like amusing him a bit more but I had other pressing matters to attend to.

"I give thanks to people who do their job well, is there anything wrong with that?" I asked him as I got down from the car.

"You are quite strange in a good way, better head inside before the boss comes outside to get you." he gave me a small salute before he drove off with a grin on his face, I took in a deep breath before I walked in through the doors that were beginning to look like the gates of hell, I entered the reception that was bustling with people carrying papers here and there or just loitering around the reception.

I had not checked my watch ever since I had left the house but as I was in the solace of the elevator I looked at my watch to see that it was half-past eight, I was supposed to have gotten here at least twenty minutes before now.

'Oh shoot! I am even in more trouble than I thought.'' I lamented as the elevator door opened and I walked on shaky, unstable legs until I was in front of the CEO's door.

I knocked gently but there was no reply so I had to do it again and this time I heard a grunt that sounded like 'come in'.

"Good morning, sir… I am really sorry for-" Julian put his index finger in the air and I shut my mouth instantly, he was wearing a black suit that made his white skin look even more pale like a vampire's, his gray eyes were piercing through my soul as if they were his orbs for seeking the truth out of a person.

"I have no time to scold you at the moment, right now I need you to go and deliver this envelope to the post office and you have to be back here as soon as possible, do you understand me?" he was bringing out an envelope out of his desk drawer, he was not sounding upset so I figured that he must have calmed himself down before I entered the office.

"Yes, sir… who is the envelope for?" I was not supposed to pry but I've always had an inquisitive mind ever since I was a child.

"It is for a close friend of my father's and also an affiliate of this company, Mr. Dorchester." He stopped talking as if he realized that he had said too much and he continued with whatever he was doing on his computer.

I took the envelope and I went straight to the post office to send the letter which was bound for London, I knew that I was supposed to go back to the office but I kept thinking about Olivia and how she must have been feeling because this was the second day of my new job so she must have been puzzling over my absence. I told my cab to take me to Greg's restaurant so that I could get a feel of the place one more time and so that I could finally explain to Olivia why I had not been at work for the past few days, I opened the doors of the small restaurant and I was instantly engulfed by the buzz of the whole place, waiters and waitresses in their red uniforms bustled around with food trays or empty ones, the whole place was filled with chattering people, I looked around and I was quite astonished at the fact that I actually used to work here some days ago and like the waitresses; I was also handling orders at such speed.

"Hey, excuse me. I am looking for Olivia, do you know where I can find her?" I asked a waiter that looked like a newbie, if I had approached the others; they would have recognized me.

"She is in the kitchen but staff are not allowed in there, should I go and call her for you?" the young teenager with bright eyes asked me and I shook my head politely, I was still considered a staff until I had officially dropped my resignation letter.

I entered the kitchen area and I got shocked expressions from the kitchen staff.

I put a finger on my lips to tell them to keep it quiet because I knew how much Mr. Greg hated noise in the kitchen. I saw Olivia doing the dishes with so much ferocity that I had to smile, I snuck up behind her and I put my hands over her eyes.
