*DIANA*
I entered into his not too shabby office and I took a seat in the chair that faced his desk, I looked round the walls of the office and I was immediately filled with the feeling of nostalgia because the pictures on the wall had multiple framed photographs of different important memories, ranging from the time before I started working here to the first time that me and Olivia won the 'Employee Of The Month' award as a tie so they had to put the both of us in one framed picture and the smile on our faces was so original that it made me to smile almost as wide as the one on our faces. My reminiscing was cut short by the waited arrival of Mr. Gregg, I quickly rearranged myself and I prepared my speech that I had been rehearsing in my head ever since.
"The prodigal one, why didn't you come down here to give me your resignation letter before you zoomed off to your new job?" he said the word 'Job' with so much hate in his voice and he used a lot of sarcasm behind it.
"I was still new to the job so I was not allowed to go out within the first two days, I was stuck in the office and if it's not there then I will be at the mansion-" Mr. Gregg got infuriated by my explanation, I was not surprised though… it had been my intent from the very beginning.
"Enough with all this 'Rich Talk' and listen very closely to the next words that I am going to tell you" I kept my mouth shut and I froze in my seat.
"Since you felt like you were too big to come and drop a resignation letter, let me tell you about the consequences of your action, I am going to fine you with a sum of $2500 and because I am a very considerate boss, you can choose the instalment payment method and I am not going to bother you about it until you receive your 'Fat Cheque' from your new boss…" Mr. Gregg sat back in his chair and he laced his fingers together while he stared at me with an almost cynical smile, I was beyond dumbstruck by his words.
"How is that even possible?" I managed to ask after I found my voice at last.
"I can show you in the legal papers, I am sure your boss would understand what I am talking about if only the P.A arrange a meeting for us to meet and we would talk about it like the true business-men that we are… who knows? Maybe I can even show him my contracting plans for my chain of restaurants around New York" I instantly got a whiff of his ploy so I shook my head in a negative response, he was trying to use his position in my life to capitalize on me and my new job.
"My boss is very busy and he is not in the city right now, maybe some other time" I lied to him and I checked my watch to show him that I was running late.
"No worries, that can be arranged whenever the P.A deems fit. You seem to be in a hurry?" he asked me and I nodded my head in affirmation.
"Yes I am, and I would be back some other time to talk to Olivia" I said as I go up from the much too comfortable chair.
"You can always come back anytime and my doors are always open for my esteemed customers" Mr. Gregg spread his hands as he said those words, I walked out of the office with a fake smile and as soon as I stepped out of those doors, I went in search of Olivia. I entered the kitchen area to see her standing in front of the oven with the baker but she was not helping him, she was scowling at me from where she stood.
"Olivia, please let me explain" I called out to her as I walked towards where she stood, to my amusement I was blocked by three other staffs that knew me very well.
"Non staffs are not allowed in the kitchen area" one of them called Jordan said in a gruffly tone with his hand in front of me as a barricade.
"I just want to talk to Olivia" I tried to explain my reason for coming but they didn't budge, I began to wonder what had gotten over them all of a sudden.
"Come back after closing hours" Jordan said in the same tone that he had used before. I saw no point in trying because Olivia was watching all of this happen to me without saying anything, she just scowled at me and I held her gaze for a few seconds before I turned to leave with the little dignity that I had left.
"Traitor" Jordan said to the rest of them.
"Betrayer".
"How could she do such a thing to her own best-friend?" I could hear their whispers loud and clear as I exited the kitchen, it was obvious that Olivia had already told them her side of the story and being her co-workers, I am not going to judge them for taking her side within such a short amount of time. I was the one who messed up and one way or the other I had to find a way to work things out with Olivia.
I saw Mr. Gregg as I was going through the main hall, he waved me as I left and this time I was too strained to even fake the smile this time around, I just wanted to get away from everybody and everything, I needed to be alone and to think about a lot of things which included paying Mr. Gregg the ambiguous amount of money that he fined me. I hailed a cab and I told the driver my destination, I looked outside of the window to stare at the large signs that were on displayed on the big buildings round New York city.
