To put it lightly the Chasm was a hellhole. It literally went so deep that it reached the afterlife of the world where souls were cleansed of Karma and their memories.
But funny thing about Teyvat. Whoever created it and its reincarnation system didn't account for all the gods and supernatural species doing their best to wipe themselves out during the Archon War and the fall of Khaenri'ah.
To put lightly the countless powerful souls consisting of gods and long-lived supernatural entities like Oni's Kitsune's, had clogged up the pipes so to speak and what happened to all those souls that were trapped in the underworld unable to be processed?
They became wraiths trapped within the wards that the Yaksha Bosacious and Yelan ancestors
sealed away the entrance to the underworld from the Chasm.
Seeing us fleeing their own cage with a magical platform that Yelan's ancestor left behind before he died, literally tens of thousands ghosts and spirits attempted to steal our bodies. kill us, or just hitch a ride.
Then once we got out apparently even from across Liyue Hu Tao could feel our spiritual taint and we had to do with a nasty ritual consisting of drinking dogs' blood and a bunch more disgusting stuff to clear out the spiritual damage all the ghosts did to us at the behest of Hu Tao.
"Fuck the chasm and all those fucking rotten souls!" I spat, mentally just fucking done with adventuring as even Lumine with her restless Traveler nature firmly said we were going to take a break and, in her case, she wanted to literally spend the next couple months minimum working on our Serenitea Pot, basically building it from the ground up while I am not wanting to literally watch paint dry like she did, I decided to go back to Mondstadt after the stress of Inazuma and then the events of the Chasm.
Despite our adventures in Liyue and Inazuma I still felt more at home in Mondstadt as its European theme was a lot more akin to American culture.
But as I was flying over the Dragonspine Mountain I saw something that made me frown and quickly fly downwards.
"Kid are you alright!" I yelled seeing a girl with very light blonde hair and for a moment I thought it was Klee before noticed the much lighter hair tone, but I still was panicking seeing the child all huddled up beside a tiny fire in a cave.
The girl lethargically looked at me, and her eyes were rather dull, to be honest. "Hey, you alright?" I asked as I slowly approached the girl but froze as her appearance registered with me even if the Pyro vision loosely tied onto some rags the girl was wearing.
The little girl was Signora or maybe the woman's child? No with her history and loss of her husband that made her abandon her body to become liquid flames, she wouldn't take another man for a husband... But then did she survive the Raiden Shogun attack by reforming her remains into this child?
"Who are you? Do you want to hurt me too?" The girl asked tiredly as a bit of life came to her eyes as she seemingly registered my presence.
Seeing as she honestly didn't seem to recognize me at all despite us playing a major part in her prior 'death' I lowered my guard a bit before I took off my thick Schnee jacket. "Here kid wear this. You must be freezing." I said as I moved around the girl even as she weakly attempted to push my jacket off her.
But she was literally so weak that she was unable to shrug her shoulders hard enough to push off my oversized jacket and soon enough her meager struggles to throw it off faded as she sighed in comfort from the residue of body heat it was carrying.
"What's your name?" I asked as I took over caring for the flames and added some sticks that were outside the cave and fueled the flames with a small jet of Anemo winds that energized the flames.
"I don't remember... When those adults on the other side of the mountain learnt that I had no name they wanted to sell me, and I knew I had to run. Why don't I have a name, sir?" She asked weakly as I moved her closer to the fire and began feeding her some warm food that I had in my space bag.
Those people she mentioned were probably Treasure Hoarders and I wasn't surprised they would stoop to human trafficking with all their other crimes.
After a moment of silence as I provided the clearly freezing girl some much-needed warmth with some hot soup and once she finished shoveling down the food, she didn't hand me back the bowl and instead continued to cradle the hot ceramic to absorb its warmth.
For a moment I was lost as to what I should do as despite our... unfortunate meetings in our adventures regardless of those this child was blameless seeing as she had a completely new mind and a real body instead of Signora's liquid flames physique as was shown with her already having a Pyro vision.
"Look. I am going to take you to Mondstadt. I cannot leave you here in the mountains and if anything, you can fairly easily find your place there in Mondstadt." I mean another blond girl with a Pyro vision? If anything, I will need to pry Klee off her with a crowbar when she learns she has what amounts to be being a little sister running around.
'Jean will probably have an aneurism if another Klee begins wreaking havoc though... This is going to be hilarious.' I thought before my idea became firmly rooted and I realized playing house and taking care of a child should relieve me of my adventuring stress just like how Lumine was playing house in the Serenitea Pot.
"What is your name?" She finally asked after I basically decided to take her to Mondstadt.
"My name is Jake Barris though sometimes I use the last name Schnee for certain people." It turns out using a vaguely Russian-sounding last name while having white hair, and a snowflake on your back as a house emblem, basically made traveling Sneznahyan people think I was one of their own people.
"Can I have... No can you please give me a name sir?" The younger form of Signora asked her looking up at me with unmistakable hope within her eyes.
For a brief moment I thought about giving her a new name, but should she ever regain her memories I hoped people showing some kindness would go to heal some of her old issues. "Your name will be Signora," I said patting the girl on her head and gently pulled the hood of my large hood that I had at some point added to my jacket as I was tired of being rained on in our travels.
"Now let me get you to Mondstadt. I have a couple of friends who will just love having friends their own age to play with." Diona the catgirl and Klee will get along with her easily with them all having visions despite their personality differences.
--- Little did I know I was unleashing a walking fiery bundle of attachment issues onto Teyvat who would learn from Klee that enough fire and explosives can solve literally any problem if you put enough of both into the problem. ---
After we landed in Mondstadt I obviously took Signora to get some new clothes from the nice seamstress who made a lot of the wealthier adventures their flamboyant and more importantly durable clothes that people like Fischl wore.
Once Signora was no longer in literal rags, I decided to take her to Jean in order to read her in and to possibly introduce Signora to Klee.
Even as we walked into the Knights of Favonius headquarters Signora was showing her dependence on me as she was firmly holding my hand with her much smaller childish hand but before we could enter the Knights building from the side of the castle-designed building Klee herself ran out laughing as she saw me.
"Heya Jake... Who is this?" She asked curiously as she noticed Signora who was on the other side of me and was now hugging my hip with her free arm as she shyly hid her face from Klee.
I smile and after gently moving Signora away a bit I kneeled down in front of the two girls. "Klee this is Signora. She is a girl who lost her memories when she was abandoned in the Dragonspine Mountains. Can you please be her friend you would obviously be her best friend if you became her first friend." I said pulling Signora who was clad in colors mirroring my own blue and white themed outfit but with more lace and a skirt.
Klee bit her lip as she looked at Signora and back to me before her eyes lasered in on the Pyro vision that was attached to her shoulder patch that bore my own Schnee emblem.
"Sure! Did you need to go talk to Master Jean? If so, I can play with Signora for a bit while you go in?" Klee said helpfully as she came closer to Signora and took her hand, practically already claiming her as a little sister as the elfish girl was a bit taller than Signora.
I patted Klee on her hat-covered head making her giggle in delight. " Klee is such a smart young lady. Yes, I need to go talk to Master Jean for a bit so I will leave Signora in your hands." I then held Signora by her shoulders as I whispered to her. "Don't burn down Mondstadt with Klee." Then I stood up and left the two young girls to socialize in front of the Knights Headquarters.
