Chapter 19 - The bounty

"What?! One hundred thousand crownies?!"

"That's right, we will give one hundred thousand crownies as rewards to those who can tell us the whereabouts of that person!"

After hearing the offer, the village center was enveloped with enthusiastic comments coming from those people who gathered around.

"Wow! That's a very big amount!"

"Friends! That sum of money will be a lot of help to buy good quality items and equipment!"

The person in the middle of the five slightly narrowed his eyes.

"Of course, if you have that many crownies, you don't need to waste your time grinding on the map. You can easily buy better equipment and become strong right off the bat. You don't need to feel scared with those mid-ranked monsters roaming around this area," said the member of Red Phantom.

"Exactly! It's a shortcut to becoming stronger!"

Around this time, Ranz forced his way into the noisy crowd.

He looked in front and saw the familiar people from a while ago. They were the members of the Red Phantom guild. Of 20 of them, there were only five of them around. Ranz wondered where the other members went. He also could not spot those two who led the group.

At the back of those five, their wolf-type mounts were lying in wait.

He looked around and saw that everyone was seemingly excited, conversing about the reward.

Ranz looked at the person beside him. He was of the human race. He noticed a bow and a quiver hanging on the person's back. And he was wearing a light version of Iron Armor.

He slightly tugged him and he asked. "Hey, bro, what's up with here?" He asked him.

The person looked at him a bit surprised, though that only lasted for a second. He pointed to the front using his snout while saying, "Those people at the front will give a huge amount of crownies to those who can tell them the whereabouts of a certain person."

Ranz's eyebrows knitted without him noticing. He felt a bad feeling about this for some reason.

"Who is the person they are looking for?" He asked with a slight frown.

"Oh, about that. They have yet to tell."

After hearing his reply, they heard a shout from someone among the crowd.

"Tell us! Who is the person you guys are searching for?"

There was a slight delay before everyone also shouted, asking who was the person they were looking for.

"Right, tell us who?"

"Come on! Tell us!"

One after another, most people in the area started to question as excitement grew apparent on their faces.

Just like the others around, Ranz also was curious about it. That's why he waited.

Before answering, the spokesperson of those five rolled his eyes at everyone while raising a hand in the air, indicating all the players around to calm down.

Seeing his raised hand, the noise was gradually disappearing. He just then opened his mouth when the noise finally died down.

With a stern voice, he announced. "Listen! We are looking for a player whose in-game name is Jack No Ripper!"

Ranz's eyes widened when he heard it. The way that person pronounced that name, was exactly how Ranz's IGN was written. There was no doubt about it. He was the person they were looking for!

Another series of buzzing whispers could be heard around.

"Jack No Ripper? Who's that?"

"Wait, that name sounds familiar."

"Yeah. I also feel like I heard it somewhere."

At that moment, a player suddenly raised his voice to get everyone's attention.

"Wait a minute!"

One by one the people around looked at him. When everyone's attention was on him, he immediately said, "I have a friend his IGN is Reaper Jack! Maybe he's the one you're looking?"

Ranz stopped his attempt to leave when he heard this unexpected question.

"Dumbass! Are you deaf?! I said Jack No Ripper, not something else!" Losing his composure, the Spokesman of Red Phantom Guild said his reply with a twitching brow.

"Tsk! brainless noob!" His companion beside him muttered those words.

"Jack no ripper... Isn't he the one who has achieved a special mission not long ago?" This whisper from someone within the crowd serves as the trigger.

"Oh! I remember now. It was him."

"Jack no ripper, huh. By the way, why are you guys searching for him?"

"That person did an unforgivable sin to our guild!"

"But he might be an OP player, no? He even achieved a special mission."

"Heh! We don't care how OP he was. In the face of our Red Phantom Guild, everyone is just an ant!"

"Red Phantom?"

"Wait! They are the Red Phantom?"

"Eh? What? Is there anything special about this Red Phantom?" Someone mumbled while knitting his brows.

When the person beside him heard his mumble, he barked at him. "Fool! Y-You don't know about them? They are one of the strongest guilds on this server! I said server, not just continents! Now, do you understand?"

"I-is that so?"

"I also heard some bad rumors about them."

*Gulp!*

"By the way, why are you guys searching for that person here? This is just a small village. I don't think such a strong player would wander in this place."

"Agree. You may find him in the big cities!"

The spokesman replied with twitching brows. "Because that person killed our brother in this goddamn village!!!" He screamed angrily.

"….."

Everyone trembled from that scream.

At this moment, Ranz already distanced himself from the crowd. There was no point in staying there longer. He was certain now that those people were looking for him.

It was just, that he was baffled as to why and how he became the target of such a notorious guild.

Ranz wandered around the village.

As he was walking, he noticed a hanging cloth outside a wooden house. He glanced left and right. When he noticed no one around, he sneakily stole it, then used the cloth to hide his face.

'Judging from their investigation, it's right to assume that they had yet to know my face. In this case, I'm safe as long as they can't identify me.'

"Now, what should I do?"

Ranz sighed. "They even put a bounty on my head." He looked dejected.

"I think I need a plan."
