Chapter 15 - I used to play tennis

"Wait, Miss Sin Day, we can't…" the archer tried to stop her.

Sin Day, the mage, looked back at the archer and asked. "Why can't we? The more the merrier, right? Besides, he's pretty strong. With him at our side, I'm sure we can easily kill those mobs," she said while tilting her head to the side.

"Stop it, Max, let her be," the assassin said.

"Tsk!" Max clicked his tongue.

Ranz looked at the female player. He noticed her character was of the human race. She had pink hair, round azure eyes, a cute pointy nose, a slightly thick lower lip, and most importantly… her curve is not bad.

Her height was a bit shorter than him, but it was tall for the female standard. No question about her gender in real life since there's no way to cheat your gender in this game. So trap characters are not possible here!

Ranz looked at the three. He noticed one of them was sending sharp stares at him. It was the player with long ears.

'Heh~ I can't remember doing something bad at him, so what's his problem? Regardless, it's better to ignore him.'

'Anyway, his character is a combination of archer and elf. A good combination. It was one of the top five favorite combos to most players on this continent, based on my research. The other guy is the assassin. His character is of the human race like the female with them. An assassin human is a common combination, so there's nothing special about it. Contrary to the archer, who was giving me a cold stare, the assassin showed an amiable smile on his face.'

Ranz secretly sighed.

Back to the mage, he looked at her. For some reason, she had sparkling eyes and a big smile. "What's your level?" Ranz asked her.

"We're all Level 4!"

'A quick reply?' Ranz was a little surprised.

"I see. In that case… thanks for the offer… but I decline," Ranz said blatantly.

After giving his reply to her, he turned around and walked again. The three looked stunned. They did not expect that he would decline.

Noticing that he was leaving, Sin Day quickly chased after him.

"Wait! I said wait!" Sin Day called out.

Noticing it, the archer also called out at Sin Day, "Wait! Miss Sin Day!"

They also followed. Sin Day arrived right beside Ranz. She asked him immediately, "Can you tell me why you don't want to team up with us?"

Even after noticing the girl beside him, walking at the same pace as his, Ranz didn't spare a glance at her. He was just looking in front of him where he saw a windmill about a kilometer away. Around it was brown and yellow plains. He believed it was a farm.

To her question, he opened his mouth and said his reply.

"The reason is obvious. It's because of our gap in level. I'm already Level 8 which is twice your level."

Sin Day looked on the road while touching her chin.

"Ah, I see, so that's why..."

After mumbling that, she looked up again and said, "But aren't Levels and Stats not a major factor in this game? The most important is your real fighting knowledge, right?"

Upon hearing that, Ranz suddenly stopped on his track and looked at her with a surprised face.

"R-Really?" He stammered.

Sin Day was a bit surprised by his reaction. She thought he knew about it because of the ability he showed earlier in the battle with the Little Roar Wolves.

"Uhm, isn't that was the reason why you have defeated those monsters?"

Ranz's head tilted slightly to the side to try to recall the fight just now.

"Isn't it obvious that I defeated those monsters because the gap in our level is high and not because of my knowledge in fighting?"

"Hmm… so it's just because of level…" Sin Day mumbled.

"Honestly, this is the first time I heard about what you said."

"The knowledge in fighting thingy?" Sin Day asked.

"Yes," Ranz nodded. He breathed out before he continued speaking. "Though don't get me wrong. I didn't say that the fighting knowledge you mentioned about was wrong. I think you are right. Like you said, knowledge in fighting must be also a major factor in this game..."

Ranz resumed walking; Sin Day too.

He continued saying, "However, I do not agree that the number of levels and size of status is not a major factor here."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, as you might already know, when a player's level went up, their body will get stronger and stronger and their senses will be sharpened."

"Hmm… now that you said that. I also noticed that I seemed to get a little stronger after I got to level 4. However, that was still not enough explanation for you to defeat those monsters alone. The three of us who were both level 4 struggled with a level 2 monster. Also your movements. How did you manage to avoid their attacks so easily? "

"Ah, true… hmm. How, huh? Maybe because I used to play tennis? I think of them like tennis balls."

There was a moment of silence before Sin Day failed to constrain her laughter.

"Pufft... hahaha! What the hell is that reasoning..." there were tears at the corners of her eyes.

Ranz just showed a wry smile.

"Anyway, are you sure you don't want to team up with us?" She asked again.

"Uh, sorry. As you can see, I don't think teaming up with others right now will be beneficial to me at this point."

"Hmm… true. In that case, are you going to hunt higher-level monsters alone?"

"Yes, I will hunt those around my level. As you can see, my XP won't grow up much by killing mobs far lower than my level. So I better look for mobs near my level." This was also his main reason why he could not team-up with them.

"I see. You're right…" she looked bashful suddenly. "I-In that case, will you mind if I add you to my friend list. Uh! Uhm! So that i-if we found a dungeon I'll be sure to notify you. How… is that?" She asked shyly.

Ranz felt piercing gazes from behind him. It was even more intense now. 'Dude, chillax, I'm not going to snatch your heroine,' Ranz thought inwardly.

To the mage's words, Ranz mulled. 'Dungeon, huh. True. In this game. Dungeons appeared randomly. You can get a variety of different rare items and equipment from it. They range from epic to mythic. Those who are lucky enough to encounter a dungeon will get a chance to get rich real quick.'

"That is indeed a very convincing offer. Sure, I won't mind."

[Player Sin Day wants to add you as a friend.]

[Accept] or [Decline]?

"Accept!"

[You added a new friend.]

When Ranz left, Sin Day was staring at the name in her friend list.

"Jack No Ripper? This name looks familiar. But I can't remember where or when I saw it," she mumbled.

"Is there a problem, Miss Sin Day?" The assassin asked.

"No, let's go."

"Okay."

"I still don't get it why you befriended him. He's just a beginner, you know. There's nothing worth noting about him," the archer said with a hint of envy.

"Well, maybe because he's… a bit strong?" Sin Day said in a questioning tone. "You noticed his title right?" She added.

"Ah, you mean that…? Hmm… true. For a newbie to already have such a shiny title, that is indeed uncommon," the assassin responded.

"Don't mulled over it you two. I'm sure he bought it to make his avatar look kinda cool," the archer told them.

"Well, maybe you're right," Sin Day said as she closed the holographic screen.

"Anyway! Let's not talk about him. I'm sure he's just a nobody. My name is Infinite Max! I'll be stronger than him when I reached the same level as him!" Max said.

After leaving Sin Day's small party, Ranz arrived at the abandoned farm.
