The vampires now stood on the cliff, waiting for their leader. The whole district was ripped and stripped to nothingness. Only the bodies of the dead that lay open in the field and the manor of Lord Elvin showed the extinct existence of humans. To the burning of houses, they lit their pipes, smoking, and puffing in a choreographed manner and to the blood they drank in plenty, did they, celebrate with the goblets of wine they found beside the elite men's bodies.

" Where are we going?. Don't think I trust you enough to follow you, like a dog ".
Edgar sighed for the umpteenth time that night. His body and mind raged war. Never has he been so starved with ' food ' in front of him. To her fortune, the wound was dressed with a cloth. It was neat and he need not worry about it getting infected.
" I didn't ask you to follow me. Remember you came along, all by yourself ". His voice sounded tired.
' You came along and since then, you've refused to keep shut '. He would have added but his laxity shut the words in his head
" What are you doing? ". Caroline who had been walking a few distances from Edgar, saw him fall to the side, leaning on a tree. And though he looked exhausted, her survival instinct kicked still to the optimum. He was a vampire after all.
" What does it look like I am doing? ". He asked as he slid to the ground, placing his hand over his eyes. And with his closed eyes, Caroline did not see the flickering between the red and black shade. With the restriction he had placed on his body earlier, Edgar fell more weak and thirsty. And for every second he did stay with her, he kept restricting and kept falling weak.
" I wouldn't bargain on the fact that you are doing anything suspicious. Acting weak might be your strength or perhaps a part of your plan. And no one of your kind is never known to be trusted ".
Her words. He bit on his lower lip as a tinge of pain grew in his chest. He was working hard to not dig his fangs into her skin but her reluctance to keep shut fuelled the fire within him. And not only was her blood tempting, but her beauty was also of more temptation.
.
A sly smirk appeared on his face. "Are you not being a nagging wife. I wouldn't mind being nagged by you anyways ". She was a maiden, an untouched one. Words so raw like that made maidens like her blush. And when she did blush, her blood rushed to her cheek, making the situation worst as he could smell her blood that reddened her cheeks.
Caroline felt her tongue, tied and firm. The words escaping her lips seemed to have been buried in her throat. This vampire was a shameless one, the hood over his head did best at hiding his profile. She could only imagine his jaw working when he said those words. His face she couldn't see fully left for the smirks that formed and his red eyes. In the end, she backed off, speechless
Edgar smiled when he saw her backing off. It was then he relieved himself of the breath he was holding. Raising himself, he sat in a comfortable position. The aroma of her blood had become redundant and with her head turned to the other side to hide her blush, he reached for the powder again, wrapped it around his finger, and sniffed it. His nose dragged every bit and blocked him off from the aroma. And though it was little, the temporary effect of the powder did him much good.
" What is happening? ". Edgar heard her ask and followed her line of sight. As they were now out of the manor, she could see the smoke that emitted from the houses and the piles of ashes. The market square was still far and out of range, so she could not see the numerous bodies they had killed. The bodies killed in the houses were burnt with them.
He looked at her again. Her eyes were very fervent on the scene that befell her. From her side frame, her nose stood pointed, her lashes that bathed her cheeks and her lips...
" The Vampires attacked ". Not until she looked at him did he notice that he had said what was in his head without a break to think.
Caroline turned to face him, her eyes as much hatred, he could not phantom. And the anger that hid behind those lashes— if looks were knives, he was sure to have been dead the moment she turned to him.
" The vampires did all these? ". And though it was a question, Edgar did not fail to notice that it sounded more like she was talking to herself.
Yes, she knew they were the ones at it. They had attacked first the market square. The houses, they had searched, killed, and burned, but it was better and a motivation for revenge, to hear it from one of them. To hear that they had finished a district without feeling sober for it.
" So, you were sent to search the manor and kill me too? ". Her eyes carried those emotions as she looked at him, unblinkingly.
" I believe you owe me an answer ". She continued after ten seconds of waiting for his reply.
" No ". He paused to think. " — it is complicated and whatever you want to do to me, you can do. But first let's get out of here ". He started to move after speaking.
Caroline saw his black cloak dancing in the wind behind him as walked away from her. Her eyeballs got redder as she kept playing his words as they had carried much confidence that she would follow him still after hearing his wicked confession.
" And you think I would follow you after what you just told me ".
She shouted, her voice echoing in the silent land.
Edgar halted and that smirk he loved wearing appeared on his face again. " You have no other choice ".
