Chapter 14 - Intoxicating

The decision to leave that place and get to another was carried out by both of them and while they walked, Caroline and Edgar, in the manor, the body of a young girl laid still on the cold and dusty ground. Her blonde hair sprawled underneath her. The blood coats on her neck stayed close to the two dots on it. And in the darkness, her eyes opened to reveal pupils of blue.

The vampires' comrades saw their leader coming from afar with a young girl. A girl whose eyes were as dark as the night with her chocolate tone skin. The sparks of fire that flew in the air appeared like fireflies around them with ashes continuously floating in the wind. He had by this time, removed the hood over his head, revealing his black hair that cascaded down his back.

And in the farther distance, Cadbury, one of the comrades thought he saw his leader intertwine his fingers with the young girl. " Who is that girl? ". Another comrade did utter his findings for he had kept his thoughts to himself to wait for another to speak what he so bagged.

" Wait is that Caroline?. Lord Elvin's maid ". A comrade voiced his question straight from his thoughts. And as he and the rest of the comrades loomed up, they saw in the near distance her hair, red and not black. Her skin was not tanned, it was as white as milk. Her eyes were green, not black, as they had known her to be.

He now saw that what he had cast unbelievable in his mind was nothing but his imagination. Their hands were not intertwined. She was steps away from him, but he knew from the way his leader walked, that she was within his range of protection.

" What is he doing with her? ". Yet another Comrade and soon they all questioned his closeness with Caroline.

They all saw him take that one leap that landed him three trees from where they packed and another that brought his base on a rock and another and yet another and a longer one. They saw him leaping with the maid in his hands and if there was one way they would know the two were still on their adventurous journey without looking at them, It would be the girl's scream as it caught through the air and almost pierced their eardrums.

Caroline first watched as everything got past them in a blur and as the cold wind hit her face, and flickered her lashes, she shut her eyes and let her hair fly in the breeze. And once when she felt they leaped without a spot to land, she held his inner shirt tighter and screamed her gullets out.

Edgar carried her in his arms, princess style, and landed on the cliff his comrades were. She clung to his shirt, not ready to let go. Her feet were on the ground and she was hanging on him like he was her life. He bit on his lower lip to stop the chuckle. The fragrance of her hair wafted in her nose.

Alas, the chuckle left in a throaty sound. " We are here. You can let go of me now ".

Caroline had expected another round of leaps but it seemed that he was done leaping. She opened her eyes only when she was told to. And when she stood uprightly, she caught her breath and inhaled the fresh air.

The comrades watched as their leader and the maid arrived at the cliff. Upclose, she was as beautiful as she was spoken of. Her hand was on her chest and their leader's eyes were on her. He, stood taking a gander at her worriedly. Their jaw dropped as they saw him, even when he had placed her on her feet still wind his hand around her waist like a fragile thing.

And the next thing they heard was a slap and an ' Ouch! '. The slap was light but because of their supernatural ears, they heard it audibly and vividly. Shockingly, their iron-hearted leader who was never seen or heard to grimace when in pain, cried out with just a slap on his arm.

" I saved you, didn't I and that's two in a row. You owe me a lot ". Edgar teased her as he finally let go of his hold around her waist at the time he was sure she had gotten her footing right.

Caroline was yet to notice the presence of the comrades, as she sat on a rock nearby. She looked at the hand that was injured and those few seconds and distance she had passed with the vampire, turned the wound fresh again. She remembered that once when they jumped, she felt something stick to it. The white cloth she tied around it was now soaked with blood.

And whilst she viewed the wound, to find a way to get the bleeding to stop, she recalled she was with a vampire. Blood was their meal, the aroma as intoxicating as wine. And with this, she feared she could be at the end of her road.

Caroline lifted her eyes to see the uncovered eye switch between red and black and red too. His fangs were elongated and claws too. And it was when she heard the growls that she notice the red eyes of the vampires. Their extremes, claws and fangs at full their lengths.

" Hey! ". Caroline tried calling out to the eyed-patched man. He was looking at her but yet not looking. He was not hearing her either. The other comrades too had that same look in their eyes as if something was blurring their vision. They all had their eyes on her. And when she did look closer, they looked at her like a predator would at a prey.

The stone by her side became a weapon as she aimed at them to throw some sense into their heads.

" Hey! ". She called again and threw the stone at the eye-patched vampire. The stone hit him and fell to the ground. She picked another one at a length away and at him again, she threw it. More, she picked and threw, but the more she threw, the more they braced the ground.

Soon she changed her aim and at the men that looked identical, she aimed to revive their sanity. But before she could throw the stone in her hand, they came, flying in her direction.
