Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 Back from the future

As soon as Ethan uttered those words, an inconceivable thing happened. A couple of bright glowing blue words lit up and appeared in his line of sight like he was watching a holographic projection in front of him.

<< Reincarnation Successful..... Activating Plundering System at Hosts command.... Assimilation Successful ..... Welcome Host >>

"Sigh! It really is just like a video game in this life, if I remember correctly". Ethan sighed out loud and continued to look at the screen.

.....

About fifteen Years into the future

The original sky above Green Will city was no longer bright and sunny as it used to be in the past. Dark gloom clouds hung over the heads of every citizen of the city as they sat within their homes.

Just like the government had told them to, the elderly, sick and those who hadn't awakened were all asked to stay home, while all those who were the exact opposite of the listed criteria had been brought over to the city walls.

No one knew what the situation of the outside world was like, but they weren't stupid enough not to realize the severity of the situation.

Not just green will city, literally every city in what was left of the world had recalled back their experts whether hidden or public back to their various countries. Overseas contracts and jobs were terminated early with zero thought of the possible remunerations while the owners of the terminated contracts didn't even bother to seek compensation as they too had important things to deal with.

Basically everyone had the same thought as everyone was preparing themselves for the day of Armageddon. What compensation? If we are able to live past today is still a question that we have no answer to.

Various organizations, governments of nations and hidden powers were busy with one thing or the other, desperately grabbing on to every second of time they had left to utilize it properly.

Be it Martial Artists or Beastmasters, Hell even Powerful Newborns were no exception and were reeled back in by their respective organizations to provide more defence.

The city lord was probably the most anxious of the bunch within green will city as he stood on the city walls looking into the far distance. Along with him, was the city defence guards, the various Guilds, sects and associations within the city.

Just like all the other cities, he had called back all the powerhouses that could be found within the city as well as those out on missions, Dungeon diving, scavenging on quests, however he still felt incredibly insecure.

The reason was very simple. His city only had about Three Rank 4 experts within their crew with no single Rank 5 expert to reassure him of their safety. What made him feel worse was that among these three experts, he wasn't one of them.

Two were from the largest A rank Guilds in the city while the last one was a chairman of the Association branch. He as the city lord was only a Rank 3 and quite frankly, didn't even have the guts to speak to these people on equal footing.

Any awakened, be it Newborns, Beastmasters or Martial artists who haven't stepped past the Advanced Stage were basically unranked fighters.

Due to the general differences in the power levels of the three classes, Martial artists, Beastmasters and Newborns, they were all classified into Ranks

After breaking through the Advanced stage for Martial artists and Beastmasters and Level 8 for Newborns, they would be be classified as Rank 1 Fighters.

Rank 4 experts were those who had stepped into Grandmaster realm for Martial artists, Beast Grandmasters for Beast related warriors and King tier for Newborns.

Despite the fact that two were a Second stage Grandmaster realm Martial artist and D rank Beast Grandmaster respectively while the other was Level 4 King Tier Newborn, they were still 4th Rank experts nonetheless and could at least guarantee their own safety.

Not to mention the fact that the only level 4 King Tier Newborn who was the Association branch chairman was nowhere to be found.

In the upper areas of Green will city, Ethan sat in front of his mansion with nothing but a bottle of booze in his hands. For the past month, Reverb had been shut down at 12am in the morning making sure that there was no idiot stupid enough to go into the game when the entire world was in their time of crisis.

All the valuable people were on top of the city walls that encompassed Green Will while, he was drowning himself in alcohol patiently awaiting the end of days.

In Reverb, he was a level 18 Ace Assassin Expert player, one of the upper echelon members of a B rank Adventurers Guild Sky Reapers in the game, and was currently a millionaire both inside and out.

However, in real life, he was just a normal person, at least he was until a few days ago.

Many people didn't know the reason for the widespread panic even among the Super Guilds, but he had a friend who was a Core members of Sky reapers guild who got a little info after some digging around.

It turned out that the number of Dungeons appearing on earth had reached an astronomical number and therefore, a massive disturbance had been caused in the earths atmosphere.

To put it in simple words, massive dungeons were going to appear above every Nation in the world, and by the sizes of the disturbance and the immensity of dimensional mana they radiated, these dungeon Gates were all S Rank at the very least.

The repercussions of such an event taking place was not something a layman could imagine. An S rank Gate would spew out at least a thousand low level A rank Monsters as the cannon fodder group, A couple hundred AA rank dungeon demons as they second wave of attacks, before having a group of High Level AAA rank Monsters acting as guards for the final boss of the dungeon, An S Rank Monster.

The difference in ranks was more than triple in terms of strength so the damage a single Triple A rank Monster could do was not something the guild leaders and experts of Green Will city could hope to stand up to not to mention that the number of these kinds of monsters were at least fifty.

It was no wonder why everyone was feeling incomparable gloom.

Ethan who had finally gotten information about the whole matter was deeply shocked into stress. However, that wasn't the worst of it.

Because of the high state of alert, the various guilds had been expending large amounts of money in order to man their forces to be ready for a possible catastrophe. So therefore, a new order was enacted.

All those who weren't actual awakened in real life were fired from the Guild. Even if you were just an Adept Level Martial Artist or an ordinary Beast Tamer, your future in the guild would not be at stake, however for Ethan, who was just a regular human on earth, this was nothing less than heartbreaking news

He had given the good years of his life to Sky reapers and how did they repay him. With nothing more than a small mansion in the upper areas of the city and a check of about 10 million representing his contract remuneration that still had a year left before renewal.

He was kicked out of Sky Reapers.

It wasn't until a few days ago that Ethan finally awakened his potential as a Newborn

However, it was even more depressing when he realized he had awakened with extremely low potential.

He awakened a random strength enhancement ability just like the majority of Awakened Newborns.

With his low talent, Even if he meditated for the rest of his life, he would not even reach the peak of Adept Realm.

His life was even more ridiculous than before when he was just a normal person, and because of the fact that he just awakened, he didn't have his information as an awakened Newborn in the Association database.

So therefore, despite the fact that he was rich, he was no different than an insignificant person in the eyes of the Association.

He could have gone to reapply for it but what was the use. If he did, he wouldn't even be able to serve as cannon fodder and would get dragged off into a war that the possibility of winning was lower than the wine in the bottle he was currently drinking and that wine bottle, was currently 1% away from empty.

It was laughable really. In this world, when you awakened, talent was one of the most important aspects to pay attention to.

There was no way that Sky reapers would take him back even as a newly awakened, as his value, was not in real life, but in the game. What was the point of paying him close to a million dollars every month when there was no certainty that Reverb would ever be opened again.

So depressed, Ethan sat outside his mansion and watched from afar what those in the city walls were doing.

"You know, you could be up there with them if you wanted!" At that moment, a sexy voice came from behind him. Ethan didn't even bother to turn around as a small smirk came on his face.

"What use would I be even if I go there now? For people of my strength, it would just be too easily for an A rank monster to rip me in half". Ethan said while grumbling a little.

"Am a man with the account of a millionaire, I can't even do one thing to help when am supposed to. I let my Mom down and now, I have to watch you go over there and fight while I sit here and do nothing".

As soon as he said those words, PAH!

A loud resounding slap rang out as his entire face shifted to the side. He was stunned at first before the self depreciating smile returned to his lips as he straightened his neck and looked at the woman who was only half clothed in front of him.

Her face was as cold as ice but her eyes were sparkling with gentleness, care and concern. It could be seen that he slap she had given him had hurt her emotionally much more than it had hurt him physically.

"Say that about yourself one more time, and I'll slap you again". She said with a cold voice laced with concern, however, though she said that with her own mouth. she couldn't bring herself to the thought of doing it again.

Ethan could only smile wryly. This lady had held back more than 99 percent of her strength when she slapped him but it still hurt like hell. He was trying not to let out a line of blood draw down his lips so she wouldn't feel bad.

This woman, who was stone cold to the world and was like a fierce housewife in front of him was none other than the Chairman of the Association, or Chairwoman to be more precise.

Her name was Annabelle Krill, a Level 4 King Tier Newborn.
