Chapter 7 - 6. Gerald...

"Do you need anything sir, I can help you with anything you need. Just say the word, and I'll go running now. I noticed that Stephen did not come to work on Friday, and today he isn't here either, so I'm just saying in case you need assistance, I could be your assistant sir. I'm very resourceful."

Now that this MnM said this, I have can't help but think why do I need to hire someone from outside to be my assistant when there are able bodied people right here in the office?

Why didn't I ever think of that?

Oh, sorry I diverted. This is MnM. He seems a little greasy all over when he's up close. It makes me wonder why he's skin glows like this. I would love to know what inside of him produces this glow. Maybe I'll find out some day.

"Y_Yes Michael, I _ I need you to gather everyone in team A together for me. I want to talk to them in the meeting room." This is the part where I play the naive, innocent and gullible boss.

If you walked into my office a while ago and saw me talking with Barb, you would not believe I'm the same humble man standing here right now talking to this guy. I wear my shoulders down, my eyes are not glaring, I just look at my feet while talking to them, my palms continuously fiddling together.

In all fact, my appearance is like that of a timid ten year old who is terrified of bullies. Isn't that right Barb?

So fucking right boss. You deserve all the Oscar awards that is obtainable. Best actor, best New actor, best everything.

Who would ever think you're the same person who guts people like fish. Oops, my bad. I'll shut up now. I'm diverting from the main story.

Micheal who was almost in tears as he now realizes that I, his boss knows him by name, and I just even called him and gave him a task.

"YES Sir!!," I swear, I literally jumped out of my nicely tailored suit as the man called Michael suddenly roared.

"I'LL DO THAT RIGHT AWAY SIR" I could tell that if he was given the chance right now, he could hug me at the moment. But thank God he didn't do anything stupid.

"didn't you all hear, the director wants to talk to us all." He wasn't sounding harsh, rather he sounded like he was explaining to a bunch of five year Olds.

"Let's go to the meeting room everyone. Let's go now. Where is Dave? He's part of our team, so he has to be here too..."

" What is wrong with Micheal, it's not like the midget has anything important to say to us anyway..."

Oh, I almost forgot. I should have told you all earlier. I have super hearing. Well it's nothing cool. But you know when people get into accidents, and it affects their ears, and most times it ends up with the person going deaf, or having hearing problems.

Well my case was special. I got into this accident, I don't have time to go into details right now, but it was back when I was around eight, I got into a car crash, and all I know is that there was a lot of blood coming out of my ears, and the doctors did what they could.

They told my father that I probably would have hearing loss, and will probably need hearing aids from then on.

But then when I woke up, I didn't have hearing loss, nor did I need hearing aids. Instead, my hearing became even sharper and clearer.

I can hear your whisper from a mile away. That's also one of the reasons I had my house built where it is. Away from the voices and the noises. As I grew older, I learnt to block out all the noises, and just focus on the one I needed to hear.

I'm just telling you this so you know that whispering about me is useless. I hear you either way.

Just like I hear the whispers of these workers who call me dumb and incompetent.

"just let him be Becka... He's been here for just four months, he's trying to suck up to the loser boss. He is blinded as to which horse he should hitch his wagon to." Another team member who I don't even recognize whispers back to the lady who I now know is called Becka.

They both walk past me with disdain clearly in their eyes.

"Dave, where did you go?" Michael inquires as the young man called Dave waltzed in with a bag of chips in his hand.

"Director Kent wants to see us." with this minor explanation, Dave drops the bag of chips and quickly follows in the direction the others were going.

"I don't know, but I feel like there is someone missing. It's a..."

" I'm here" the high-pitched ear screeching voice resounded in the hall. Making me tilt my head to his side, trying to bury my right ear into my shoulder as the lady came running like lightning. Her voice was just so loud.

"Oh, Evelyn right on time, we are having a meeting right now, go into the meeting room." Michael urges her, and she immediately runs into the room. Now it seemed he was sure that was everybody.

" After you sir" he clamored, with a very low bow, his head almost touching his knees.

Seeing him bend so low, now I'm curious to know what makes his back bend so much. How is he so flexible. Does he have elastic in his back. I really wish I could just open him up and see.

"Sir" the man raises his head, as he notices I was still rooted on the spot.

"oh, you go in first" I pointed in the direction of the meeting room, and I could see it in his eyes that he was impressed with me.

He clearly felt noting but pure respect for his director.

I could tell from his look what he was thinking. He's probably thinking something like...

His boss is the kind of man that put his subordinates first before himself. A truly remarkable man. This is probably what is going through this MnM's head right now.

We both walk in, and I just stood there, studying my so-called team members.

They could try to hide it, but I can read beneath their faces, I can tell what lies deep inside their hearts.

That's because you've opened up a lot of hearts, so now you know what one would look like without even thinking too much. Oops, I forgot again, I'm not a narrator in this story. I'm just the super smart Barb. Sorry for interrupting your story Bruce.

You say sorry, and then you interrupt again. tsk tsk tsk.

Now, I know that half of the people sitting down here right now in this room wished they were on team B rather team A.

They mocked me inwardly, some didn't even try to hide their displeasure from me. I could see it on their faces that they felt like I'm just a loser.

But then the other half is divided in two. One part had some kind of respect for him as a human being, but not as a director. And the other part which consisted of MnM, Evie and Dave and me and myself obviously believed in me, had respect for me both as a human being and as their boss.

"I_ I umm just wanted to umm, to talk to you all about the upcoming Kent's 30th Anniversary celebration."

As soon as I started talking, I could see the eyes rolling, I could see some of them eyeing me like a piece of rag that stood in front of them, not worthy of their attention.

" As you all..."

Just as I was just starting my speech, the door to the room suddenly pushed open, and the brown-haired head of a man was sticking into the room, with a daunting smile playing over his lips.

" oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that anyone was in here." the man said.

Barb: the walls of the meeting room is a complete see through, so how could he not see you all seated here. Bruce we should just gut him too, it's way overdue.

"It's_ it's okay, you don't have to apologize." I calmly said as the lover of peace that I am.

But then it caused some murmurs in the room. Murmurs I could clearly hear. Some were wondering how dense and dumb I could actually be, and the few reasonable ones could only reflect on how kindhearted and of a man I really am.

All of which were, well, far from what I actually am.

"if you're not doing anything important, me and my team want to have a meeting, so you'll have to excuse us." The man says.

" But Gerald.."

"oh come on Bruce, it's not like you will do anything anyway. Your team never comes up with anything useful for the business, so if anything, I think we deserve to use this place whenever we want."

Okay, I want you all to meet Gerald Harvey. Director and team leader of team B. The flourishing team of our department.

Now some minutes ago in the previous chapter, I told you all I don't hate people, and that if I did, Richards would be on the top of that list, but I made a mistake then. If I actually hate people, then this man Gerald would definitely take first place. Richards comes after.
