Chapter 43 - You're Not Going Anywhere

DENZYL'S POV

"Denzyl!"

I look at the human gazing up at me with a curious glint.

"What?"

"Did your mark give me..erm..you know, abilities?"

"Most likely. It's basically a part of me in you, so...yeah, you could have gotten some of my abilities."

"Woah..."

My curiosity takes over as I look at the beautiful human. "What are you experiencing?"

"For now, advanced senses like better hearing."

"Ah. That's good."

Our attention is grabbed by a dendrum crewman opening the compartment's door and standing at the entrance. We both turn and look up at him. "Arrival to Morthram in two hours," the bulky smuggler announces before retreating through the door.

"Two hours until Morthram...Where to go," I wonder out loud.

"Let's go to Borum," Devyn proposes.

"Borum?"

He nods. "There's someone who may help us."

I stop to think.

"It's the best option we have."

"How well do you know this person?"

"She's like a mentor and older sister."

"But it's been fifty years. Will she still be there?"

"Believe me, she's not the type to give up. She's still there."

Devyn's determination convinces me. "Okay. Borum it is."

A soft smile comes on Devyn's lips. "Thank you, Denzyl."

I cannot help but smile back at the human. "Mm. It'll be nice to find someone you know and trust."

TIME SKIP: ARRIVAL AT MORTHRAM

DEVYN'S POV

Denzyl stands behind me protectively as we wait to exit the dendrum ship. The demon steadies both of us as we feel the ship docking. The line of passengers begins moving, and we enter the station in a matter of seconds. Denzyl takes the lead as we go to buy passage to Borum.

"Flight's in an hour. Bay N-12/7.9," Denzyl informs as he hands me a small, thin disk containing the flight information and ticket.

We make our way to the train in the space station. Denzyl follows me onto the train and stands behind me, placing his hand right beside mine on the overhead bar. The train eases into a high speed after it fills with passengers. The in-station train stops at each bay, letting off riders and gaining passengers. We make our way to the doors as the train leaves Bay M.

"Bay N," an automated voice sounds throughout the train as the transit comes to a stop.

We exit the train and walk down to Sector 12 of Bay N before finding Terminal 7. From there, we make our way down the massive hallway, passing several pods and inlets filled with chairs and people until we come to Gate 9. Numerous travelers are waiting at Gate 9; some sit, but most stand. I find a column towards the edge of the gate's area away from the density of the crowd. Folding my arms over my chest, I lean against the column. Denzyl comes to stand next to me.

I look up at the demon standing to my left. He towers over most humans of average height and other smaller beings. Standing at six feet and one inch, I am towards the higher end of the average height of a human, but Denzyl is easily four to five inches taller than I am.

My eyes trail down from the demon's feet up to his head. Woah...my keen eyes observe Denzyl's muscles and lean figure. How tall is he going to get? Is he going to continue growing? Wait...how old is he? I am pretty sure demons stop growing around 150.

Denzyl notices me ogling his pectoral muscles and looks at me curiously. "What are you doing?"

"Hmm?" I look up at him. "Oh, just thinking."

"About what?"

"How old are you? You know, I don't know much about you."

"Including the fifty years?"

I nod.

"Two hundred and fifty."

My jaw drops. 250?! Whew! That is a relief. He is not getting any bigger...Wait...why is that a relief to me? Why don't I want him to get bigger? Aish! Get these dirty thoughts out of your head, Devyn!!

"Are you okay?" Denzyl asks with worry as he sees thoughts racing through my head.

"Mm hm. I'm fine. It's just...250 is a lot."

This draws a scoff out of the demon. "Heyyy, 250 is young for a demon."

"I know. I was just teasing." WOAH. Hold up! Did I just FLIRT with him??...Well, I can't say I am against it. I mean, look at him. He's a specimen.

"Ahhhh. Were you now?" Denzyl says in a low voice as he turns towards me and steps closer.

I look up at his grey eyes as he places his arm above my head on the column and leans in close to me. At this moment, all thoughts go out the window as I am engulfed in his eyes.

"So, how old are you? You know, I don't know a whole lot about you," the demon returns my inquiry.

Denzyl's deep whisper does something to me, but I cannot tell you right now exactly what it does. Just know that I like it.

My brain scrambles to think under Denzyl's intense gaze. How old am I? Oh, that's right. "Including the fifty years?"

The demon nods.

"Seventy-one."

"You're really young. Even for a human. I've heard some humans can live up to five hundred."

"I won't."

Denzyl raises an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"I'm not using the drug."

"Why?"

"I don't want to be like...someone."

Denzyl senses the tension through both my voice and the bond. "Don't worry." His voice is suddenly soft like when he told me he could never hurt me. "You won't have to."

I find myself melting from his voice. I barely manage to say, "I don't follow."

"You'll stay young without the drug."

"How?" Hope and excitement start building up inside of me. I do not know why, but I want to stay with you for as long as I can. Woah, did I just think that?

Denzyl brings his free hand to my back and places it over the mark. "This. It's a part of me remember? As long as you have this, you're not going anywhere."

That was sweet and kind of possessive. I like it. It's kind of romantic, too. "Okay," I find myself smiling under the mask. It is a good thing I have this mask. Otherwise, Denzyl would see just how excited I am.
