When I opened the gate, Arya was carrying a raw mango wrapped in plastic cellophane.
"Good afternoon, Preggy lady," she said as she walked in.
"You don't have a job today?" I asked as I followed her into the house.
It walked with its hips swaying and its head tossed. We were inside the house an hour later.
Arya had her foot resting on the couch. As I sat in the chair next to her,
"How's your life going?" she asked.
"I'm OK."
"They informed me you're resigning. Why is it so sudden?" she asked once again.
Instead of speaking, I remained mute.
"Does Noah keep you from working?" she inquired.
Because she had been gone for a week, she had no idea Noah and I had broken up. I'll express my displeasure with a shake of my head.
"Arya, Noah, and I are no longer together,"
"What, you're kidding, right?" she exclaim her eyes widen.
She stood up, hands on her waist.
"What happened?"
"I'm not sure, he didn't really explain why we needed to break up."
"Aren't you thinking, Dionne? Why did you say yes then? Can't you see your situation right now?" she exclaims, grabbing her own hair in disbelief.
