“Why?” Emma questioned him, trying hard to conceal the sourness in her heart. “I thought you were free tonight.”
“I—” Daniel hesitated for a while before coming up with a good lie. “I have an important meeting.”
When she didn't say anything, he quickly added, “I really wanted to take you out today, but—”
“It’s okay,” she interrupted him. “The meeting is obviously very important.”
Just then, Josh entered the office to remind Daniel about the meeting. “Boss, everything is ready. The meeting will start in five minutes.”
When Daniel kept standing in the same spot with no intention of moving, Josh wanted to say they would be late for the meeting, but he chose not to. He could sense the intense tension between his boss and Emma, which was very weird and awkward.
