Chapter 33 - Tugged at one's heartstrings

Kahlan was sprawled out on the floor close to the toilet seater in a puddle of water. The scary part was her pale skin and face that was now as white as sheet.

Her feet was bare and her shoes were lieing around, clearly some one had taken it off. Who could be this cruel! Her phone was lieing at the other end, the screen clearly broken. The scene was not gory but tugged at one's heartstring invoking pity and the urge to make the person that put Kahlan in such condition suffer.

Mia was agitated, she walked with shaky legs towards Kahlan kneeling beside her and taking her cold body into her arms. "So cold" she whispered.

Taking off her jacket, she sniffed hardly covering Kahlan's body in it. Tears rolled down her cute cheeks, completely oblivious to the fact that she was sitting on the cold water.

"Kay! I'm sorry, if only...if only" she wept. "It my fault! it's all my fault!" Mia was weeping, tears and snot all over his face.

The manager came forward, placing his two fingers on the side of her neck to check her pulse.

"She's alive. Though her pulse is weak, she would be fine. I think she fainted from cold, she has a high fever now. We should take her to the hospital. call the ambulance" he turned to one of his staffs.

"Yes sir"

The manager breathed a sigh of relief.

When he walked in just now and saw Kahlan looking like a corpse, he imagined the terrible tale that will follow his cafe. He had actually thought she was dead.

Marcello came back to his senses after hearing the managers words. He walked to where Kahlan was lieing but paused. He didn't know where to place his hands, leaving his hands suspended in mid air.

He dazedly snatched Kahlan's cold body from the arms of his cousin, carrying her princess style manner. Looking at her like he was looking at a treasure. Only he knew how much pain he felt just now seeing Kahlan like that.

"Won't you wait for the ambulance to arrive?" The manager said trying to stop him from carrying Kahlan out. There was certainly no way he was going to let Marcello walk out carrying her like that.

If the ambulance arrive, it will show how benevolent and coordinated his cafe was.

Marcello walked past the manager, acting like he didn't hear him. The manager began to panic. What on earth was wrong with the blockhead! The lady was not dead! What if he carried her out like that, wouldn't that scare off the people in his cafe? That young lady looked like a ghost right now!

Marcello stopped at the door and said without turning back. "I wouldn't want to come back with the police to pick your staff Mr manager"

His voice was so emotionless making the staffs feel uneasy. The manager sneered, What police? Did he think he was afraid of the police? Dream on!

Of course, he knew what Marcello was insinuating and he wasn't wrong. Even he too didn't want to keep the wench around. He had gone through a lot to get to this point, he couldn't afford to throw everything away because of a foolish woman. He was more than ready to put her behind bars.

On the surface he smiled looking benevolent.

"I will make sure to punish my unruly staff. My apologies young sir but I think you should wait a little for the ambulance to arrive"

"I'm sorry, but I have to leave" he threw the word on him walking out with Kahlan in his arms. Embracing her cold body, hoping to provide a little warmth for her.

He walked as fast as he could making Mia run after him still crying like a baby.

He needed to take Kahlan to the hospital immediately.
