Chapter 29 - Rabbits (6)

* Before the confrontation *

" That's the plan? You're out here acting like a detective, and your plan is to use your ability he saw already? " Sol looked at me like he was embarrassed he even thought I was anything in the first place.

Without hesitating, I decided to form an arm around his eyes.

!

" What!?" He suddenly shouted and unsheathed his sword immediately. I removed it after he freaked out, which caught the attention of the others.

" What? What happened?" They rushed towards us, possibly wondering about a Shrieker attack that didn't even exist.

" Uh no... It was just a rabbit, I think. He ran that way. " Sol seemed to realize what had just happened as he glanced at me.

" Oh ok, we'll continue, then just call us if there's an emergency." The others finally left, leaving Sol and me behind.

" Even the once in a millennia genius Sol couldn't block it. So I think we'll be fine with the plan. Or are you not confident in your skills? " I cheekily said, fully knowing I was playing with fire. I already messed with him by using my ability, but he wanted to see how my plan would work, so that was not my fault.

Sol looks at me with a serious expression, holding the sheath of his blade firmly in his hands.

... Uhh, I'm sorry?

"Anyway, since you look like you're ready, we'll proceed with the plan." I ignore his piercing gaze, fearing the repercussions of doing so.

...

...

...

Kinmed with his arms fully coated with the durable scales, looked at us like a lizard staring down a small critter. It was unnerving to see quite an unhinged expression coming out of a superhuman who could probably lift an entire car by himself.

I may have had an entirely different predator beside me, but it was still a young one. After all, hyenas could kill a baby lion easily.

Kinmed rushes at us, swinging his blade all the way from the top of his head. Sol parried his blade successfully, but the difference in strength was present already. His ability might be weaker than that of Sol, but his overall strength and experience were better than his.

Swoosh Shing

They were getting faster and faster. You could hear the sound of their blades colliding with each other, slicing the air and missing their opponents. It looked like Sol was somehow managing to parry the wild Kinmed, yet every attack was pushing him back.

It's quite scary, though, looking at someone your age fighting a veteran hunter older than him and more experienced than him. That is so, but I have to help him if we want to win this fight. I need to find the perfect time for it, though, as failing here might cost us our lives.

Not yet... I could see Sol glance in my direction here and there, looking for some assistance.

I can't yet, so buy me some more time.

They trade more blows as I wait for the prime time. It was extremely difficult to find it, however, because they were far too fast for comfort. The correct timing depends on the speed of my arm's formation and also their movement. If I form an arm in his eyes yet he moves a second later, then it's pretty much useless.

Fuck! If this continues, Sol may have a negative opinion of me.I'm sure he's still hiding his full strength, but there's obviously a reason he was hiding it in the first place, and I couldn't just force him to show it without souring my relationship with the main character.

I've underestimated his strength...

Shing!

Sol blocks Kinmed's attack yet again, still failing to attack back, but this time I could finally distract him.

Without wasting a second longer, I lifted my finger, forming a gun. In that instant, I formed an arm around Kinmed's eyes, causing him to flinch, lifting his blade from Sol.

" Wha!?"

Sol found the opening immediately and slashed his blade, cutting both of Kinmed's arms.

"Argh!"Kinmed shouts in pain as he looks at his severed arms. His blade stuck to the ground and his scaled arms lay motionless on the bloodied floor.

" You took your sweet time, huh." Sol looks at me quite angrily.

" Hey, it's not my fault you couldn't handle him. I thought you said it was easy? " I retorted, looking down at the tired and angry Sol. Thank God I was taller than him, or I would've lowered down already at this point. My height is my only personality against this broken guy.

" Ha... It's useless... I'm sorry... I've done everything I could... " Kinmed seems to have calmed down already as he kneels on the floor, hopelessly staring at the hard ground.

" That'll grow back, the medical skills of Tree's doctor reach a supernatural stage. Like literally. " I say so, not wanting to hear the pleas of a sadistic murderer killing even his closest mates.

" Ha...Ha... James... Kleir... " He keeps whispering, but I was too tired to sympathize with someone like this.

But now that I think about it, where were Toons and Kleir in the middle of that entire fight? The plan only consisted of me and Sol, fearing that Kinmed might be a wrong guess, but as he already admitted, their help would've made everything easier.

" Miss Kleir?" I say as I fail to find them in the caves. I didn't even see them leave the cave during the fight, which is probably just nothing considering that I was too focused on the fight, I didn't see the dancing gorilla in the middle of a group of people passing the ball after all.

" Mon... " Sol suddenly whispers my name.

" What? "

" It's not... " He whispers again, but I didn't catch what he was saying.

" What? "

" IT'S NOT OVER YET! " He screams, sending shivers down my spine.

" What do you mean... " I could only say this as he looks at something in front of him that is invisible to the naked eye.
