Prologue:
"I love you, please be my partner!"
"…" She stared at him, her little glowing green pupils piercing through his soft white skin. Was it a joke? A pathetic little game created to make a fool out of her, representative of class 4-2?
Charlotte's feet stood rooted to the ground, her mouth agape, unable to utter a single word as her very own classmates laughed at poor, unfortunate Kichii.
"Bwhahahaha! What the hell are you doing, ya dunce!"
"A-Ahh!" Kichii was forced to the ground with a thud as his love letter broke free from his grasp and fell to Charlotte's face.
"H-hey! G-Give that back! That's not for you!"
"Or what? As if a loser like you could do anything! Bwhahaha!"
"St-Stop it! D-Don't-Argh-!" He who made the letter was faced with a shoe straight to the nose, his male classmate snatched it, tearing up the carefully decorated pink envelope before his very eyes.
There, his confession was read for all to hear.
"Dear Charlotte…"
"…" Tears swiftly made their way to his eyes. The boy was completely humiliated. He hoped with every ounce of his spirit that it was all just a cruel nightmare, but the immense agony emitting from his bloodied nose was all too real. It was reality. A cruel, heartless reality.
The love letter Kichii created for his one and only was torn to shreads the moment it's contents was spilled. He didn't have the strength nor the will to even look at the girl.
"K-Kichii I-"
"Sh-Shut up!" Kichii blurted out immediately after hearing his voice. His face twisted in rage, his medium sized baby blue eyes overflowing with salty tears. He slapped Charlotte's hand away from his own face, startling her while shooting daggers in her direction. But upon realising what he had done, he quickly backed away.
"I-I'm sorry I-"
"K-Kichii-!"
"Nnrng…"
Before anything else was done, he fled. Ignoring the mocking laughter of his pitiless classmates and Charlotte's murmurs.
"Damn it all!" Kichii darted down the street on foot, tears flowing like a river across his delicate, stained cheeks. Why did it have to end up like this?! He thought. Why? Why?! He looked back upon his confession. The way the students glared at him, the arrogant, horrid behaviour, the traumatizing experience, and finally, the embarrassment it must've been for Charlotte. She must hate me now, huh? There wasn't a single doubt about it. Charlotte, the one whom was supposed to receive his letter, must've resented him more than ever. One thing was for sure-Kichii wasn't returning to his high school.
He stopped in the middle of a play ground near to his home and sat upon a wooden bench. The yellow-orange rays of the sun glimmered across the evening, cloudless sky, giving it a nostalgic ambiance. Only a handful of little children were around, some on the swing set, others on the monkey bars.
"Charlotte…" A long sigh escaped his petite lips as he sadly smiled. "...Well, at least it was worth a shot…"
?: "Hiiippp!!"
"Mm?" Nearby, a sudden, audible, animal-like sound emitted. Kichii gaped in it's direction, and instantly perceived a presence.
"Huh? That sounded like…"
?: "Hiiiiiiiiiip!"
"Bwaaah!" From behind a small bush appeared a large ball of orange-white fluff. It was an adult female fox. The animal kicked and squirmed along the ground, as if it were pleading for Kichii's aid.
Viewing it's behaviour, he instinctively stood up, then knelt down in front of it.
"Hey...are you alright little guy/" He questioned the fox.
"Wince, sad growl."
"Hrm…" Kichii gave the fluffy creature a light twinkle, "...What's the matter?"
"…" The fox gaped at him with it's big blue eyes, scanning all around his face until they finally locked gazes. Despite being just a fox, she seemed to be deep in thought.
Soon, it turned around, then showed the boy her front-right paw.
"So this is the problem…" There was a wooden splinter lunged deep inside the middle of the fox's paw. Clearly, it gave the poor animal a terrible ache.
"Looks like we both had quite the bad day, huh little guy?" Kichii stated.
"Wince. Squirm." The animal gazed at him, her peepers begging for help. Fortunately, Kichii was there to give.
"I'll be removing it now, okay?"
"Hiip! Hiip!"
"Three...two...one…"
"HIIIIIIIIIIPP!!" Followed by a roaring shriek from the animal, Kichii swiftly, but carefully, removed the splinter from the paw. After it's removal, he took a napkin from his pocket, and wrapped it around the wound.
Next, he gently patted the fox's fluffy, orange head.
"There, all better." He said. She stared at him, seemingly shocked at what occurred. Kichii, timid, averted his gaze. "H-hey, no need to stare so much...silly fox…"
"Hiip!! Hiiiiip! Hiiiiiiip!!" The fox hopped about in circles, delighted by what Kichii did for it. Before long, she approached, then rubbed the side of it's face on his leg, thanking him.
"Aww…" The feeling of it's fur rubbing against him spread a warm feeling throughout his body. "...You're welcome little guy."
However, it wasn't long before he recalled the incident at his school.
"Hiip?" The fox noticed his once again saddened face, and tilted his head as if asking him 'What's the matter?'
Kichii peered at her with a soft groan, "It's nothing. I'm heading home."
"Hiip?"
"Be more careful out there, alright?"
"Hiip! Hiiiiip!" But the fox wouldn't let him leave without herself. Refusing to leave his side, she followed him even to the entrance/exit of the playground.
"Huh?" Does it want to come home with me?
Kichii's mother died when he was younger after a failed battle against cancer. Ever since then, his father was forced into working extra to maintain a stable income. He was almost never home.
At the time, Kichii's father was on a business trip abroad, which left his son to the care of his maid, a woman in her early twenties.
The thought of him adopting the fox crossed his mind. If he promised he'd care for her, would his maid allow him to keep it?
Ultimately, he decided to chance it. Once again, Kichii knelt down.
"Wanna come home with me?"
"Hiip?! Hiiiiipp!!!" The offer was gleefully taken up, which was to his surprise.
"Alright. Hmm...I think I'll name you...Aura. Yeah, Aura sounds like a good name for you."
"Hiip?" Aura, the fox, took the name into consideration. One way or the other, it seemed to accept being called by her new name.
From that day on. Kichii and his female fox, Aura, started their new lives together.
