Chapter 3 - We Work For Her Father

I was yanked forward, coming face to face with the leader of the three. I tilted my head, studying the stage nine before me. You could almost tell that he wasn't dead or decaying. I could still smell it thought but to a normal human nose, you couldn't. His eyes were red like mine.

"Are these humans bothering you miss?"

"No, they were returning me home. I had run away you see and my father will be cross if we don't return home"

"I don't think they plan on returning you home miss. Humans don't like mingling with our kind"

"Our kind? What makes me think I'm one of you?"

"You can wear what you want but you will never be able to hide your red eyes. Come, we will escort you home"

"I don't think so"

I yanked my arm out of his deathly grip and twisted his arm around his back. He dropped his gun in pain and I flattened him into the ground. The other two went to move towards their leader, but Seer already had two guns pointed at them.

"I wouldn't move boys"

Grunting, I got off the man, kicking him square in the jaw. Bending down, I stared at him in dead in the eyes. Red eyes meeting red eyes.

"Just because you stage nines think you more superior than the humans or the other stages, does not give you the right to rule over them. Stage One's will still eat you, plain and simple"

After the incident at the gas station, we headed down to the Trion clan, so I could eat. All that ruckus made me hungry. The clan was small but they welcomed me with open arms. News travels slow with our clans and my news of my research had managed to reach them just in time. I spoke a few words with their council, they gave me their blessing if I needed any help in the near future.

Hal was quiet the whole time we moved. They had to wait outside, when I met with the clan, but I can sense that not everything was told to him. Seer was the first one to break the silence, considering he was the only other male who could speak.

"If you had only stayed in the truck Nina. What if someone had seen you?"

"Well someone did. I can't hide forever Seer. I just wish dad wouldn't keep me locked up, then I wouldn't need to go on these little adventures"

"He's just worried, especially after what happened with Nicole"

"Nicole was different, she was in a different time. The world is a wasteland now, and I need to do my job. Let's stop, I have a strange hankering for a hamburger. Hanging out with humans has made my body weird"

Seer sighed, but nonetheless, pulled into the next safe gas station. I bought a hamburger and the strange looks from the clerk behind the counter. It was rare that I even get an encounter with a human. I hoped I was covered enough. Sighing, I took my hat and scarf off and started to open the hamburger. Suddenly I felt the coolness of a gun on the side of my head. Great, I thought there was no one around.

"What exactly are you? You're blue just like them"

I heard to other guns click behind me and I snuck a look find Don and Seer pointing their guns at Hal.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you son"

"Since when should we side with a walker"

"Since her kind gives us our orders. I knew you were too stupid to start early"

"Why hasn't anyone told this child who I am or what I am?"

"Told me what?"

"I'm not a walker, as you call it. We are the Trions, an alien race that has been living on Earth for nearly five hundred years"

"Who are you?"

Hal lowered the gun but kept both hands on it, like I was going to rabid and jump out at him I don't blame him for being scared. All humans are scared of what they don't know or understand. Hence the state the world is currently in.

"She is the daughter of the man who we take orders from. All we have to do is take her back to base camp and if you don't mind, I would like to stop taking stops. Don drives slow enough as it is and it's a weeks journey away. So both of you shut up and get in the damn truck"
