Chapter 1 - 1: Breathe

" Wait, what?.."

Atlas asked shocked.

"How many times do you want me to repeat it, I got married, okay! And my wife and her daughter are gonna be here in less than two days, so I'm gonna need you to behave when they arrive, got it?! "

Is all Atlas Dad said, while grabbing his keys, and heading to work.

" What the Hell?! What does he mean by married?! I swear, I can't leave him alone by himself!

I left him alone for 1 week!...one! And he gets married?!"

I couldn't believe what I just heard, and I don't want too. How is he okay with what he just did?!

He hardly knows the women!

"Did he forget about my Mother that easily?..."

I couldn't take this hate, and betrayal I was feeling, I had to do something about it.

And I had the perfect thing...

" Atlas! heyyyy baby~!"

Some random chick said seducively while running at me.

"I've missed you~ and I couldn't wait to see you.." she said winking

Now...There is a little problem here.... I don't remember who the hell she is.

I mean, yeah she's hot, but I've been with many, and I never bothered to learn their names. Their just a one time thing.

So.. I did what any other guy would do in my shoes.

"Uhh, yeah no "

And I pushed her aside.

Now, of course she did what any other women did when I would blow them off.

She cussed me out, while throwing her bag at me.

But I didn't give two sh*ts, I just kept walking into the party.

I was greeted by my two childhood friends,

Eddie, and Natalie.

I've known Eddie since I was 7, and we've been best friends since then. If I need someone to talk to, he was always there. No matter what it was, he always sticked around. Even now.

Now, Natalie... she's a different story..

We met her when Eddie and I were 10.

She was new at the private school we would go too.

I remember how Eddie would always bother her, telling everybody not to go near her, because she had girl cooties.

Until one day, durning lunch, Eddie was telling the table behind her's, how contagious her cooties were.

When all of a sudden, Natalie gets up, and taps Eddies shoulder. And when he turns around, she gave him a kiss on the cheek.

And told him, he had her cooties now.

On that day, she gained our respect.

I can still remember how red Eddies face got. He couldn't even speak.

Ever since then, she stuck around.

And from their Eddie and Natalies bond grow bigger. But in 9th Grade, she had to leave to an academy in Boston her parents wanted her to go too.

So, she left.

And Eddie became a mess...

He need her, like he need air to breathe. I saw it in his eyes... How bad he was suffocating with out her.

I remember how he would beg me to make the pain stop.

So... As his best friend, I did what I would do anytime I didn't want to feel anymore.

I would drink my feelings away, and he did the same.

We'd go party until we were to wasted to remember anything.

He would get with girls that looked like Natalie, or girls that would act like her.

He was a trainwreck...

He became like me.

No matter how much he would drink, and party. He couldn't forget her.

He was in love.

When she left, she took a piece of him with her. She took his sanity...

When I would drive him home, all he did was talk about her. He was like a broken record. Repeating and repeating her name, until he was sound asleep.

From that day on, I made a promise to myself.

That I will never fall in Love like he did.

Because I didn't want to be a trainwreck like him...

From there, 4 years later, Eddie and I found ourselves waiting for Natalie at an airport.

While we waited, Eddie kept asking me if he looked good, or if he smelled weird, or if he should just go back home and change his clothes.

I couldn't seem to convince him that he was fine. When he was about to leave to go change for the 100th time, we heard a female voice scream his name.

And without turning around, he already knew who it was. I have never seen him run so desperately towards someone.

And when he had her in his arms, it was as if he was holding his breath for years. He inhaled so deeply, and closed his eyes.... he was breathing her in.

He had his breathe back...
