Belot was the oldest eel in the eel kingdom. The eel kingdom was a large wet mud and located not far from a new dam. Being the oldest, the other eels did not care about him. He was considered as eel who not useful anymore because his body had very weak. Only one eel who care well him, Beluta, his grandson. "Belot must be driven away from our kingdom. He had very old and useless," said a young eel. The words was approved by his friends.
Knowing that Beluto became angry. "Stop to say it! Do you also drive your grandfather away when they being very old? I think that you'll not do that if he is your grandfather!" Then Beluto went to home. He told his grandfather about the plan of his friends.
"It is no matter. Your friends do not know if the old eel is still useful. Let me see!" said Belot, laughed.
The dry season came. The eels realized that the dam construction was bad for their life. They were threatened drought. If their kingdom became dry, it was a doom for them. By the drought their residence became narrower. There was only little wet mud so they live crowded and nervous. Before the dam was built, the disaster never happened. The king hold any meeting to solve the water scarcity. But they could not find the way.
"If a month no rain, we are going to die," the king said sadly. People of the eels kingdom became panic. Only one eel who was not panic, he was Belot.
"Why is grandfather not panic?" Beluto asked.
"Why be confused? This problem can be solved if the eels to cooperate!" Belot said. How? "We have to look for seepage of water. A seepage of water is a sign that there is a leaky section of the dam. So, we will dig together to penetrate the dam. If success, the water will flow to here. Our kingdom will be prosperous again." Belot invited Beluto to the palace. They met the king.
"My king, we can solve the drought problem if the eels work together. Send all eels to find a seepage of water. Then we can dig it be a hole to penetrate the dam."
"It is a good idea!" said the king.
Unfortunately, the eels are a lazy nation. They would rather to sleep than to work. There were no eel who willing to work. They refused to work with a variety reasons: toothache, headache, abdominal pain, or others. Finally, only Belot and Beluto who did the work. At first, they looked for a seepage of water. They dug the soil when found it. But only two eels was powerless. How long time for them to finish the work? Belot met the king again and said, "If the king would come and pretend to go digging with us, I think that the other eels will come to work." The king agreed.
When the king came and worked with Belot and Beluto, the eel people be ashamed. They woke up from their sleep and participated to dig. Not until a week, the hole broke trough the dam. Water flowed from the hole. The eel kingdom became wet again. The eel peoples survived from the drought disaster. Then, the king appointed Belot to be a royal advisor. The young eels who planned to drive Belot away apologized. "Being old is not mean useless!" the king said. (*)
