"Please, bring these cakes and drink to the paddy field," said a grandmother to her grandson who was playing marbles with his friends. But Lindung ignored his grandmother's words. His grandmother repeated her words, "Lindung, bring these cakes and drink. It's a pity if your grandfather and his friends have not water to drink."
Lindung said sullenly, "But I am playing now. I'll do when the game is over."
"Your grandfather and his men are thirsty," said his grandmother. Reluctantly, Lindung picked up the cakes and drink which had prepared by his grandmother. Lindung's right hand carried a kettle and his left hand carried a bag which containing cakes, sugar, and cups. But Lindung's face like a cloud. "Be careful when crossing the railway," said his grandmother. Grudgingly, Lindung walked away to the paddy field. In fact, his friend named Rindang want to help him, but Lindung rejected his help. He did not want to bother his friend because the paddy field location was far enough.
The heat of sun add Lindung's indignation. At first, the load was feel light, but gradually it was feel heavy. To neglect his loads, Lindung counted numbers. Every fifty steps he stopped to rest. Actually, he wanted to throw his loads. "Ouch, you are a diligent boy!" A goatherd greeted him. Lindung felt shy to hear the compliment. Old woman who was carrying rice also said to him, "You're really a very filial boy. If I have a grandson like you, I will be delighted." Her words was felt sarcastic for him.
"If all kids diligently like him, then the world will be happy!" said a man who was bathing his buffalo in a river.
"It is not appropriate sentence for me," said Lindung to himself.
Lindung kept walking toward the railway. At the moment there was a train that was passing slowly. All passengers of the train saw Lindung and gave him a compliment, "Wow, he is a very diligent boy!"
Lindung terribly embarrased. "If they know the actual content of my heart," thought Lindung. After crossed the tracks, he had to down to a creek and went up to small dike. Then he continue his step from dyke to dyke. The location of his grandfather's paddy field was in the midst of vast rice fields.
A duck keeper saw him and said, "Really, you are a strong and diligent boy. I give two duck eggs as a gift for you."
"Oh, it is not a appropriate gift for me!" But his words was only spoken in his heart. The duck keeper put the eggs into Lindung's shirt pocket. "Thank you," said Lindung, shame.
There was a farmer who was digging and found several eels. "Hi, the diligent boy! Your grandfather is very lucky to have a grandson like you! These eels are worthy of you, as a gift!" said the farmer.
Soon, he arrived at his grandfather's fields. His grandfather was hoeing together with his friends. "Look, the water and the cake has arrived! Lindung, you have saved us from thirst. If there not water to drink, it is certain that we are will be fainted," said his grandfrather, "God know how to reply your goodness." Lindung felt so guilty and ashamed. Maybe God reprimanded him with the compliments. Lindung promised to himself that he would be sincere to do something. (*)
