Chapter 37 - You really prove me right every time.

''First, the only reason why you care about me is because of my sister. As for Jolene, the only person she cares about is her daughter. Brother in law, I know you are trying to what's morally right as a grown up and that is to be responsible for me because we are somewhat related but I don't really what that kind of sympathy.''

''Why do you have such a notion on why people care for you? What about you? Don't you love your family? If you didn't think Jolene could help, you wouldn't have being here, right?''

''What's the use? My love has only brought everyone pain. You are right, I came to Ren City because I wanted an escape and this was it but I was wrong to even think that Jolene would still care for me like she did back then. Now, she has a daughter whom she loves. She doesn't need me. Nobody does.'' Amala placed her cutlery down and wiped her lips. She picked her bag and stood up.

''Brother in law, this has nothing to do with you. It is a decision I made a long time ago. I am not holding a grudge against anyone, not Jolene, not my parents and definitely not Erica. I am simply just tired with life and want to take a long rest.'' Amala smiled and walked out.

Kai stood up and followed her. Amala stopped in front of the car and turned to ask him.

''Can I have ice cream? I'm suddenly craving some ice cream.''

''The doctor said…''

''Forget what the doctor said. If I die today, you are going to regret not getting me the ice cream instead of listening to what the doctor said.'' Amala said and cocked her brows.

''You are one hell of a brat. Come with me.'' Kai said and Amala chuckled and followed him towards the ice cream stall.

Not far from them, Kathy walked out of the same restaurant and saw them. She furrowed her brows and took out her phone to take a picture of them. She snorted and quickly went towards her car.

After taking the ice cream, Amala took a bit and moaned. She looked at Kai and pointed at the shopping mall across the road.

'What?'' Kai asked.

'If you don't buy things for me, you are going to regret it when I die…''

''You are definitely taking the opportunity to milk me. Let's go. Pick anything you want…''

Amala smiled happily and jumped excitedly as she went towards the mall. Kai looked at her and shook his head.

Kai sat down and watched as Amala changed in and out of various outfits. The ones he agreed with, he nodded his head. The ones he didn't agree with, he shook his head.

Amala sighed and slumped on the couch next to Kai. She turned to look at him and they laughed. They were unaware of the fact that Kathy had followed them into the mall and was taking pictures of them.

''Are you done?'' Kai asked.

''Yes, I'm done. We can go now.'' Amala stood up and they went to the counter to pay. Kai took out his black card and Kathy gasped and covered her mouth in shock.

''Let's go.'' Kai said after taking the bags from the manager. Amala followed him out to the car.

''Have you made new friends at school?'' Kai asked as he drove them back home.

''No, but I do have a desk mate and she seems like a nice person. Her name is Joy.''

''I see. How did school go today? Did those boys come to look for trouble again?''

''No! They completely acted as if I didn't exist. They must have being scared by you yesterday.''

''Next time, don't let them get away with it. If you don't stand up for yourself, they are going to keep doing that.''

''I know but I just didn't feel like standing up for myself. Each time I did that, it backfired on me and I turn out to be the bully. People don't really want the truth. As long as they can get someone to put the blame on, they don't care. That's what I learnt after transferring to five different schools. Anytime I stand up for myself, somehow I become the villain and get hated on and expelled. Maybe I'm not cut out for school.''

''That's why you hate school?''

''Mm. I absolutely hate school but here, I have to go to school because that's what my sister wants. Not what I want. After all, I have nothing to lose, whether going to school or not, I still have little time left.''

Muse Flats.

Kai pulled over and Amala got down from the car. ''Thanks for today. Goodnight!''

'Goodnight, Amala.'' Kai replied and drove towards the penthouse.

Amala held her bags securely and walked inside. She opened the door and saw Jolene sitting in the hall.

'Hi, good evening!'' Amala greeted, smiling.

'Amala, where have your being? The school called and said you skipped classes without permission. Leo said a man picked you up outside the school gate.'' Jolene stood up and asked right away.

Amala sighed. She could feel the accusation behind Jolene's words and that's what she hated. 'I'm tired, let's talk tomorrow.'' Amala said and walked towards her room.

''Stop there, Amala! What bags are those?'' Jolene asked.

''Clothes, obviously.'' Amala replied and entered her room and Jolene followed.

''Amala, where did you get those from? Who is that man you picked you up from school?'' Jolene asked aggressively.

''Why? What do you have to say this time? Do you want to know where I went to with that man? Do you know what your problem is, Jolene. You don't trust me.''

''What?''

''Shouldn't you ask if I am fine and if everything is alright first? The school called and told you I skipped school and that I got into the car of a man. Shouldn't you ask why I skipped school first? You really prove me right every time, Jolene. Also, you should learn how to respect other people's privacy. Just because is your house, doesn't mean you should come into my room without knocking.''
