Chapter 7 - I didn't ask you that...

Muse Meeting room.

When Kai entered the meeting hall, everyone stood up to greet him. Before they could even do that, he stopped them saying.

''There is a lot to talk about. Let's leave the pleasantries for another time.''

''He doesn't seem friendly at all.'' Martin muttered.

''I looked at your financial statement for the year and the number of clients that you handle in a month. The input output range is very wild especially with your qualifications. Jolene Abdul, Masters in Communication and Public Relations. Carine Hanson, Masters in Marketing and Secretarial Skills. Kiana Coleman, Degree in Public Relations, Kathy Berkham, Masters in Public Resource Management. Ernest Lukason, Masters in IT Communications and Techniques, Martin Filman, Masters in Computer Technology.''

Everyone at the table became quiet and listened carefully.

''I would think that with all these qualifications, you should be at the top when it comes to PR management but the annual report here shows that clearly, all of you have being wasting company resources and doing your own things. This is about to stop. This company has being around for the past two to three years but it is as if everyone here is a freshman.''

''If your workforce doesn't improve within the next three months then you can start looking for another job. Miss Abdul…'' Kai looked at Jolene.

''Yes, Sir… yes, Kai.'' Jolene looked up.

''I want you to write a proposal on how to improve how PR Management that we offer to our clients. Submit it by tomorrow.''

''Tomorrow?'' Jolene asked.

''Do you have a problem with that? I thought you were the ace of the whole team?''

''Alright!'' Jolene nodded.

''Miss Carine, I want you to make a list of all the clients and companies we lost deals with and submit it tomorrow along with the reasons given for cancellation of contract.''

'Yes, Sir!''

''Miss… Kathy?'' Kai turned to look at Kathy and furrowed his brows. She had applied excessive makeup and top of her blouse buttons were opened. ''Miss Kathy, I want you to get changed after this meeting. If you ever wear this kind of outfit to the office, then you can just leave. This is your workplace, not somewhere you can show your body off. I don't care if you were allowed to dress this way but all your outfits must be decent and buttoned all the way up. We are here to work.''

Kathy flushed and quickly buttoned up and nodded her head. ''Yes, yes sir.''

''Back to my point. I want you to make a market survey of all the potential clients that we can approach to work with. Outline the risks involved and the benefits of dealing with them.''

''Yes, sir.'' Kathy replied hastily.

''Miss Kiana, I want you to look into the company's database and make a list of all the various PR we've given to every single client along with the problems they came with.''

''Yes, sir''

''Ernest and Martin, I will let you know when I have something later on.''

''Yes, sir''

''Yes, sir!''

''That's about all!'' Kai said and stood up to leave. He turned and looked at Jolene. ''Miss Abdul…''

''Yes?'' Jolene stood up.

''Make me a cup of coffee, skimmed milk with lots of sugar.'' Kai said and walked away.

When he left, everyone's shoulders relaxed. Carine turned to Jolene and started laughing.

''Jolene, get me a cup of coffee, skimmed milk with lots of sugar.'' Carine repeated after Kai and chuckled.

''I can't believe he has the stomach for sugar after spitting all that vinegar into us.'' Kiana commented.

''Don't you think he is cute? After roasting us out, he asked for coffee with plenty sugar. He sure has a sweet tongue.'' Martin said and they laughed.

''What is wrong with my outfit? Why is he unnecessarily cruel?'' Kathy muttered.

''You should really look at yourself in the mirror and see if what you are wearing is appropriate. By the way, I think that I like this new CEO. He is quite interesting.'' Ernest stood up and said before going out.

Jolene took a deep breath before knocking on the door. She was very nervous and it showed on her face despite her many attempts at hiding it.

After all, Kai was the last person she expected to see or become her CEO.

''Come in!''

Jolene opened the door when she heard the voice. She walked to the table and placed the cup of coffee there saying. 'Your coffee, please!''

Kai picked the cup without looking at her. He took a sip and revealed a rare smile. This was just the right amount of sugar he wanted in his coffee. He looked up and asked. 'Is there anything else?''

''No!'' Jolene replied and turned to leave.

''You have a kid?'' Kai asked and looked at her.

''Yes… with my fiancé. He is still studying so we are not married yet.'' Jolene replied awkwardly.

''I didn't ask you that!''

''Huh?''

''I asked if you had a kid. I didn't ask about anyone else, Brown!'' Kai said.

Brown!

The name he gave her that night. That night had always been in her head for a long time.

''Since you don't want anyone to know about our past relationship, we will keep it that way but I hope you can be careful too. I think you are likely to reveal our relationship before anyone else.''

''What relationship? We don't have any relationship.'' Jolene said defensively.

''Aren't we schoolmates? I was your senior in school. What other relationship are you thinking about?'' Kai asked and cocked his brows questionably.

Jolene looked at him with a confused gaze. She wasn't sure if she was getting his message clear. Did he really forget what happened between them that night?

''Alright, I will keep that in mind'' Jolene said and walked out. He closed the door and sighed. ''What is wrong with him? Why does he seem so cold and distant?''

Jolene shook her head and returned to her desk.
