[A few hours before the demon invasion on Earth]
(George Ernestyn)
"Prepare all the units! We will begin the full-on assault on the demons shortly! Also, call my son and daughter here!"
"Yes, your majesty!"
As my servant ran out of the room, I slouched back on my throne. The 10-year war against the demons is approaching its end. With our last attack, we heavily damaged the demon king's army. This was the best opportunity in the last 10 years, and as the king of this world, Empyria, I couldn't let this chance go.
My two children, Kevin and Iris, entered my room and spoke in unison:
"Greetings father. Why did you call us here?"
"Hello. I called you here because I want both of you to join the army to destroy all the demons. Both of you are extremely talented individuals and this will be the last time you can get this much real battle experience. If you can survive this battle, your strength will increase leaps and bounds."
The two flashed a fearful face for a split second, before returning to their usual poker face.
"Yes father! We won't disappoint you!"
"Good, now prepare yourself. You will go in 30 minutes with the others. Until then, get your weapons and rest up. You will definitely need it."
The children soon left the room, leaving me alone on my throne.
'Haaah... If only they weren't so talented, then I wouldn't be doing this.'

As this was the most important battle since the beginning of the war against the demons, I tried to encourage and hype up the others in my group.
"Alright everyone! Even though there are still more enemies than here allies, we are way stronger than them, so we're going to be fine! Let's go!"
"Yeah! Let's go!"
I glanced at the rest of the soldiers in my group, which were composed of 19 other elite soldiers including my sister, before rushing towards the enemy's headquarters. Our group of 20 total people were one of the 10 groups positioned to charge into the west side of the demon's base. With a total of 200 soldiers on the west side, we were just supposed to kill every demon in sight before entering the demon's headquarters with the groups of the other directions, totalling 800 soldiers if none of the people on our side died, which was extraordinarily unlikely. At the same time we were baiting all of the enemies, another group of 2000 soldiers would dig through the ground to go straight to the heart of the headquarters to assassinate the demon king. While the other group would be going straight to the center of the enemy's base, most of the enemies would have already gone towards our group, making our mission extremely dangerous. Although our group would be dealing with most of the demons and ogres, the other group would have to fight the demon king, and since no one has fought the demon king and lived to tell the tale, we weren't sure how strong he was and we couldn't spare any soldiers to go on our side of the battle.
Even though we were close to the enemy's headquarters, most of the demons and all of the ogres stayed within the building, but that didn't mean this part was going to be easy.
The number of demons outside was still the same number of soldiers charging at them, however the average power and skill of a soldier was way higher than that of a mere demon.
When the demons saw us running at them, they also started rushing towards us. Meeting the eyes of the demon opposing me, I pulled my sword out of its scabbard and held it with both of my hands. I put so much strength into my grip that my fingers turned white. I concentrated so hard that I could barely hear the screams and shouts of my surroundings. We both closed the distance until we were just a few meters away from each other.
Putting my foot on the ground, I leaped towards the demon. I slashed my sword at the demon and he parried it with his claws. Sweeping at me with his other hand, I took a step back to dodge the attack and stomped the sandy ground so hard, a small dust cloud sprang from the ground and covered the demon.
I lowered my body and slashed at the demon's feet. My sword felt little resistance, and soon I heard an ear-splitting scream from inside the dust cloud.
"AAAHHHH!"
After the dust cloud was swept away by the wind, I could see the footless demon laying on the ground.
After severing the head of the defenseless demon with my sword, I sprinted towards a group of three demons.
I took ahold of my scabbard with my left hand while putting miniature explosives in it with my right before the demons saw me. I kept my sword with me by biting on the handle with my teeth.
After putting the explosives in my scabbard, I threw it at the three demons while using my hands to hold my sword again.
The scabbard nearly hit the back of one of the demon's heads, before getting caught in the hands of another demon.
"Hey! Be careful! Some idiot threw his sca-"
~BOOM~
Before the demon could finish his sentence, the explosives blew up, taking the scabbard as well as the demons with it.
While it's a waste of a scabbard, I had to make sure the demons wouldn't just run away from the explosives.
After the explosion went off, another demon came up to me and tried to slash me from my side.
Turning towards the demon, I ducked down to dodge the first attack. His other hand swiped down at me, but I parried it with my sword. While I was blocking his claws, I layed down with my back on the ground and my feet pointing towards the demon. I kicked the demon in the stomach from the ground with all the strength I could muster. The demon flew backwards and before he hit the ground, I threw my sword straight at his head. Before the demon had any chance to react, my blade already pierced through his head and killed him.
Picking my sword up again, I looked around myself to see how the other soldiers were faring. More specifically my sister.
I saw her spear beautifully arc through the air, before piercing straight through the heart of a demon.
Without wasting another second, she leaped towards the next demon and blocked the demon's claws with the shaft of her spear. She then speedily grabbed the wrist of the demon and slammed him to the ground. After that she immediately stabbed its head with the spear.
Since she seemed to be doing fine, I stopped paying attention to her and focused on the other soldiers. Most of them were killing off the demons one by one, while getting minor injuries. But some people also received quite severe injuries, and others even lost their lives fighting a demon.
I stopped looking at the others and continued forward, cleaving through all the demons.

The first phase of the battle was done. We have wiped out all the demons outside the headquarters, and the rest of the enemies are currently holed up in the building. After recuperating for a few minutes, we would continue straight into the enemy's base to act as the bait for the main group.
I used a small paper tissue to wipe off all the lingering blood on my spear. After I was done cleaning my weapon, I saw my brother walking towards me.
My brother noticed me looking at him and said:
"Hey, how did it go? I saw you wiping your spear a tiny bit ago."
"... It went alright."
I looked down at my spear, not meeting my brother's eyes.
"Just keep in mind to be careful, the dangerous part is still to come. Go rest up for now."
"Yes brother."
After my brother walked away from me, I looked around towards the other remaining soldiers. There were 36 casualties and 16 heavily injured soldiers who couldn't fight any further, leaving 748 soldiers who were capable of fighting in our group. This also includes the soldiers who have medium or minor injuries.
'It's going to be fine... It's for the greater good...'
I kept thinking to myself while waiting for the final battle.

It was time for the final part of the battle. The soldiers started getting up from the ground and walked towards the demon's headquarters.
The building had no windows, and was fully plated with some weird kind of purple metal. Since ogres had to be able to enter the building, the door was ginormous. It was at least 25 meters high and 10 meters long.
A few soldiers brought a massive battering ram to the front of the door. They kept on hitting the ginormous door until it broke down.
The moment the door broke down, a huge green fist could be seen punching the battering ram. The battering ram launched back towards a few soldiers and they instantly got crushed under the weight.
"Spread out! Don't let the ogres hit you! Remember, we just have to buy time and survive!"
Everyone instantly backed away from the door and I grasped my sword in both of my hands.
A few ogres and a dozen demons got out of the building, and behind them were countless more enemies.
"Haahaahha! These humans are so stupid! They rushed towards us with less than a thousand people!"
I quickly threw a handful of small grenades towards the enemies, but the demons all ran away from the explosives, while the ogres took the attack head-on and barely got a scratch on their body from it.
Because the demons were busy running away from the small explosives, a few of them immediately got slashed down by nearby soldiers, while others barely managed to block the attacks with their claws.
"Aaarrgghhh!"
The ogres charged at the nearest soldiers, attempting to smash them into mush, but the soldiers all immediately jumped back to dodge the attacks.
With each stomp and punch that hit the ground, the earth beneath our feet shuddered a bit. Although the demons could hover slightly above the ground with their wings, the soldiers couldn't and they had to focus to not accidentally trip.
The ogres and demons kept charging forward, and the soldiers fought back with all their strength.
It was time for the actual final battle.
