"Ugh! Just seeing your face is making my head ache," Anna complained upon seeing Lexus. She was scandalized when she woke up to him caressing her belly as if he would be a loving father.
'Wait, where am I? We were arguing just a while ago,' she thought. Then, she was alarmed when she realized that she was in the hospital.
"Why am I here?!" she asked. The last thing she recalled, they were arguing in a private room at a restaurant.
"You suddenly passed out," Lexus replied looking guilty.
"I passed out? Or did you hit me?" she asked suspiciously. She could perfectly recall that he was furious at her.
"Why would I hit a woman carrying my child?" he retorted like it was an obvious fact.
"Who knows?" she sarcastically replied. He was tightly gripping her wrists before, such that she wouldn't be surprised if he actually hit her. Then she realized something important.
"My baby! Is my baby alright?!" she asked in a panic when she realized that she could have fallen hard on the floor when she passed out.
"Where's the doctor? I need to talk to him," she tried getting out of the hospital bed but Lexus stopped her.
"Calm down. Our baby is fine," he said and covered her with the blankets again.
"It's just my baby," Anna retorted childishly.
"It has my genetic material so it's also my baby," Lexus stated matter-of-factly.
Anna glared at him. But she was surprised when she realized that he was speaking to her gently now. And he looked like he was treading on eggshells.
"Are you sure my baby is alright?" she asked again in worry as she caressed her belly.
"Yes. Our baby is fine. I've spoken with the doctor," Lexus assured her. She narrowed her eyes at him and decided to shut up in the meantime and ask the doctor later.
"Would you like some fruit?" he suddenly offered and Anna noticed the fruits on her bedside table.
'No wonder I smelled something good,' she salivated. The apples smelled so good that she almost said yes. But when she realized who was offering it, she instantly turned it down.
Anna frowned when he still peeled an apple, sliced it into pieces, and offered it to her.
"I said I don't want it," she said but she couldn't stop staring at it.
'What's this? Are my cravings starting?' she wondered as the scent of the apples enticed her.
"If you don't eat it on your own I'll feed you," Lexus smirked. He clearly noticed that she wanted it. "Should I feed you?"
"No!" Anna started eating, wondering what ploy Lexus had for playing docile. He kept watching her eat with a weird smile on his face.
"Please leave. I can take care of myself," she said when he just kept watching her eat. It was so weird that if the apples didn't look so good she would have stopped eating them already.
"No. I'll stay here with you until the doctor says you can leave," he shamelessly smiled at her.
"I won't marry you no matter how nice you treat me. Please leave," she attacked directly and he visibly froze. He took a deep sigh before speaking.
"Fine. If you hate marrying me that much, I won't force you. But please think about it. I will still take responsibility for my child. I'll hang around to make sure my child is safe. I won't let you abort it, ever," he eyed her seriously.
"Abort?!!" Anna almost screamed. "I would never! Who said I would abort . . ." she paused when she recalled that she had indeed uttered it in a fit of anger earlier.
"Oh no! No. That's not true, my baby. Mommy just lost it. I'm so sorry. Hang in there, okay? Mommy would never hurt you," she spoke caressing her belly as if it was already several months old.
"Grrr. This is all because of you. You were so annoying that I said such a thing. Please leave already. Just seeing you is stressing me out," she snarled at Lexus.
She wasn't really that much against him. But for some reason she didn't understand, just seeing him was irritating her. Perhaps because he kept insisting on marrying her earlier.
"You were the one who seduced me," Lexus muttered and she glared at him. "And now you're acting as if you hate me so much," he sighed.
"It's your fault for getting seduced," Anna countered but she felt guilty. She realized that she was being unfair.
"It's not like I hate you but please stop insisting on marriage. Aside from that night, we are complete strangers. Marriage is out of the question right from the start," she spoke nicely this time.
"We can get to know each other, starting now. And you can decide about the marriage later," Lexus said and held her hand. She didn't dislike the warmth but she pulled away.
"I am not disagreeing with marriage because I hate you. I just don't like marriage itself," she clarified.
"Then we can just cohabit. We won't get married but we will live together. I want to ensure the safety of my child," Lexus suggested and Anna stared at him.
"No. That's almost the same. I will never abort this child and I will take care of it properly so you don't have to worry about that. And I'll raise my child well."
"I also want to raise my child, Ms. Anna. I can't promise that I'll be a good father but I'll do my best and strive for that," the man said and Anna was shut up. She didn't respond so he continued.
"Oh, and if you are worried about it, I also have the finances to support you and the child. I'm currently the CEO of this company. You can drop a call if you don't believe me," he suddenly brought his ID card and business card as if she was looking for proof.
'It seems I really hit the jackpot. That company is huge and famous,' Anna thought. Ever since he brought her to that luxurious rooftop VIP room at the hotel, she already figured that he was loaded. But who would have thought he was the CEO of a famous company.
Not that she was worried about his finances. She was not in the least since she never intended to marry him in the first place so she didn't really care.
"I'm not interested. You don't have to brag," she said plainly.
"That wasn't my intention."
"I know," she was back to being sarcastic again so Lexus sighed.
"Ms. Anna, if you marry me, I won't just take care of our child. I'll also treat you well and do my best to be a good husband," he eyed her seriously.
Anna sighed deeply before saying, "People always say that." She had heard all kinds of promises that men had promised her friends. But in the end, they changed and all their promises were forgotten.
