The following day Anna went to work as usual. But she did not wear her engagement ring. She put it in her pocket to be ready in case her grandfather randomly decides to ambush her at the office.
Her day started well. She woke up early in the morning to prepare a proper meal. Ate her breakfast. Then went to work early.
But the mixed perfumes from everyone in the office made her rush to the restroom to throw up.
'Ugh! Why does everyone have to use all kinds of perfume? Couldn't they have used something a bit milder?' she thought in annoyance as her stomach hurt from throwing up.
She was hungry before break time even came so she took a break earlier than supposed to be and went out to have another meal.
When she returned, her boss was at her table waiting for her.
"I didn't know breaktime lasts an hour," he said sarcastically.
Anna got yelled at even though she apologized. She got so irritated that she talked back and said that that was the first time, since she joined the company, that she ever spent a long break time.
Fifteen minutes before lunchtime began, her boss suddenly sent her more work to do and said that it was urgent and he needed it by two in the afternoon. She accepted it since she thought she could finish it in an hour.
But after checking it, she realized that even three hours was probably not enough. She badly wanted to throw it at the back of his head as she caught a glimpse of it before the elevator closed.
"That bastard! He clearly had a grudge because I talked back to him," she muttered to herself and covered her mouth when she realized that she spoke louder than she intended.
Her colleagues laughed and assured her that they understand and won't be telling him.
One of her colleagues volunteered to buy lunch for her and she couldn't be more grateful. She couldn't skip her meals. The doctor had prohibited her from doing that. And she doesn't want to deprive her baby either.
Anna quickly started her work so she could eat as soon as she could. She was so pissed at her boss that she herself was amazed at herself when she finished it in one hour and enjoyed the other hour eating her lunch.
She had her chin up when her boss personally came to retrieve what she had finished, probably expecting her to fail so he could yell at her again.
"This better not have any errors," he said before leaving and Anna couldn't stop herself from rolling her eyes the instant he turned his back.
When the day was finally over, she felt so exhausted that she didn't even know how she went to the parking lot.
Her eyes narrowed when she spotted Lexus' car beside hers. She sighed in exasperation when he got out. He even had flowers for her.
"Anna, here are flowers for you," he said and she just stared at them and didn't accept them.
She noticed that he glanced at her hands and stared at them for a few seconds when he didn't spot the ring he gave her. He clearly wanted to ask but didn't.
Anna ignored it and didn't offer any explanation either. Nor did she accept the flowers. She was too tired to even hold such a heavy-looking bouquet.
'Hmph! Suit yourself. He even just calls me by my name as he pleases. We're not even close.'
"I'll drive you home," he offered when she just stared at him.
"Sure," she agreed weakly. She was too tired to tell him off or argue with him. She got in the car quickly before one of her workmates spots them.
"Shall we have dinner first?" he invited.
"No. I just want to go home and lie on my bed," she said and before she knew it, she fell asleep.
. . .
Anna woke up at the scent of something appetizing. She was still sleepy but she was suddenly hungry and wanted to eat. She yawned and stretched as she walked to her kitchen.
'Eh? How did I end up in my bed?'
It flashbacked in her mind that Lexus picked her up and drove her home.
'But how did he get me inside my apartment?'
She gasped when she saw a man wearing an apron cooking something. There were already several dishes that were already done.
"L-Lexus?"
"Oh, Anna. You're right on time. It's almost done," he said like it was perfectly normal for her to wake up to him cooking in her apartment.
He did look hot even in an apron and he looked a bit more like a good husband prospect but that wasn't the point.
"How did you open my door?" She had to wonder if he somehow knew her passcode or picked her lock.
"Ah, you were sleeping soundly and I didn't want to disturb you so I brought you in. I'm sorry for intruding. I rummaged your bag for the key," he reasoned.
'Right. The key was in my bag. I always bring it in case I forgot my passcode. But doesn't he know that rummaging in a woman's bag without permission is extremely rude?'
"You could have just wakened me up."
"I'm sorry," he said but he didn't look like he truly regretted what he did. Anna sighed and gave up. She's too hungry to pick a fight.
'I was too tired to cook anyway. If he didn't cook I probably would be eating delivery food.'
"Fine. I'm hungry anyway," she sat at the table and waited for the food. She watched in amusement as he prepared everything and set it up on the table.
If she was being honest, she was impressed that he could cook and plate it beautifully that it looked even more delicious. And it was even more amazing when it was truly appetizing.
"Mm, this is good," she praised as she had another mouthful.
"I'm glad that it is to your liking," Lexus smiled at her.
"Hey, eat already. Stop staring at me or I'll choke," she scolded when he just kept watching her eat.
"Seeing you enjoy yourself was just too pleasing," he said and she gulped. She almost choked on her food.
"Are you alright?" he handed her a glass of water.
"Are you purposely trying to make me choke on my food?"
"No. I'm sorry. I'll dig in now," he said and finally ate too.
