As usual, Ben never missed a day not visiting Sarah's house. It was so hard to fight the feeling of not seeing Sarah for a day. Moreover, there was a reason he came to Sarah's house so that he could visit and see the little one in the hospital.
Whether it's offering to deliver breast milk, or taking Mrs. Katie who visits the little one to the hospital, replacing Sarah who has not been allowed to travel far after giving birth. Her body still couldn't be tired and she still needed to rest, and Ben, took the opportunity to continue to see the little one, as if he was the baby's father, even though he was also busy.
As a student, Ben's assignments were too much to ignore, until his parents started to get annoyed seeing Ben not being focused on his education.
Like this time, when Ben came home the night after from the hospital, and coincidentally, Ben's mom came home from out of town.
Ben is the only child of a busy businessman couple. His parents were rarely home because they had to do many of their business trips.
Therefore, Ben is used to not depending on his parents and is used to living comfortably on his own. Especially when he already knows Sarah and is close to Sarah's family, he is not too lonely.
"Ben, where are you from, honey? How did you come home so late?" said Mrs. Lauren, Ben's mother.
Mrs. Lauren hugged Ben who had not been home for two months and saw her only son.
"Ah, Mama's home? How come you didn't tell me, Mom? Yesterday you called but you didn't say you wanted to go home, right?" asked a surprised Ben.
"Yes, I really shouldn't have gone home. It's just that because I got a call from your campus this afternoon, that's why I went straight home this afternoon, and on purpose, I didn't tell you," replied Mrs. Lauren as she pulled Ben's hand towards the living room and sat with her to eat Ben's favorite Pandan Bread that his mother brought.
Hearing the word campus, Ben began to make a face that was awkward and guilty.
"Ben, why are you like this now? Your study is messy. Your lecturer complains that you rarely come in. I am embarrassed, Ben. Your lecturer also said, you only studied a few times after being transferred to the current campus," said Mrs. Lauren while angry with Ben. However, the mother still could not bear to scold her only child excessively.
"That's okay, Mama. It's just the lecturers who don't like me. After all, I only skipped a few times, really!" he answered casually and didn't care about the problem of his lecturer who often reprimanded him for often skipping.
"Yeah, it's okay with you, but it's I'm who's embarrassed. Not to mention that when your papa comes home, you keep asking about your lectures, why don't you have to keep covering it up, anyway?" Ben's mama scolded again.
However, still Ben did not respond to it while shoving the pandan jam bun into his mouth.
"What's keeping you busy, Ben? About girls?" asked Ben's mother who immediately made him stop chewing the bread in his mouth.
Ben turned and smirked at his mother and then went back to chewing.
"It's true, the child is starting to date! I already guessed this. But thank God. Finally, you want to be close to a girl because I almost thought, my son who is too handsome, doesn't even like girls!" his mother chirps until he chokes. Ben quickly ran to the kitchen to get some water and drink it.
"What the hell, Mama? I'm normal. If you've never seen me hanging out with women in the past, that's natural. Because I haven't found the right one for me, Mama. And now, I've got it!" he replied confidently and rejected the notion that he was an abnormal man.
"Oh, thanks to God, if that's the case! I thought my only child was... hahaha," his mother said with a grin.
"Is that what you think is special, isn't it? How hard is it for you to get her? You're so inhumanly handsome?" Mrs. Lauren continued again and was still laughing.
"Special girl, Mama. She limited edition. Like no other on earth!" Ben replied with a big smile and assured his mother that his son was really in love with this woman.
"Which girl, anyway? Why are you so curious? Do you have her photo?" asked the mother curiously.
"Oh, just a minute, Mama! I'm sure you'll like my choice!" Ben replied enthusiastically showing a photo of Sarah, his idol girl.
When he saw a photo of Sarah who was indeed beautiful and elegant, complete with her veil, Ben's mother nodded appreciating that the girl Ben chose was really beautiful and worthy to be paired with Ben.
While listening to Ben who praised Sarah's many achievements and the advantages of her idol, his mother smiled. Unexpectedly, Ben could be this interested in a woman, even though she understands that his son is indifferent to anything.
However, the mother's hands trembled when she saw a photo slide showing the woman in the photo sitting on a hospital bed, holding a baby that looked like it had just been born. It was confirmed that the baby was the child of the girl he had praised earlier.
Ben noticed his mother's attitude was not like before. Ben approached his mother, then looked at the phone screen where her thumb had stopped at the photo of Sarah who had just given birth. It was the first photo he took when Sarah had just finished giving birth.
"Whose child is this, Ben?" asked Mrs. Lauren in a trembling voice. But Ben didn't answer and took the phone from his mother's hand. Then Ben was about to leave before his steps were stopped by his mother's screams.
"Ben?!"
Mrs. Lauren scream's, which he had never heard in his life, made Ben stop walking, and then turned to face the mother.
"Answer my question! Whose child is this?" His mother's voice trembled with anger that was already mounting.
"Once again, I asked you. Is this your child, huh? Did you impregnate someone else's child?" Mrs. Lauren's words made Ben's ears ring. Unexpectedly, his mother accused him like that.
"That child is not my child, Mama!" Ben's firm answer made his mother a little relieved. However, it didn't last long as Ben continued his sentence.
"Now, he's not my child, but soon it will be my son, Mama," said Ben seriously looking at his mother's face which was already reddened with emotion.
"What do you mean?! Explain to me now!" asked the mother again.
"That baby is Sarah's child, from her dead husband. Sarah married Alex, my friend who you know, Mama. She is the woman that I couldn't get for a long time. But now, I won't let her go again, Mama!"
Ben's answer this time made his mother's body go limp.
Mrs. Lauren's legs trembled, unable to withstand the weight of her body which had also weakened. Her head almost hit the floor if Ben didn't catch her right away.
"Mama, wake up, Mam! Mama!" Ben called his mother while patting her cheek to wake her up.
Quickly, Ben carried his mother to lie down on the sofa properly. Ben rubbed eucalyptus oil on his mother's nose and head, and his efforts paid off. Mrs. Lauren woke up from fainting and looked at Ben's face blankly.
"Ben, please try to tell me first, what have you been doing all this time!" His mother asked Ben to tell her everything he had done so far.
Ben tells all the stories of the first time he meets and intersects with Sarah. He didn't miss a single moment, including the way he liked Sarah, who was someone's wife, which made his mother raise her eyebrows in surprise at her son's choice.
Word by word, sentence by sentence Ben said, his mother listened carefully. Until Ben told her about Sarah who had recently given birth.
With Sarah's status as a young widow with one child, it is truly inconceivable how her only child would destroy his future by liking a woman like that.
"I'm disappointed with you, Ben! I can't understand your way of thinking. Frankly, I'm angry, very angry with you! For this, I can't make a decision and let your papa decide everything, and you have to be ready to be disappointed!"
His mother's words and threats pierced Ben's ears. However, it did not in the least dampen his intention to continue to take Sarah as his future companion.
"Whatever decision Mama and Papa make, I will not leave Sarah. For years I have loved her. And now, when she has started to accept me close to her, I have left? I'm not stupid, Mama. I don't want to regret it both times!"
Ben left his mother who still couldn't believe his attitude just now.
Ben who is upset prefers to leave and return to Sarah's house, even though he had thought about going to the hospital to see the little one so that his annoyance would soon subside.
