Chapter 75 - 75- Inspector Ryan In Action

Inspector Ryan who had read all the details about the tall masked lady assassin in Kaizermagus Central Library, as recorded by Kaizermagus Police, was still in town. He had even met and congratulated the heroic gatekeeper. Then he called the head of Traffic Control System of Kaizermagus. Today he rented a bike and headed towards the office of Kaizermagus Central Traffic Control System. Loads of PCR vans were standing outside the office. He parked his bike and entered the office.

Since he was a complete stranger, the constable at the entrance looked at him with suspicion, but when he saw the number of stars on his shoulder, he stood up to salute Ryan who nodded his head and went inside from where he obtained the personal telephone number of the officer-in-charge. Ryan met another constable on the way and asked him if he was the officer in charge there.

On sighting Ryan's costly goggles, long and power-evoking moustache and the stars on his shoulder, the constable promptly saluted him which Ryan also acknowledged. The constable said, "Yes sir, he is inside the monitor room. Just turn left."

"Thank you," said Ryan as he went inside the air-conditioned monitor room. As he felt the chill, he asked himself: What's the need of an air-conditioner in winter? A sturdy, middle aged man was sitting on a revolving chair before a vast computer screen. Ryan guessed he might be the officer-in-charge, since he was alone in that room engrossed in his job on the computer. Initially he didn't notice anybody around him until Ryan's shadow fell on his computer screen.

The officer in charge then revolved around his chair and stood up.

"Sorry, I came unannounced Sir," Ryan said as he extended a hand for a handshake.

The officer responded, "It is ok. Hi, I am Paul. Please have a seat."

As Ryan sat beside Paul, the host said, "Actually I was looking at those clips you asked for. It took me a day to assemble them from all the traffic posts. Firstly, I had to check all the camera footages of our city on that day from 10 to 12 am. Then I marked the car of the assassin in nine footages. First I saw her car number at Gate Bazaar traffic post. It means she was living near that place, may be in some house or hotel.

We ran for the car number and it turned out to be a stolen car. After handing over the information to Kaizermagus Police, they searched for the car and found it near Gate Bazaar area. The Police extended enquires to all the hotels and house owners, but failed to obtain any information about the lady."

"Having now abandoned the car, it is more difficult to find her," said Ryan.

Paul was very excited to show Ryan all the nine footages of the car when he discovered that Ryan was catching up very fast with all the information he was being given. As Ryan zoomed the photos, he was disaapointed that the driver's face appeared blurred, while the tall female driver cum assassin was wearing a cap even inside the car.

Ryan then said: "See! This assassin is very smart and cautious because she's a professional. Even inside the car she is wearing a cap to conceal her identity, then drives to Kaizermagus Central Library to park. I have seen the parking lot; it's never crowded and has no camera. She must have taken off the cap, then wore the mask before entering the library and then we know…"

"Hmm, I could not agree more," said Paul. "So what do you think of it? There was only one case at Rejismundi's Ruth and then one more at Kaizermagus. What do you make of it?"

"Initially I assumed there was an ulterior or personal motive behind that attack, but the reverse is actually the case. This lady is a professional assassin who has killed several times before and may even be a contract killer. I do not know how far I am correct."

Paul who was in agreement with this line of thought then asked "Do you think she will do it again? I mean will she be able to find the last victim again?"

"Yes definitely. I do not know whether she will be successful or not in hitting the same victim again, but definitely she will try very hard to find him and if possible hunt him down."

The glint in Paul's eyes which seemed to be an indication of his interest in this case was quite encouraging to Ryan who now felt he was having a solid case after a long time and that Paul was also glad that he could become a part of the investigation. Paul asked, "Do you think she will hit someone else?"

"I don't know," Ryan looked confused. "But I think this lady assassin is after a group of people. If the group consisted of two people, she will stop, but if the group's members are more than two, then she will hit her next target very soon.

This lady might be after a group that had wronged someone in the past or this may be about some secret treasure or money. I can only assume that anything is possible. If I let my imagination take over reality, then I will be forming theories and fogging my mind and thereby lose clarity of thought."

Paul nodded appreciatively.
