On that day, the students learned teleportation and flying in Julian's class, continuing the previous session.
"That's great. You did so well." Julian praised as all the students returned from teleporting the field to the hills and back onto the field. That was the progress of the previous encounter after they could only teleport to nearby places.
However, that didn't make them immune to its effects. Some vomited, and others felt nauseous. Apparently, they needed more practice to get used to it.
"Let's change to flying. I want you to fly fast around the hills to see how stable you are in that situation," Julian continued excitedly.
But, it did not get the same response. Some sat on the grass and were still recuperating.
"Prof, we can't do this anymore," Jacob complained. He clutched his stomach from his nausea.
"Why can't we learn just one? It would be the same." Ezra chimed in. His condition was almost the same as Jacob's.
Julian could only stare at them. He shook his head in disbelief. "I already said teleportation requires the companion to know clearly the destination. It won't work if the companion never visits it." He repeated the explanation in the previous meeting. It was the basis that teleportation required a clear destination and sufficient magic. Without them, teleportation would not occur.
"We can fly up the hills."
"What if you're in an enemy siege? How will you escape?"
"We-"His sentence was stuck while thinking about the right answer. "But it would be useless without a companion." Instead of continuing his answer, he refuted it.
"That's true. But at least it gives you a chance to save yourself." It wasn't Julian. It was Vega. Humans could teleport as long as they touched their companion. "Don't you want to live?"
Asked that obviously made the students silent. They no longer argued with him.
Julian sighed. "Okay, we'll take a five-minute break."
"Prof."
There were complaints everywhere.
"Take it, or we'll continue our lesson." That was final.
While the students were resting, Julian walked over to Carl and Miku sitting among them.
"Do you want to join the hunting team?"
Carl looked up and gave him a confused look. "Hunting team?"
"Haven't you heard of it? It was a popular competition between academies."
He gave a shake. He only knew about the sword competition. And even then, from a visit to the stand of the sword club. "Is that a club?"
"Yeah, it's a club, but we don't open public registration. We only offer potential students."
He understood. Perhaps that was the reason he had never found the stand.
Wait. So what did that have to do with Carl?
"And you offered me?" he asked doubtfully. Even though, in the beginning, Julian had said it.
"Yes, Carl. I want you to join the team. What do you think?"
Carl thought about it. But when the corner of his eyes caught Miku, he realized something. "You want me or Miku to join your team?" he asked skeptically. People were more attracted to Miku than him. Moreover, it was for the hunting team. Julian must aim for her power.
"I won't lie to you. Miku is also the reason I recruited both of you. But you're also important. I can see the potential in you."
His words sounded reassuring. But strangely, he didn't feel that way. "I'm not as good as Miku." Not that he was being modest. Carl was just stating facts. Thus, Julian or anyone else wouldn't have high expectations of him.
"Who said that? You just need more time. I believe you will shine like her."
Carl looked at Julian in hesitation, then Miku, and back at him. "Is it only us?" Apparently, he was starting to show interest.
Julian smiled. "No. I'm going to ask Darren and Irvin after this. There will be others too, but I'm still monitoring them."
"Do you usually recruit first-year students?"
"Yes. We need new talents to train."
Carl nodded in understanding. He was a little guilty of having poorly thought of him.
"It will be an excellent opportunity for you to learn many things. Since the team is managed by the academy, there will be several teachers teaching you."
Yeah, that sounded good. But rather than that, Carl was more curious about the hunting competition. "What is the hunting competition?"
"It's similar to the last hunting task, but on a different level. It allows the team to use their full abilities as fighters. That's why we recruit from the first year. You may not join the match this year. But you can develop skills during training. That's a wonderful opportunity, right?"
Yeah, he was right. Carl could use the opportunity to level up.
"I'll speak to Darren and Irvin. And I'll give you the details later."
Carl nodded before Julian left him. Then he saw him approaching Darren and Irvin, sitting a little away, then talking to them. Maybe, as he told him.
"Are you sure you want to join the team?" Miku asked after hearing the conversation.
"I don't know. But it looks interesting. We can take a look first."
She gave a nod of approval. "That's a good chance only if you agree to do it."
One thing he realized. Miku never forced him. From the start, all decisions were in his hands, even though she strongly influenced him.
Before long, Julian came back to the front. Five minutes was over. He continued the class according to his words.
It was flying practice.
It was on a different level from before. Students must stabilize their footing while flying fast. Also, they must descend before reaching the destination. That was definitely hard.
They fell down several times, although they were flying low. Even though the teacher wanted them to be able to stand on their feet after rolling over. However, it was never as easy to say.
"Run! You're hiding from your enemy," he shouted to the students who had just fallen to the ground. Some complained of pain from the impact. "It's about your life. You don't want to die, do you?"
"Why can't we use teleportation?" A student complained while trying to get up.
"You said it was better to fly. Besides, are you sure you want to teleport under these conditions?"
Their body was still sore then, followed by nausea. Who wanted that?
"No, Professor!" he shouted. He began to run even though he couldn't do it properly because his body hadn't recovered from the fall.
"Then run! Find a hiding place! Save yourself!"
That was how the class went that day. Teleportation and flying. It seemed trivial. In fact, it took a lot of hard work.
