Upon exiting the tunnel, all four girls ended up on a cobblestone street at night. Pyrrha, Raven and Neopolitan looked around in interest. The area they were in had numerous buildings like those in Vale. So far, nothing really screamed 'different world' for most of them.
Everyone but Neo, who was staring straight up.
"Um.. Kind of looks... normal?" Pyrrha stated in a hard-to-hide disappointed tone.
"Oh, does it?" Neo said with a hint of mirth.
"Yes it's not really too different from Remnant at a first glance" Raven stated.
"Is THAT so.." Neo barely contained her growing amused tone.
Neopolitan was the first to look up. Her mouth slowly opened in shock. She looked at Neo, as if asking for an explanation. Neo just smiled at her and did a half shrug. Raven and Pyrrha, not having heard anything from Neo, looked over at her. Seeing both look up, they too decided to do the same.
Their eyes widened in surprise as soon as they did.
Hanging up in the sky was a yellow crescent moon. That enough would be a sign they were in another world. But the moon had a giant, creepy face. It looked like it was smiling down at them. Seeping from the moon's teeth was blood, for some reason. It looked as if the moon was looking down at them.
"What the fuck.." Pyrhha asked with a flat tone.
"Pyrrha swore..." Neo fake gasped with Neopolitan.
"No, I agree with her sentiments.. What the fuck? Is that the moon?" Raven turned to her and asked.
"Sure is. Now that I think about it, this world is absolutely bizarre. Almost Popeye bizarre, actually.." Neo admitted with a hum before looking up and seeing the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA) at the very top of the city.
"We're actually in Death City too, nice!" Neo nodded her head with a small smile.
"Death City doesn't exactly sound nice though. Why don't you tell us what we're getting into, Neo?" Pyrrha asked.
"Sure. We'll walk and talk on the way to the DWMA. I wanna sign up to be a teacher or student there and see if I can teach some moves. Speaking of.. I can buy weapon mastery now. It's... seventy-five thousand points though.." Neo whimpered at the large number figure.
"Really? Relax.. if you really wanted something, I can buy it for you" Raven sighed.
"Really!? Oh Hell yeah!" Neo begun to cheer but stopped as Raven put her hand on her shoulder and got close to her ear.
"But you have to call me your 'Sugar Mommy' of course" Raven whispered sultrily in her ear.
"You're starting to awaken something in me I think.." Neo laughed nervously to herself before starting to explain the world of Soul Eater to them.
"So.. in the beginning, in the world before this, a guy named Shinra created a god to create and maintain order in a new world. The god he created was named 'Death' who.. kinda took a bunch of dangerous powers from a bunch of people and made the world we're in now. In this world, souls determine strength, pretty much. There's magic too and it has a profound effect on people. Gives them destructive impulses and it's called 'the sway of magic'. So.. in this new world you can eat souls. Eating innocent human souls turns you into a demonic human. So Death made an academy for people to fight against them called the DWMA. They have 'Meisters', who wield the weapons. And they have the weapons, students who turn into weapons. Their goal is to eat ninety-nine demonic souls and one Witch soul to turn them into magically powered weapons called 'Death Scythes'. Get the gist?" Neo finished and asked, seeing the confused faces of her companions.
"How... do people turn into weapons?" Pyrrha asked, resisting the urge to put her hand up.
"If I remember correctly.. Death and one of his magic buddies named Eibon collaborated and made them based off... Excalibur... and they basically made these human/weapon hybrids that exist even today. There was a Witch named Arachne that kinda progressed the project and killed other Witches to make them. So what turned out to be an inhumane process was turned down by Death and Eibon, then used by Arachne and the descendants of the subjects are all over world. The weapon and Meisters go kill Witches due to some eight hundred year feud. So it's Death's forces versus Witches versus Demonic humans" Neo explained.
"Interesting. I have a question then" Raven began to ask until they spotted a man in a white stitched up lab coat with a screw on his head, followed by a girl with pigtails.
"Now what do we have here? Four Witches, brazenly walking into Death City without their soul protect on? If I didn't know any better, I would say you're asking for a fight" The man said while turning the screw slowly.
"Uh..." Neo looked around, but they were the only ones there.
Neopolitan, Raven and Pyrrha all looked at her for what they should do next.
"Professor.. do you think one of them could be from before..?" The girl asked, furrowing her brows.
"Hm... unlikely. Look at their souls for me, Maka. What do you see?" He asked, seeming calm despite the circumstances.
"Oh, right!" Maka focused on them and her eyes glowed before she stumbled back.
"Wh..What's with their souls!? They're all so.. powerful and strange.. The black haired one's looks like a tempest.. it's rugged and.. bird-like? But it looks... calm and tranquil? The red haired girl's looks.. I.. think.. like steel? It looks like a magnet? It's also burning.. And it looks so tough but it feels so.. accepting? The identical girls.. one looks demonic and.. illusory? There's three different colors and it feels... ugh.. like it's sadistic.. The last one.. scares me.." Maka trailed off and received a nod from the man.
"Professor Stein.. what is that? Hers is bigger than the rest.. The red head has a soul the size of her body. The black haired one has a soul twice the size of her body. The demonic one has a soul a bit bigger than her body but hers is.." Maka trailed off again, this time getting a scoff from Neo.
"Oh for god sakes! Enough build up! What's my friggin' soul look like already!?" Neo shouted impatiently.
"Hey! Don't rush me, shortstack!" Maka tried to mock her.
"And what if I am!? I'm more 'stacked' than you'll ever be" Neo retorted, enraging Maka.
"Maka, please. Describe it for me" Stein stopped her from running at Neo with a book.
"Ugh.. fine! Hers is.." Maka looks up.
"Huge.. It's like.. a mix of destructive elements? I see fire.. lightning.. something demonic.. something.... divine? Some kind of indescribable animal is mixed in too.. And something.. uh.. like a dragon? On top of that it looks so.. flippant and casual? Like it just goes with the flow. What's with these Witches? They have such weird souls, Professor" Maka asked, looking up at Stein, who seemed to be in thought.
"I take offense to that! We're not weird.. just different!" Pyrrha retorted her claim.
"Maka's description is right on the dot, I'm afraid. Souls like yours are incredibly unique, even for Witches. I'll have to dissect you lot and see what's inside.." Stein grinned.
"Wait! Professor they don't feel like evil souls!" Maka got in front of him as Neo, Raven, Pyrrha and Neopolitan got ready to fight.
"Yeah.. but their souls are so unique.. it'd be so fun.." Stein hummed to himself and thought seriously.
~Judging from their souls, they really don't have any malice in them. I likely wouldn't survive a full fight with them anyway. I'll have to wait until Spirit and Sid get here~ Stein pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
"Okay look.. we got off on the wrong foot here. We're not Witches. We just have a decent amount of magic powers. We're not planning to kill or destroy anyone human, okay?" Neo put her hands up in a disarming manner as a scythe flew at her from above.
Catching it by the pole, she twirled it around playfully and slung it over her shoulder.
"Oh, Spirit. Just in time" Stein said monotonously.
"Hey! How did you.. Wait, no. HOW are you holding me!?" The scythe said as Neopolitan hopped over in excitement and looked it over.
"These are the demon weapons I was telling you about earlier" Neo showed Spirit off, despite his protests.
"Though she is a pretty girl.." Spirit muttered.
"Ugh.. Papa's the worst.." Maka scowled as Spirit's scythe blade slowly leaked a few tears.
The scythe in Neo's hands glowed a bright white before turning into a red headed middle-aged man that landed next to Stein. He looked pleadingly at Maka, who gave him the cold shoulder.
"Wait! Maka, please! Papa didn't mean it!!" He begged his daughter, who hid behind Stein.
Neopolitan and Neo both broke into a giggling fit, hiding their mouths with their hands. Soon enough, Spirit fell to the ground in dejection. Despite the situation, he got into fetal position and cried comedic tears.
"Hmm... well anyways. What did you want here in Death City?" Stein asked, ignoring Spirit's despair.
"Actually we wanna sign up to be teachers. If that doesn't work? At least let us live here and we can help out your students and teachers in exchange for not being hunted" Neo shrugged in a non-commital manner.
"For that, you'll have to renounce the Witch community and talk to Lord Death. Who might decide to just kill you anyway" Stein finished his cigarette and tossed the butt away.
"I'll take that gamble. You did see our souls, right? We won't be... 'much'.. trouble!" Neo hesitated at the end.
"Mm.. well, alright. Follow me" Stein shrugged right back at her.
"He kinda feels similar to Neo, doesn't he?" Pyrrha whispered to Raven and Neo, comparing the both of them.
"She's more flamboyant I think. But the carefree attitude I can see" Raven commented as a boy ran up to Maka, showing concern.
~So Soul's already been injured and Maka's afraid of him getting hurt? We're in the Crona arc then huh?~ Neo thought to herself as she watched Maka and Soul leave after saying their goodbyes to Stein and cautiously watching the four of them.
Soon, they started walking. On the way to the DWMA, they spotted the Zombie, Sid watching them. Spirit was behind them, watching their every move. There were a few more upper class students and faculty spotted by them, making Neo snort in amusement.
"Something funny, Witch?" Spirit asked.
"Besides the fact I said we're not Witches? The level of caution you guys have. I understand Witches and Death have a bad history but you know demonic humans are way worse, right?" Neo casually said while following Stein.
"Actually the destructive magic you possess makes you far more dangerous than the average Kishin" Stein retorted.
"Yeah, the 'average' one. What about a Demon God? A 'Kishin'?" Neo brought up, making Stein go quiet.
"Well, I suppose if the Kishin were strong enough.." Stein thought to himself.
Soon enough, they entered the academy. The students in the halls all nervously watched them as they were escorted to Death's room by Stein and Spirit. They entered the room, filled with giant guillotines on the way to a large platform and a tall mirror. On the platform, was a figure cloaked in black with a silly mask and large white, blocky hands.
"Oh, hello hello! Why I haven't seen a Witch in person for hundreds of years!" The figure said in a playful voice.
Neo knew it was a facade. His true voice was deep and intimidating. His giant, foam finger looking hands could crack heads open with ease with just a single chop.
"Yo! How's it going, Death!? I'm Neo and these are my NON-Witch friends, Raven, Neopolitan and Pyrrha! Did I mention how we're NOT Witches? 'Cause we're not!" Neo greeted Death right back.
"Ho? But I can very clearly feel your magic, young lady" Death retorted, still using his playful voice that reminded Neo of 'Tobi'.
"Yeah but didn't people like Shinra Kusakabe and Arthur have some 'magic' like powers too?" Neo casually commented, making Death go still.
Stein and Spirit looked confused though. Both looked at Death for any clarification on what she was talking about.
"I see.. We do have much to talk about, since that knowledge has been lost to all but me and.. er.. one other" Death called forth a table and knelt down, pouring cups of tea.
"Don't call him... please don't" Neo groaned and took a seat opposite of him, encouraging the others to join.
And so started a meeting between four world traversing Witches, Death, a deadbeat Dad Deathscythe and a Meister with a screw loose.
It was an interesting first day in the new world.
