A/N: This bit takes part during the same time Valier and Luna Valkyr fight.
A/N: Just gonna say this, Runes are based off of different myths/historical figures and stuff, I'm gonna try be as diverse as I can with them. So if you have any requests do comment them at any point, if I like it I'll note it down and if I don't then no hard feelings. And I will 100% let you know if I like it or not, there isn't a single comment I've not read. Yes I might not reply to some of them but they're all read. Oh and just because I like a certain idea doesn't necessarily I'll use it since I don't wanna oversaturate this.
Leon Gladius POV:
Valier, that guy. He's pretty cool if I do say so myself, yes he seems a bit depressed from time to time but from what I've heard, he actually speaks now. Supposedly, for the first few months he just sort of wandered around his home, not really talking. But now the guy replies to greetings.
I've wanted to meet the guy for a while, but I didn't really know how to approach him. He was kidnapped and tortured in some foreign land. The Archduchess had told my mother that he never told anyone about what happened over there, hence why she and essentially every servant in that household thinks he went through more than just torture.
But I would have to talk to him later, I had faith he would pass the exams and that we'd be able to talk later.
But right now, I was currently waiting for the order to fight. My opponent was a guy named Artorius Astedalle. Just from looking at him, I knew something.
He was strong. Probably stronger than my current self.
His Mana pool was so vast that I was wondering whether he was really human. Having a Mana Capacity that large couldn't be normal, it dwarfed my own. He was interesting, I had heard that he had a sort of 'Heavenly Restriction', which made it so he could only use Holy Magic.
Holy Magic was hard to manipulate, giving it a stable form was supposedly quite hard and it cost a lot more Mana than attacks with regular elemental Magic's. Different Magic's cost different amounts of Mana, but during our elementary years of learning we mostly learned regular stuff like maths, English, sciences etc.
Learning about Magic in depth was something you could choose to do when you reached high school, since it'd be pointless teaching everyone about Mana since not everyone was a mage.
But I digress, those who had Holy Magic typically became doctors of great renown because of how effective it was at healing. And Holy Magic was basically never used in combat, that was because it just cost too much Mana. The average Mage wouldn't be able to hold out for an entire battle of they used Holy Magic.
But looking at his Mana Capacity, you could easily tell that he could fight using Holy Magic without the drawbacks of it.
I could only sense his Mana Capacity because he wasn't hiding it, if he hid it I wouldn't be able to sense how large it was. I don't know why he isn't hiding it, every Mage does it subconsciously. Perhaps he doesn't know how to? Or is it for intimidation purposes?
"Begin."
Once we were given the order to fight, he wasted no time in rushing in. The spear had a longer reach than the sword, even in a world where people people could vaporize countries with a touch, simple things like reach still applied. When fighting someone who had a range longer than yours closing the distance was key. He would enter my range first, and if I didn't want to be overwhelmed I'd have to strike first.
And so, I performed a thrust, the thrust had no next steps planned after it. It was a thrust that was sent to test the waters so to speak. He blocked and redirected my attack away from his body as soon as his blade met my spear.
And so we began to trade blows, neither of us ever reached the other's body. Each time our blades neared one another, me moved in a weird way, it was as if he didn't really know why he was swinging his sword in that manner. It was as If he was guessing his way through this battle. It was like his body simply knew of how to best wield his sword.
And so, I began to condense a small blast of air in my palm and I drove it into his stomach just as our weapons collided, this meant that he wouldn't be able to defend himself with said sword. The ball burst on impact and shredded his skin, he was sent flying back, and into a wall.
He received some minor cuts and wounds from the attack. He began to heal himself with his Holy Magic. And there he was, completely fine. Holy Magic, it was annoying, Holy Magic's healing was superior to regular healing magic. It was significantly more costly in terms Mana however. But then again, Holy Magic was extremely Mana intensive no matter what you did. But the results would always be satisfactory.
"You want me to get serious? Against him? Why? It's unnecessary?"
Artorius began to mumble some words that I didn't really understand, what the hell was this weirdo talking about?
"I said that out loud didn't I? That's embarrassing, anyways, I just hope he's right about this... But on the off chance he isn't, don't die. I don't want to be a murderer to be honest."
Artorius walked off my attack and dashed towards me, he horizontally sliced at my torso, the force behind his attack was enormous. And I couldn't even follow him either. His attack sent me flying back, I landed on the very furthest wall where a crater formed due to the power behind his attack
(This is the point we reached last chap)
I looked around, due to the sheer force he planted behind his attack, the ground had cracks all over it, the same went for the wall I was slammed into.
I got off the wall and gripped my spear tightly, I hadn't received too much damage from that blow. That was due to the Mana enhancement every close quarters mage used whenever possible working in tandem with my highly durable body.
I couldn't move temporarily as I had 'the wind knocked out of me', as some might say. But I hadn't actually received any significant damage.
I used my spear to help myself stand and I regained my balance.
I then looked at Artorius, he dashed towards me. He was doing the exact same thing as before, so, I placed my spear shaft where he intended to strike me. But then, he placed more strength into his sword and drove it forward.
I disengaged and jumped back into the wall, then I created a burst of wind on my feet to send me to the other end of the hall. In a battle of raw strength I'd win, but something told me to wait and see what he was planning on doing.
I watched as he dropped his sword, and then, a new one materialised. The sword was beautiful, it shone in an iridescent manner. It was magnificent, any warrior would want to marvel at it for hours upon hours. The sword wasn't too extravagant or luxurious looking yet it seemed perfect in a sense, it gave off this weird feeling that I can't really describe.
Shivers went down my spine when I looked at it, perhaps it was out of fear, or perhaps it was excitement.
My body then began to slowly heat up. Not in a metaphorical sense but in a literal one, I literally felt myself burning up. Soon after, I felt something from the depths of my soul telling me to discard my spear. And I did as it commanded of me.
Then, a sort of golden armour slowly began to form over my skin and earrings formed, at the same time Artorius held his sword above his head. His stance left him wide open, yet I didn't attack. However, I knew that closing the distance would mean he'd just release his attack early.
Power emanated from his blade, the entire building began to shake from the amount of power in his attack.
As he charged up his attack, time seemed to flow in slow motion for me as a new spear formed in my hand. The spear was beautifully crafted out of a material I wasn't familiar with, it was truly divine. It was a spear that must have belonged to a God of some sort. And that spear had manifested along with this armour and earrings.
However, as the spear began to manifest the partially formed set of armour and earrings shattered and dematerialised as power gathered In the spear.
A voice told me to call out the spears name, and I for some reason knew it's name.
"Ex-"
"Vasavi..."
A/N: If you've played fgo you'll probably know who the dude is, and yes I know that in the myth of you know who the spear is one time thing. If you're familiar with Indian myths and stuff then you'll know that after being used, the user should die. But imma just not do that because I don't want the bro to die.
