Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - The Imperial Family [2]

Angelica T. Godhart POV:

Fear was an emotion foreign to me, I was talented and I was the heir to The Empire. There wasn't a being in existence who should've been able to make feel fear. But when I looked at that boy's- no, that monster's soul. Fear overtook me, his soul was this... incomprehensible monster.

His soul was pitch black, but what scared me more was the fact that there wasn't a single emotion in him. People always have emotions, that's what makes them people. But, what the hell do I call someone- something who doesn't have a single spec of emotion?

I focused my eyes and looked deeper, and that was when I felt another emotion.

Regret.

When I peered deeper into his soul, someone or something looked back at me. It was this entity... pitch black in colour and it was standing In a world filled with all sorts of weapons. The world's ground was black and the sky was crimson. The entitiy's eyes were also crimson, it had horns coming out of either side of its head. It smiled at me, and started cackling, it then waved at me and then everything went black.

I then found myself looking at the boy, my Eyes Of Truth had forcefully shut down.

"Who... are you?"

I released my pressure and killing intent, that boy was a threat and I couldn't take any chances.

I thought that the boy would try to fight back or release his own pressure, but he simply bowed his head slightly and spoke.

"I am Valier Pendragon, it is an honour to meet you, your highness."

He was noticeably shaking.

'Is he... some sort of weakling? But his soul... it was do dark yet so empty, and at the same it was terrifying, I'll have to have someone research him.'

"Likewise, it's rather interesting meeting someone with the Dark Attribute. I myself have the Light Attribute, so it's really quite fascinating meeting someone who's attribute a polar opposite of my own considering how rare the Light and Dark attribute are. And its even more interesting to see someone who acquired Derivative Magic as soon as they awakened."

Valier Pendragon POV:

'She already knows? Then again, I've not made too much of an effort to hide my attributes. The original plan was to pretend like I was a weakling, but I suppose she'd have found out about my attributes. I wonder if asking her to stay quiet about my attributes will work.'

"Your highness, may I make a request?"

Her eyes widened slightly before they returned to her usual stoic expression. She placed her hand on her chin and contemplated before speaking.

"You may ask for something, but I will treat is as if I'm doing you a favour."

'Tsk, this smart ass brat, she could've just said yes. But I suppose this is fine, I wasn't expecting to have to do nothing in return anyways.'

"I thank you for your grace your highness, my request is a simple one. Keep the fact that I possess three elements a secret, I'm sure that aside from you, very few know of my attributes. I would like you to keep quiet about my elemental affinities. And I'd like it to stay that way, it'd cause far too much trouble having so many people know of the potential that I may or may not possess considering my situation."

The Princess smiled, she crossed her legs one over the other and looked down on me.

"What a simple request, but, I shall do as you have asked. If my informants are correct, then even most of your household servants are not aware of the fact that you can use the Dark or Lightning attribute, they are only aware of your Fire Attribute. With that in mind, I shall keep quiet about your attributes, if anyone asks me about you, I shall tell them that you only possess the fire attribute."

I nodded at her words, I knew her character, so long as I kept quiet she would also keep quiet.

When I noticed that I was free to leave I wordlessly left the hall.

Angelica Godhart POV:

I sat on my throne, I snapped my fingers and released a Mana pulsation that was of a specific frequency. And soon after a man dressed in all black appeared before, he wordlessly knelt before me with his head bowed down.

"Find out everything you can about Valier Pendragon, you may use any means necessary. Report to me before the start of my birthday party, I don't want to be burdened by thoughts of how that boy ended up like that during the party."

***

A few hours later, in the throne room

I was sat on my throne, I had been greeted by fat too many heirs and heiresses, but then agaon, today was when all nobles debuted after all. After talking to one more person, I was informed I had been greeted by the majority of high nobl3s within the country by a butler. I got off my throne and walked over to a corner of the room where a young lady was sat. She had black hair and dark eyes, although no one else noticed this girl was actually a member of The Empire's 'Darkness.' A task force that has existed since the founding of the empire.

She was using Magic and Artifacts to hide herself, even I wouldn't have recognised her if i hadn't been told of her beforehand. I sat down beside her and sipped on some tea that a maid had brought us.and

"So, what have you found out about him?"

The informant took a deep breath before speaking.

"His history... is interesting. He was born to The Archduke and his concubine. And there hasn't been any information recorded on him since. However, we interrogated some maids that had been fired by the Pendragons, and they did some rather disturbing things. They practically abused him in every way they could think of, depriving him of food, water and other such things. They also beat him regularly, apparently, they left with injuries as severe as pierced lungs and torn tendons. One of the maids was a competent mage specialised in healing, so they used her to repeatedly heal and beat him."

My eyes widened slightly, but before I spoke I realised the informant had more to say.

"They... injected him with something... apparently someone offered them a large sum of money to feed and inject him with a certain drug. We were going to interrogate them further, but then all three of them died in the spot. This is just my opinion but I believe that save for two- no, three people, none of us in the Empire's Darkness could come out of something like at that at such a young age with a sane mind."

Without thinking, I released my killing intent, but I almost immediately rescinded it.

'No wonder his soul is so monstrous. Even I wouldn't have been able to come out of something like that with a sane state of mind.'

"Do not investigate him further. I'm no longer curious about him."
