Chapter 20 - Learning

The next day, Clarence went to the lab where he saw his mother working on some things. She was mixing liquids of various colors which brought out a different reaction each time.

Without making any noise, he walked over to a nearby stool and sat down. After nearly ten minutes, his mother turned around to greet him and said,

"You only have introductory knowledge about all the things, but as today I am a little busy with some things, I'll only give you the most helpful books for you right now. If you have any questions, you can ask me when I get free during the breaks."

She then pointed to the corner of a lab where there was already a pile of books lying on the bench. Clarence walked over to the table and saw that there was also quite a lot of equipment placed on the table which he assumed was for him to use.

He opened the books and noticed that the author was his mother herself. After feeling proud for a moment, he started reading them. It was based on craftsmanship and the concepts explained were concise and quite easy to understand.

A few minutes into the book, he was already able to conceptualize a few new ways other than the applications already mentioned in the books in which the concepts can be applied.

Last month when he was in the mountains, he had already exchanged quite a few rank two corpses for the books in the [Knowledge]. Even when he was partying, the books were already lying around on the mattress.

He had tried reading it back then, but it was a little confusing for him as he had just randomly exchanged the books. But now that he was reading the books specifically for beginners like him, handpicked by his mom, he could understand things easily from this book and also incorporate things he previously didn't understand from the books he exchanged.

After reading around for around two hours and blending various other new tricks, he was starting to feel mentally exhausted. He looked around to see that his mom was currently not occupied with anything and was just passing time.

He got up from his seat and approached his mother. When he told her about 'his' ideas, she was surprised. Although it was true she hadn't thought of things from his point of view, it wasn't that she couldn't, it was just that she didn't bother to.

New discoveries keep coming up. The real good surprise would be when he could think of new ways even at a much higher level. If that was so, you'd probably be confused about why she was even surprised.

It was because some of the discoveries he told her gave her some inspiration for a higher project she was working on. Crucial discoveries like these were rare, and ones which could be used at both lower and higher levels were even rarer.

Also, coming up with such stuff when he knew only introductions until two hours ago contributed to her surprise.

She said to him while smiling,

"Let's test your theories. While I am at it, I'll also teach you about how to use this equipment to carry out experiments."

After a while, they were done with the experiments. Some of the theories were either proven wrong or ineffective, while some turned out correct. Some even gave exceptional results.

"Nice one young man."

Sienna praised her child while ruffling his hair. She was proud to have a son like her. She would have loved him the same even if he were not a genius, but who doesn't want their child to be a genius? And when they indeed are, which parent wouldn't be proud?

And Sienna believed that there is no such thing as talentless. A person will always have talent in one field or the other, some might have it in multiple fields sure, but there is no such thing as not being able to do anything. A person can always succeed in one field.

Clarence felt a little proud to have his mother praise him. He smiled at her and said,

"Hehe, I've got your genes mom."

To which Sienna giggled and said,

"Flattery will take you everywhere."

Now that he knew how to experiment with the help of the equipment, he gave one last smile to his mom and went back to studying some more books. Now he could verify his theories himself and surprise his mom with the truly big ones.

Once he seated himself, he mentally called out to the system,

[Welcome back host]

"Can you scan the books and directly transfer the information to my brain? Like how you transfer information related to things I exchange."

[It's possible]

"Alright, transfer all the information related to these books to my head."

[Twelve books detected. Since there is too much information, for the sake of the host's safety, information will be transferred over the period of twenty-two hours minimum.]

"Alright"

Clarence soon felt a slight sting in his brain and a huge wave of information flooded in. After going through the information, which took nearly five minutes, he realised the information was related to the book he was reading.

Reading and understanding just a quarter of the book took him two hours while the system transferred the whole information in a matter of seconds.

Although it would be on a break for my own safety, I guess the next transfer will take place two hours later. I can use that buffer time to experiment with new ways and get used to it.

For the next few minutes, Clarence laid back on a sofa nearby and started going through various ways in which he could improve the applications using the information he had from the books he got from the system.

For the next two hours, he just kept trying to blend the concepts of the two different books.

And to be honest, he really enjoyed doing it. He only stopped when it was almost night and had information about four books transferred.

He then bid goodbye to his mother and went to his own room to sleep.
