Days passed and I had my soldiers train in a few tactics the would be helpful in the days to come.
The siege would only last a day but the aftermath would last much much longer.
I looked at my army and saw the ten groups of fifty I would actually send in they were the best at fighting and each one had a healer.
I had already discussed it with them they would be rescue teams for the imperial soldiers and native residents.
Unless being attacked always help the native residents and make sure to rescue as many imperials as possible especially any with reddish brown hair and named Edward.
The imperial army had taken the weapons we brought and sent the schematics back to the Empire so technically as long as I'm present during the battle I have fulfilled Serothor's obligations.
I already informed the third general that Serothor would mostly be rescue teams and support and that I wouldn't be much help in the siege since I am a defensive strategist.
I was actually serious about being a defensive strategist I had began reading books on military strategy and before I got summoned here my favourite way to play chess was by blocking and countering.
Offensive strategies often focused on using sacrifices and faints while defensive was about minimising sacrifices and countering the enemy.
Finally the day had arrived just behind the front lines I had the soldiers that weren't going into the city set up a tent for the injured I told them to move back to the mine by sunset.
I also told the rescue teams to get out of the city by sunset and make their way back to the mine before the sky goes black.
Their goal in this battle was to minimise casualties not become a casualty themselves and if they stayed until the iron empire and natives 'joined' forces many of them would die.
Finally it was time I didn't know exactly how long it would take but the city should fall in only a few hours.
Having 2 major nations attack at the same time is basically a double death sentence for such a small city.
It reminded me of Serothor and what would happen if we didn't have the empire's backup.
The Imperial army was ready and Serothor's army were just behind the third line while I was under a tarp with the third general, strategists and high ranking military officials.
The horns of battle were blown and so it began two army's attacking the city and eachother.
The destruction even in the first few moments was startling there is no strategy or anything just barbaric, bloody and messy fighting.
That's when the third general spoke.
"Okay so how should we win this?"
Everyone began talking about possible battle strategies but what was confusing is that the battle has already begun.
Suddenly my head started to hurt and I asked a question.
"Isn't it a bit late to talk about strategy? The battle has started shouldn't we be managing the lines and army so as to minimise deaths and maximise the effectiveness of the troops?"
Suddenly most of the people laughed and snickered that's when the third general spoke.
"No? Haha the empires army is strong we can win this without any fancy strategy we are discussing ways at how to handle our victory and how we should secure the city"
That's when information from the book came rushing back to me, the empire has 5 generals the first and second are powerhouse legends.
The fourth is in charge of intelligence and specialist units such as mage squads and knights.
the fifth is a perverted young prodigy in charge of 30% of the empire's main force but the third general is...
Utterly insane, he is in charge of battles and smaller conflicts he uses his soldiers like meat shields and his favourite strategy is throwing more people into battle.
I can't believe I forgot such important information about the psychopath literally right infront of me.
I nodded because it was the only thing I could do and I looked towards the city of fire wondering how Kyle was going.
•••kyle pov
The city was hot its name was appropriate everywhere I looked there was machines and infrastructure utilising fire as a tool.
The native mages also used fire magic which was quite bothersome.
I was incharge of managing rescue efforts the battle had only just begun and yet so many people where already injured.
I also insured the best possible passage from the city to the healing tent Zeth set up.
Honestly if I wasn't ensuring the original residents were also being saved I would have felt immeasurably guilty.
Prince Zeth specifically addressed the issue we are on the invading side but if we weren't here more people would die and even if we weren't here the same thing would happen.
We just had to make sure we were helping as much as possible and for me that meant sending the families I could to the healing tent.
It was still hard though I felt like fainting from heat stroke and I was on an active battlefield so I was stressed and in danger.
Despite this I felt..oddly in my element, directing the rescue teams and making sure we had escape routes.
For the first time in a long time I felt like myself I was in my element.

I couldn't stand the idiots I was surrounded by any longer so I made my way to Serothor's healing tent.
It was surrounded and guarded by the remainder of Serothor's army those who didn't join the rescue teams.
It was just beyond the massive battle going on between the two mega nations and many of Serothor's soldiers were simply ensuring the injured safe passage to the tent.
When I arrived I was greeted by people from the empire and city of fire who were injured or grieving.
It was time to bust out my old skills.
